Abstract

This document enhances the understanding of the Graduate Recital program, 「Cello Sonata in a minor Op. 36」 by E. Grieg and「 Liederkreis Op. 24」 by R. Schumann through research of the composers' lives and musical tendency. It also helps to collaborate affectively between the solo and the accompaniment instrument by analyzing harmonies and structures that are represented through these works. Edvard Grieg(1843-1907) composed his only Cello Sonata in A minor, Op. 36 in 1882 in Bergen, Norway. He dedicated the work to his brother John. The cello sonata is in 3 movements, first and third movement written in sonata form, and the second movement expands two part form into 5 parts. Grieg adopted the Norwegian folk and dance themes into his work, and it is developed with the reoccurrence of themes, variations and key changes. Liederkreis Op. 24 was composed and published in 1840 by Robert Schumann(1810-1856). It is a song cycle for voice and piano and based on nine poems by Heinrich Heine. It is the earliest work of Year of Song which refers to his exclusive devotion to song composition from 1840. Overall, the cycle sings about the anguish of lost love. Both the melody and the accompaniment develop with the emphasis on lyrics, and as the piano accompaniment takes a bigger role, the intro and outro become the bridge to connect all 9 songs.;본 논문은 본인의 석사 과정 졸업 연주 프로그램인 E. Grieg 의 「Cello Sonata in a minor Op.36」(1883)과 R. Schumann 의「Liederkreis Op.24」(1840)에 대하여 알아보기 위하여 그리그와 슈만의 생애와 음악적 경향을 살피고 이 작품들에서 나타난 화성과 구조, 가사에 따른 곡의 이해력을 높여 반주와 독주 악기의 효과적인 연주를 할 수 있도록 살펴보고자 한다. 그리그(Edvard Grieg, 1843-1907)의 「Cello Sonata Op.36」은 1883년 노르웨이의 베르겐에서 완성되었으며, 유일한 첼로 소나타인 이곡은 그의 형 욘 (John Grieg, 1840-1901)에게 헌정되었다. 총 3악장으로 구성되어 있는데 1,3 악장은 소나타 형식을, 2악장은 2부 형식을 5부분으로 확대시킨 형식이다. 노르웨이의 민속음악과 춤곡을 사용하였으며 주제의 반복, 변형, 전조등 첼로와 피아노 두 악기가 동등한 입장에서 선율과 반주부를 이루며, 균형 있게 전개해나간다. 슈만(Robert Schumann, 1810-1856)의 연가곡 「Liederkreis Op.24」는 슈만이 클라라와 결혼하던 1840년, 이른 바 슈만의‘가곡의 해’에 완성되었고, 하이네의 시에 의한 9곡으로 구성되어있다. 이 작품은 슈만의 많은 연가곡 중 최초 작품으로서 이 연가곡을 시작으로 여러 연가곡을 작곡했다. 전체적인 내용으로는 이루어지지 않은 사랑에 대한 젊은이의 심경이 표현되었고, 가사에 맞춰서 선율과 반주 모두 전개되는데, 특히 전주와 후주가 길어지면서 반주의 비중이 노래와 동등해지는 것을 볼 수 있다.
