The Development of NGO in China

Abstract

China has been experiencing rapid growth in the number of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that occupy civil society. The development of NGOs in China can be an effective way of promoting the process of civil society (gong min she hui) and harmonious society (he xie she hui). However, under the authoritarian political structure, lack of autonomy and effectiveness of NGOs in China are the main obstacles. This paper aims to help NGOs in China to improve the self-capacity building and then facilitate the effectiveness. The empirical research will examine the perception and awareness of Chinese public towards NGOs and provide implications to increase the public support and participation for NGOs by questionnaire survey and quantitative analysis method. Its finding reveals interesting age and gender difference, and factors to influence the intention to work, donate and do volunteer for NGO. Keyword: NGO, Civil Society, China, Perception, Public Participation;중국의 비정부기구의 수는 줄곧 빠르게 성장하였다. 비정부기구의 발전은 중국의 시민사회를 발전시키고 조화적인 사회를 건설 하는데 효과적인 방법을 제시한다. 중국 일당독재의 체제하에, 비정부기구는 자주성이 낮고 효력을 발휘 함에 있어 많은 제한을 받는다. 본 논문은 중국의 비정부기구의 자주성을 강화하고 더 큰 효력을 발휘하는데 관한 건의를 제시하였다. 연구에서 설문지를 배포하고 양적 연구 방법으로 중국시민이 비정부기구에 대한 인식 정도를 분석하였고 시민사회가 비정부기구에 대한 지지와 참여를 유도할수 있는 방법을 제시하였다. 통계 분석 결과에서 나이와 성별뿐만 아니라 기타 요소도 비정부기구에서 취업하거나 봉사활동, 돈을 기부하는 의도에 영향을 주는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 키워드: 비정부조직, 시민사화, 중국, 인식, 공중참여
