찰나에 나타난 순간 이미지

Abstract

시간은 우리가 살아가는 동안 자연스럽게 느낄 수 있는 흐름이다. 시계를 매개로 시간을 쉽게 세어가면서 ‘순간’을 짧은 단위로 인지하기도 하며 인간은 정해놓은 방식에서 시간을 정의한다. 그 속에서 무한한 가능성을 가지고 있는 잠재적인 시간이 ‘순간’임을 인식하면서부터 본인은 그 안의 이미지를 통해 ‘순간의 의미’를 논의하고자 한다. 이는 찰나가 곧바로 과거가 된다고 믿고 있던 상식에 대한 문제의식에서 비롯되었다. 본 논문에서 찰나는 인간이 느낄 수 없는 짧은 시간이며 본인에게 ‘순간 이미지’가 나타나는 시간이다. 눈이 이동하는 사이에 보였던 형상들의 존재, 그리고 그에 따른 ‘순간’이라는 시간은 쉽게 인지할 수 없는 범위에 놓여 있다. 인간의 행동방식 중 지각에서 시작하여 의식에 이르기까지 본인은 순간의 이미지를 현실의 대상에서 찾고자 한다. 이는 짧은 시간 안에서 벌어진 형상들의 발단이 현존의 가치를 가진다는 것을 의미한다. 그 형상은 이미 현실 안에 있던 대상들이기 때문이다. 또한, 그 범위가 확장되면서 순간은 시계의 단위로 측정할 수 없는 범위 안에 존재하며 그 자체로서 현재의 의미를 가질 수 있다. 그리하여 인간이 느낄 수 없는 한계에서 순간의 형태가 실증적으로 ‘존재함’을 분석하기 위한 과학적 이론은 본인의 ‘순간 이미지’를 상상할 수 있도록 한다. 본인은 ‘시간이란 무엇인가’에 대해 질문하면서 눈에 보이지 않는 것을 예술을 통해 표현하여 순간의 본질을 찾고자 한다. 따라서 기존에 알고 있던 시간 개념과 다른, 인지하지 못하는 시간을 본인의 회화를 통해 보여준다. 이는 곧 셀 수 있는 시간, 혹은 기록할 수 있는 시간의 한계를 넘는 ‘무한한 시간’에 관한 탐구이며, 잡힐 것 같지만 곧바로 사라져 버리는 순간의 의미를 찾는 과정이다. 그러므로 본인은 유한한 긴 시간 속에서 무한성을 발견하고, 수평적으로 흘러가는 시간을 수직적인 시간으로 바라봄으로써 순간의 단면들을 재현하여 ‘순간의 현존성’의 의미를 찾고자 한다. 시간은 그저 흘러 잠시 존재할 뿐 언제나 목적과 결과를 위해 흐르는 것이 아니다. 그럼에도 특정의 순간을 캔버스라는 공간에서 이미지화할 수 있는 가능성을 모색한다. 이는 본인이 포착하는 순간의 의미, 즉 순간의 현존성 찾는 과정을 설명하는 것이다. 순간 이미지를 회화로 구현하는 과정에서 순간의 빠른 속성과 그때의 이미지의 관계를 ‘원리’를 통해 나타내고자 하였다. 이는 아인슈타인의 ‘상대성 원리’에서 설명하는 세계의 존재방식들과 유사한 형태를 취하게 된다. 또한 그 순간이 ‘현존’하는 이유에 대해 논하는 결정적 근거이기도 하며 작업에 나타나는 형상의 주요한 원리가 된다. 본 논문에서 고찰하는 시간의 개념은 흐르지만 그 속의 순간은 정지된 형상을 통해 발견되어 역설적 의미를 바라보게 한다. 빠른 속도 안에서 시간은 오히려 정지되고 그것이 바로 순간이며, 이러한 원리의 구현이 본인의 회화작업임을 밝힌다.;Time is a flow we can feel naturally for the rest of our life. While counting time easily with a clock as a medium, humans sometimes recognize a ‘moment’ as a short unit, defining time through the method they set. From the minute of beginning to perceive the potential time having the infinite possibilities as ‘a moment’ in the defined time, this person is intending to discuss ‘the meaning of a moment’ through the image therein. This originated from a critical mind about a common sense supporting that a moment immediately turns into the past. The existence of shapes which were seen during eye movement, and its consequential time “a moment” are placed in the scope that isn’t easily recognizable. Starting from a human’s behavior pattern “perception” until consciousness, this person intends to find the image of a moment from the object of reality. This means the source of shapes arising in a brief time has the extant value. It’s because the shapes are objects which already existed in reality. Also, with the scope extended, the time “a moment” exists within the scope that cannot be measured through the unit of a clock, and a moment itself can have the meaning of the present. Accordingly, the scientific theory for analyzing the ‘existence’ of a moment empirically in the limit where a human cannot feel makes it possible to imagine this person’s image of a moment. I start by asking a question "What is time?" and thereby attempt to find the essence of a moment by bringing through art what cannot be seen to light. My paintings reflect a concept of time that is different from the conventional concept of time and is hardly conceived. It could be said that my attempt is an exploration of "time with no limit" going beyond the limit of the countable or recordable time. My work is also a process to find the meaning of an instant which always instantly vanishes rendering our efforts to grab it futile. I look for the limitlessness in this limited frame of time, and I look at this horizontal passing of time through a lens of vertical time. As a result, I get to recreate the aspects of an instant, which may help find the meaning of the presentness of the instant. Time simply runs, not for any particular purposes or results. Despite the fact, however, I search for the possibility to represent a specific instant on my canvas, because all this explains the process of how I capture and define the meaning of an instant, i.e., the presentness of an instant. In the process of embodying the image of a moment onto the painting, this person intended to represent the relationship between the rapid attribute of a moment and the then image through ‘a principle.’ This comes to assume the form similar to the existence styles of the world explained in Einstein’s ‘Theory of Relativity.’ In addition, the moment is a decisive ground for discussing the reason for ‘being extant’, and becomes a major principle of the shapes appearing in work. This paper-considered concept of time flows, but the moment inherent in time is discovered through its stopped shape, which makes it possible to see through the paradoxical meaning. The time is rather stalled in high speed, and that is the very moment; hereupon, this person makes it clear that the embodiment of such a principle is the purpose of this person’s painting work.
