애니메이션 <겨울왕국>의 음악적 특징연구

Abstract

<Frozen, 2013> is a Disney animation which adapted a musical format by dramatizing the original fairy tale “The Queen of Snow” written by Hans Christian Andersen. Disney with the introduction of stereoscopic graphics has focused on modern themed animation, but it has once again shown its traditional power through <Frozen> by reviving its musical format and fairy tale elements. The animation won Academy and Golden Globe Awards along with many other Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song awards proving its cinematic quality. Thus, the purpose of the following thesis lies in understanding the musical features which performs as a core element in overall completeness of <Frozen> and maximization of its musical effect. For means of study, this paper for its theoretical background researches the significance behind Disney’s musical format and the production process of <Frozen> with the composers’ musical background and major works. On such basis, the musical features are analyzed according to developing context of the animation. The result of the study shows that the animation’s story is lead by the use of musical format. Repeating melodies and lyrics of “Let It Go”, main song of <Frozen> and theme song of Elsa, throughout the movie expresses main character’s emotion. In addition, to illustrate the Northern European background of the animation, musical mode of adapting folklore techniques and instruments was used. The research of this thesis on the analysis of the musical features of <Frozen> in association with its animation images and story can be considered meaningful since it comprehends correlation of image and music which is the key element in optimizing the musical effect and completing the cinematic quality of <Frozen>.;<겨울왕국(Frozen, 2013)>은 한스 안데르센의 동화 『눈의 여왕』을 각색하여 뮤지컬 형식을 접목시킨 디즈니 애니메이션이다. 입체적 그래픽스 제작을 시작하며 현대적인 소재를 가진 애니메이션을 제작하던 디즈니가 다시한번 뮤지컬 형식과 동화의 소재를 부활시켜 전통의 힘을 보여주었고, 아카데미상과 골든글로브상 이외에 다수 애니메이션상과 주제가상을 받아 작품성 또한 인정받았다. 이에 본 논문은 <겨울왕국>의 작품 완성도 및 음악적 효과를 극대화시킨 핵심 요소인 음악적 특징이 무엇인지 알아보는 것이 주된 목적이다. 연구의 방법으로는 먼저 이론적 배경을 확립하기 위해, 디즈니 애니메이션 작품에 나타난 뮤지컬 형식의 의의, <겨울왕국>의 제작과정 및 작곡가의 음악적 배경과 주요 활동에 대하여 조사하였고, 이를 바탕으로 줄거리 전개에 따라 음악적 특징을 연구 하였다. 연구 결과, 뮤지컬 형식을 사용하여 노래로 줄거리를 이끌고 있으며 <겨울왕국>의 주제가이자 엘사의 테마곡인 “다 잊어(Let It Go)”의 멜로디와 가사가 영화 전반에 걸쳐 반복됨으로써 주인공의 심리를 표현하고 있다. 또한 북유럽 풍의 애니메이션 배경을 설명하는 요소로 민속기법과 민속악기가 사용된 음악적 양식이 사용됨을 알 수 있었다. 본 논문에서 수행한 <겨울왕국>의 음악적 특징을 영상 및 스토리와 연계한 분석 연구는 <겨울왕국>의 작품 완성도 및 음악적 효과를 극대화시킨 핵심적 요소인 음악과 영상의 상관관계를 알아본 연구라는 점에서 그 의미가 크다 할 수 있다.
