아프리카 은데벨레(Africa Ndebele)족의 벽화 문양을 응용한 패션 일러스트레이션 연구

Abstract

현대인들은 과학과 기술의 발달로 물질적 풍요로움과 편리함을 제공받았다. 반면, 인간은 점차 인간의 감성이나 자연보다 과학과 기술의 발전을 더 중요시하고, 자연을 이용의 대상으로만 생각했다. 이로 인해, 자연이 파괴되며, 인간성 또한 상실되며, 감성이 메말라갔다. 이에 최근 들어 자연으로의 회귀와 인간성 회복에 대한 관심이 대두되었다. 이러한 현상은 각 디자인 분야, 회화 및 건축 등 예술 전반에 다양한 영향을 끼쳤다. 오늘날의 패션 일러스트레이션은 패션의 정보 전달의 기능 뿐만 아니라, 새로운 재료 및 기법을 통한 표현 양식과 함께 예술적 기능을 가진 하나의 독립된 예술로 점차 그 영역을 넓혀가고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 아프리카 은데벨레족의 벽화에 나타난 문양을 모티브로 하여 고무를 조각 및 채색하여 작품으로 표현하였다. 따라서 독창적이며 창의적인 예술적 가치를 지닌 패션 일러스트레이션을 구축하며, 그 표현 방법을 확장하였다. 연구 내용 및 방법으로는 문헌과 전문서적을 통하여 아프리카 은데벨레족의 역사와 문화를 조사하였다. 또한 아프리카 은데벨레족의 벽화와 그 문양에 대하여 조사 및 연구하며, 선과 형, 색채를 중심으로 조형적 특성을 연구하였다. 다음으로는, 단행본이 나 출판물 등을 통한 전문 서적과 잡지, 또는 인터넷 검색 자료를 이용하여 이들 아프리카 은데벨레족의 문양을 응용한 현대 디자인의 사례들을 조사하였다. 고무판 조각채색기법에 관한 이론적 배경으로는 먼저 고무판 조각채색기법의 개념 및 정의를 연구하였다. 또한 고무의 재료적 특성과 고무를 이용한 사례를 단행본과 전문서적을 통하여 조사하였다. 그리고, 기법에 대한 연구를 하며, 마지막으로 고무판 조각채색기법의 조형적 특성을 연구하였다. 위의 이론적 배경을 바탕으로 은데벨레족 문양의 조형적 특성과 아프리카의 감성을 지닌 인체 및 포즈와 패션 요소를 조화롭게 도입하여 작품 10점을 제작하였다. 작품 제작에 있어서는, 고무를 사용하고 조각과 채색을 혼용하였다. 본 연구의 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 아프리카 은데벨레족의 벽화 문양은 채도가 높으며 밝고 짙은 다양한 색으로 이루어져 있다. 이들 색은 순색의 성격이 강하며, 선명하고 분명하다. 이에 그들만의 강렬한 전통적 색채는 장식성을 극대화시킬 수 있었다. 둘째, 아프리카 은데벨레족의 문양에 나타난 검은 외곽선은 고무판을 조각하는 작업을 통하여 고무판의 본래 색인 검은색 선을 표현하기에 적합하였다. 그리고, 다양한 조각도를 이용하여 다채로운 선의 효과가 나타났다. 또한, 그 평면에 채색을 하여 작품의 표현 가능성을 확대하였다. 셋째, 고무판 조각채색기법은 디테일 표현에 효과적이며, 본인이 원하는대로 자유롭게 시각적 질감 표현을 하는 것이 가능하였으며, 인류 최초 예술인 암각화의 조형적 특성을 현대적 재료인 고무에 반영하여 현대 미술로의 재현을 시도하였다. 또한, 아프리카 은데벨레족의 벽화의 이미지는 작품으로서의 주제 표현을 하는 데 적합하였다. 넷째, 고무판의 판재 자체를 조각하고 그 위에 채색을 함으로서 새로운 시도와 이를 통한 기법으로 표현 방법의 영역 확대를 시도하였다. 이는 남과 다른 본인만의 독특한 개성으로 예술적 가치를 지닌다. 본 연구를 통해 독특한 재료의 사용과 기법의 혼합으로 표현 방법을 확장하고, 예술성과 장식성을 높일 수 있었다. 그리고, 아프리카 은데벨레족의 독창적이면서도 모던한 문양을 도입함으로써, 패션 일러스트레이션의 문양 표현의 다양한 가능성을 확대시켰다. 또한, 이와 같은 새로운 표현 기법을 개발함에 있어 실험 정신과 자신만의 독특한 개성으로 표현 영역의 확대를 시도하여 예술적 가치를 높일 수 있도록 해 나가야 할 것이다.;Contemporary humans have been provided material affluence and convenience due to development of science and technology. On the other hand, humans gradually have put the development before human sensitivity or nature and have regarded nature as the thing to use. This resulted destruction of nature, loss of humanity, shrunken sensibility. Therefore humans paid a keen attention to nature and restorations of humanity. This phenomenon variously influenced the entire art including each design sector, painting, and architecture. Fashion illustration of today is not only performing function of information delivery but also gradually expanding its domain, accompanied with representation styles using new materials and techniques, as independent art with artistic function. Therefore this research, adopting a pattern on murals of Ndebele in Africa as a motif, demonstrated rubber as art work by carving and coloring. By doing so, the research established a fashion illustration with artistic value that is original and creative and expanded its representation methods. As for research contents and method, history and culture of Ndebele were investigated through literature and specialty publication. In addition, the research looked into formative characteristics, particularly lines and forms as well as color, by exploring and studying Ndebele mural art and its pattern. Then the research searched modern design cases that applied the Ndebele patterns by literature review and online searching. In terms of theoretical background for techniques of rubber plate carving and coloring, the research firstly investigated concept and definition of the techniques. Also it found material attributes and cases that used rubber through books and specialty publication. In addition, the research studied the techniques, and for last explored its material attributes Based on the theoretical background above, the research produced 10 piece of art work by harmoniously adapting formative characteristic of the pattern, human body and pose, which possess material attributes of the Ndebele pattern as well as African sensibility, and fashion factors. In the production, the material, rubber, was both carved and colored. Conclusions are followings: At first, the Ndebele mural pattern has a high chroma and consists of various color of bright and deep. The colors tend to be unmixed ones and are vivid and clear. Therefore traditional loud colors of their own could maximize decoration. At second, black outline of the pattern was suitable to express the genuine color of rubber plate, black, by carving. In addition, different gravers brought various line effects. Furthermore, expression potential was enhanced by coloring on surface. At third, the technique is effective in representing details, enables one to express visual texture as he wants, and attempted to reproduce rock painting, the earliest form of human art, as modern art by reflecting its formative characteristics on rubber, a modern material. Furthermore images of the murals were appropriate for portraying a theme as an art piece. At last, the research made an attempt to expand the domain of representation style by carving board of rubber plate itself and coloring on the surface. This carries a marked individuality, different from others. This research found that factors including formative shape and loud colors in the Ndebele pattern could continue to be applied in versatile ways to many areas of art. Also, in developing new representation technique such as this one, a researcher needs to enhance artistic value by attempting to enlarge representation domain with experimental mind and his own unique individuality.
