한국 떡살문양의 기하문을 응용한 현대 패션디자인 연구

Abstract

어느 민족이나 나라든 고유문화가 있으며 이를 뿌리로 조상의 지혜와 얼, 멋, 문화 등을 계승하고 민족적 유대와 정서를 이루며 살아간다. 하지만 오늘날 우리는 급속한 산업화와 근대화의 가속으로 우리 전통문화의 가치를 잊고 살아왔다. 또한 서양의 문화를 급격하게 유입하여 삶과 라이프스타일이 서양화되었다. 이렇게 볼 때 패션디자인분야도 조건 없이 서양문화를 지향하기 보다는 우리 전통문화의 미와 조형성을 분석하고 적용하여 한국적인 주체의식과 가치창조의 현대적 디자인으로 재해석할 필요성이 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 한국의 전통예술양식인 떡살문양의 조형적 요소와 원리를 알아보고 조형적 특성을 도출하여 전통적인 부분을 현대적 감각으로 재해석해 적용함으로써 차별화된 현대 패션디자인을 제시함에 목적이 있다. 또한 전통적 문양을 컷팅 & 폴딩 기법에 의해 전개함으로써 전통과 현대, 동·서양의 조합을 현대적 감각으로 이끌어 내는데 그 의의가 있다. 본 연구의 방법 및 내용으로는 한국 전통무늬인 떡살문양의 개념과 정의, 종류와 특징 등을 살펴보기 위해 관련된 단행본, 학위 논문 및 정기 간행물 등을 통한 문헌조사를 실행하였고, 이를 통해 기하문의 조형적 특성을 분석하고 정리하였다. 또한 인터넷, 패션 관련 사이트, 패션 컬렉션 등을 조사하여 패션에 있어 떡살문양의 표현방법 관찰과 컷팅 & 폴딩 기법의 사례조사를 통해 실증적 연구 방법을 취하였다. 작품제작의 방법은 첫째, 기하문을 컷팅 & 폴딩 기법과 조화시킬 수 있도록 모티프를 재구성하여 그 조형미를 최대한 이용할 수 있도록 작품연구를 진행하였다. 둘째, 모티프와 기법, 스타일에 효과적인 표현을 할 수 있고, 한국적이면서도 현대적 감각을 줄 수 있는 색채와 소재를 조사하여 적용하였다. 셋째, 작품 스타일의 경우 문양 자체의 조형미를 효과적으로 표현하기 위해 실루엣 자체의 조형미는 최대한 절제하며 밑단으로 갈수록 부피감이 풍성한 A라인 실루엣으로 제작하였다. 이와 같은 연구의 방법과 내용을 통하여 떡살문양의 기하문을 응용한 다양한 조형적 패션디자인을 개발해 코트 1점, 베스트 1점, 원피스 5점, 팬츠 2점 등 총 6벌로 전개하여 작품을 제작하였다. 본 연구를 통해 얻은 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 떡살문양의 기하문은 선, 형 등의 조형요소와 통일, 반복, 리듬, 균형, 비례, 조화, 대칭 등의 조형원리와의 조합으로 다른 문양에 비해 다양하고 손쉽게 응용될 수 있어 패션디자인에 활용 가능성이 큼을 알 수 있었다. 둘째, 컷팅 & 폴딩 기법을 패션디자인에 적용하기 위해서는 소재에 합포와 바이어스 재단을 실행해야하며 이를 통해 올풀림이 없고 형태유지성이 우수함을 알 수 있었다. 셋째, 떡살문양에 대한 컷팅 & 폴딩 기법의 적용은 단순히 1차원적인 평면에 문양을 표현하는 것을 넘어 표면 조형에 있어서 요철감, 볼률감, 투과성, 입체감 등 다양한 표현이 가능하며 원하는 부분에 색채추가가 가능함을 알 수 있었다. 넷째, 전체적인 작품을 A라인, H라인의 기본 실루엣으로 전개함으로써 모티프의 장식효과가 돋보일 수 있었다. 이와 같이 한국 떡살문양의 다양성, 기법과 소재, 기법에 용이한 모티프의 새로운 개발 등이 조화를 이룰 때 이 연구에 있어 더 무한한 가능성과 디자인이 도출될 수 있을 것으로 보인다. 또한 본 연구가 떡살의 전통공예의 맥을 직접적으로 이을 수는 없겠지만 연결해주는 교량의 역할이 되고자 하는 바람이며 차후 후학의 연구에서도 이를 응용한 디자인이 다양한 방법으로 제안되길 바란다.;Every ethnic group or country has its own unique culture, and based on it, people inherit their ancestors' wisdom, spirit, beauty, and culture, and also build up ethnic ties and national emotion. Because of the rapid industrialization and accelerated modernization, today, we have forgotten the value of our traditional culture. Also, after rapidly introducing Western culture, our life and lifestyle have been westernized. Thus, the fashion design area also needs to reinterpret the beauty and formativeness of our traditional culture based on our modern design of national identity and value creation, rather than thoughtlessly aiming for Western culture. Therefore, the objective of this study is to suggest differentiated modern fashion design by understanding the formative elements/principles of tteoksal pattern, a Korean traditional art style, drawing its formative characteristics and then reinterpreting/applying its traditional part into modern style. Also, the significance of this study is to apply the combination between tradition & modernity, and the East & West in modern style, by developing the traditional pattern based on cutting & folding techniques. In order to examine the concept, definition, type, and characteristics of tteoksal pattern, a Korean traditional pattern, the literature research was conducted through its relevant books, theses, and regular publication to analyze/summarize the formative characteristics of geometric patterns. Also, researching internet, fashion-relevant sites, and fashion collection, the empirical study method was conducted through the observation of expression method of tteoksal pattern and case study of cutting & folding techniques. First, recomposing the motif to harmonize the geometric pattern with cutting & folding techniques, a study on works was conducted to make the best use of its formative beauty. Second, the colors and materials that could effectively express the motif, technique, and style based on Korean and modern sense, were studied/applied. Third, the work was produced in A-line silhouette with its bulky tail-edge and moderated formative beauty of the silhouette, to effectively express the formative beauty of the pattern itself. Developing various formative fashion designs applying the geometric pattern of tteoksal pattern through the contents and methods of this study, total six pieces of clothing including one coat, one vest, five dresses, and two pants were produced. The conclusions of this study are like below. First, the geometric pattern of tteoksal pattern can be easily and variously applied owing to its combination between the formative elements like line and shape, and the formative principles like unity, repetition, balance, proportion, harmony, and symmetry compared to other patterns, so that it shows the huge possibility of its application to fashion design. Second, in order to apply the cutting & folding techniques to fashion design, the unity and bias cutting should be applied to materials, so that it can excellently maintain its original shape with no ladders. Third, the application of cutting & folding techniques to tteoksal pattern can possibly show various expressions like unevenness, volume, penetrability, and 3D effect and also add colors to desired parts, on top of simply expressing patterns on the one-dimensional surface. Fourth, based on A & H lines of basic silhouette, the overall work showed the decorative effect of its motif. When the development of new motif easier for the diversity, material, and technique of Korean tteoksal pattern is harmonized, more infinite possibility and design could be drawn. Even though this study cannot directly carry on the legacy of the traditional crafts based on tteoksal pattern, it is hopefully expected to play a role as a bridge, and also to see more various designs and methods applying it in the future.
