CNC 조각기를 활용한 옻칠 그릇 디자인 연구

Abstract

본 연구는 기존의 옻칠 목기가 가진 전통적 디자인을 개선하여 현대인의 생활에 어울리는 공예품으로 개발하는데 있어, 옻칠 공예를 계승·발전시킬 수 있는 현대적 디자인 연구와 이에 부합하는 현대적 제작 방법의 제시를 목적으로 하고 있다. 옻칠을 한 목기(木器)는 오랜 전통을 가진 공예품의 하나로서, 우리나라에서는 기원전 3세기에 만들어진 유물의 출토를 통해 긴 역사를 가지고 있음을 알 수 있다. 목기는 일반적으로 나무로 만든 그릇을 의미하며 장식 없이 옻칠을 하여, 조상들의 식생활 전반과 제사 등에 쓰여 왔다. 현대에 이르러 옻칠 나무 그릇은 불가에서 사용하는 발우(鉢盂)나 제기(祭器) 등에서 주로 그 명맥이 이어지고 있음을 볼 수 있다. 옻칠 그릇이 과거에 비해 쓰임새가 줄어든 원인 중에는 옻칠 문화에 대한 무관심과 함께 식문화의 변화에 따른 기능적, 심미적 디자인의 변화가 미약하다는 점을 들 수 있다. 연구자는 보존성과 안전성이 뛰어난 옻칠을 한 현대적 디자인의 나무 그릇을 제작하여 옻칠 공예를 현대화, 대중화하고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 한국과 서양의 식기(食器)를 비교하고 한국 식문화에 따른 식기의 변화를 분석하였으며, 재료가 되는 알맞은 나무의 수종을 연구, 수집한 후 나뭇결을 살리는 옻칠 기법을 적용하였다. 디자인적인 측면에서는, 빠르게 변화하는 과학과 산업의 발전 속에서 편안함과 친근함을 주는 자연의 형태와 원리를 응용한 유기적인 형상으로 디자인하여 환경 친화적이며 현대 식문화에 맞는 옻칠 나무 그릇을 연구하였다. 그릇을 만드는 방법에 있어서는 전통적인 목선반(木旋盤)의 사용에서 벗어나, 현대적인 CNC (computerized numerical control) 조각기와 3D (three dimentions) 프로그램을 사용하여 일반적인 반구(半球)형태에서 벗어난 다양한 유기적 형태와 크기를 적용한 독창적이고 조형적인 풀-세트(full-set) 디자인으로 개발하였다. 이와 같은 첨단 장비를 통해 전통적인 옻칠 나무 그릇을 현대적인 방법으로 제작함으로써 재래식 생산 방식을 개선하고, 현대인의 취향을 고려한 다품종 소량 생산으로 획일적인 공장화와 차별된 고품격 핸드 메이드(hand-made) 수제품을 제작하였다. 현대적인 디자인과 생산방식으로 전통 옻칠 공예를 계승 발전시킨 점에서 본 연구의 의의가 있다고 본다. 또한 본 연구를 통하여 실용적이면서 현대 식문화의 품격을 높일 수 있는 옻칠 그릇의 저변 확대를 추구하고자 한다.;The purpose of this study is to present contemporary design research that can succeed and develop lacquer craft and develop contemporary production method in order to improve the traditional design of traditional lacquer wooden craft to suit modern living have. The wooden lacquer ware is one of the long-established artifacts. It can be seen that Korea has a long history through the excavation of artifacts made in the 3rd century BCE. Wooden stands are generally made of wood, and they have been used for lacquering without decorations, for the whole diet of the ancestors, and for sacrifices. In modern times, it can be seen that lacquered wooden bowls are mainly used in Buddhism and memorial ceremony, which are used in vain. One of the reasons why lacquer ware is less useful than in the past is that it is indifferent to the lacquer culture and the functional and aesthetic design changes due to changes in the food culture are weak. The researchers tried to modernize and popularize the lacquer craft by making a wooden bowl of contemporary design with lacquer with excellent preservation and safety. To do this, we analyzed the change of tableware according to the Korean food culture and compared the lacquer technique of the wood after researching and collecting the proper tree species as the material. In terms of design, we have studied lacquered wooden bowls for environmentally friendly and modern food culture by designing organic shapes that apply the form and nature of nature that gives comfort and friendliness in the rapidly changing science and industry. As for the method of making the bowl, the use of modern CNC (computerized numerical control) engraving machine and 3D (three dimentions) program is used to get out of the traditional hemispherical shape and to get a variety of organic shapes and sizes It was developed as a unique and formative full-set design concept. Through such advanced equipments, traditional lacquered wooden bowls can be produced in a modern way to improve the conventional production methods. In addition, it is possible to produce a small quantity of various kinds considering the tastes of modern people, and it is possible to produce a high quality hand-made. This study has significance in that it has developed and succeeded traditional lacquer craft with modern design and production method. Through this study, we intend to expand the base of lacquer ware which can enhance the elegance of modern culture.
