Abstract
Laser pulse irradiation of a deaerated aqueous solution containing the solid state lithium ion-encapsulated fullerene resulted in the formation of highly dispersed nano-aggregates (Li+@C-60)(n). Photo-irradiation of an O-2-saturated D2O solution containing (Li+@C-60)(n) gave singlet oxygen with 55% quantum yield, leading to efficient double-stranded DNA cleavage.
