Analysis of Korean electronic manufacturing firm's delisting risk using competing risk survival analysis

Abstract

Korean electronic manufacturing firm's delisting type from 2009 to 2014 can be classified into two major types, involuntary delisting and voluntary delisting. To model multiple causes of delisting, we use competing risk survival analysis and investigate the relevant business environmental factors for each type of causes. In this paper, we compare the results of the cause-specific hazard model approach and subdistribution model approach proposed by Fine and Gray (1999). Furthermore, to avoid the divergence of the parameter estimates, we apply the Firth's bias correction for both competing risk model approaches and get stable results.;2009년부터 2014년까지 우리나라 전자제조기업들의 상장폐지의 유형은 크게 비자발적 폐지와 자발적 폐지로 나눌 수 있다. 여러 개의 원인을 허용하는 생존분석 방법 가운데 경쟁위험 생존분석을 이용하여 자발적 상장폐지와 비자발적 상장폐지에 영향을 주는 기업 환경 요인이 무엇인지 알아본다. 특히, 경쟁위험 모형에서 많이 사용되는 Cause-specific hazard 모형과 Fine and Gray (1999)의 subdistribution 모형을 사용하여 그 결과들을 비교해본다. 또한, 일반적으로 사용되는 모수 추정 방법인 최대부분가능도 추정 방법을 사용할 경우 일부 계수 추정치가 수렴하지 않고 발산하는 경우가 있어 Firth’s bias correction을 이용하여 보정된 계수 추정치를 사용하고 그 의미를 고찰하였다.
