한글을 이용한 중학교 역사 문화사 수업방안 연구

Abstract

국사에서 문화사는 당대 독창적이고 뛰어난 문화를 서술하고 이를 가르치는데 중점을 두고 있었다. 역사교육에서 문화사의 중심이 찬란하고 우수한 우리민족의 문화의 서술과 그것을 교육하는데 있었기 때문이다. 그러나 문화는 인간이 환경에 적응하고 사회화하는 과정에서 만들어가는 것으로 최고·최초 같이 다른 문화와 비교를 통해 가치를 인정받는 것이 아니다. 또한 정체성을 인식하는 바탕이 되는 문화의 특성으로 민족 정체성의 바탕이 되는 민족문화는 민족 구성원이 공유하는 문화를 만들어가는 과정에서 만들어진다. 결국 문화의 독창성과 가치는 역사적으로 문화가 만들어지는 과정을 이해하고 그것을 만들어온 사람과 사회의 인식을 기반을 한다고 볼 수 있다. 본고에서는 이러한 인식과 중학교 <역사>교육과정에서 제시하는 ‘인간의 삶에 이해를 기초로 다른 문화와 전통을 존중하는 태도를 기룰 수 있게 한다.’는 목표를 염두에 두고 수업을 구성하였다. 다른 문화와 전통에 대한 존중은 문화의 다양성에 대한 인식에서 시작된다. 그래서 우리가 만들어낸 결과물인 것처럼 생각될 수 있는 민족문화에 의문을 제기하고 역사 속에서 문화를 만드는 교류와 사회·사람을 관찰하여 문화 일반에 대한 이해를 추구하였다. 이를 위한 문화사 수업의 소재로 한글을 선택하였다. 한글은 조선전기 민족문화 서술의 시작으로 우리문화의 아이콘처럼 여겨지고 있다. 그러나 한글이 역사 속에서 가지는 문화적 의의는 ‘우수한 우리문화’라는 피상적 인식에 그치고 있다. 한글은 분명 의도를 가지고 만들어진 문화로 우리 역사에 등장한다. 하지만 한글을 시대와 연결해 역사적 맥락을 파악하면 탄생과 발전에 다양한 요소가 작용함을 볼 수 있다. 첫째, 한글에는 당시 언어생활의 모순을 해결하기 위한 사회적 필요가 반영되었다. 둘째, 다른 문화와 교류에서 받은 정보와 연구, 우리말 사용의 전통이 반영되었다. 마지막으로 만들어진 글자인 한글이 사용하는 사람과 사회적 요구에 따라 변화하는 모습은 문화의 변용을 보여준다. 이런 한글을 민족문화로 정의내린 서술은 그 속에 담긴 역사성과 인간을 제외하고 문화의 이해를 어렵게 한다. 본 연구는 한글의 다양한 모습을 통해 문화로써 한글을 이해하는 기회를 제공하고자 하였고 계기수업의 형태로 구성하였다.;Cultural history in Korean history textbooks used to focus on describing creativeness and excellence of Korean culture at the time and teaching those. It was because the emphasis of cultural history in history education lied upon describing and educating Korean nation’s splendid culture. However, since culture is established throughout the process of humans’ adaptation to their surroundings as well as their socialization, its value is not recognized through comparison with other cultures like the terms, the best or the first. Also as a characteristic of cultures which is the basis of identity recognition, national culture which is the basis of national identity is established throughout the process of making culture shared by members of the nation. Thus, the value and originality of culture can be comprehended throughout understanding the historical process of culture’s establishment along with recognizing the people and the society that have been building it. Upon such consciousness, this study organized instructions in consideration of the goal, ‘to cultivate attitude to respect different cultures and traditions on the basis of understanding life of humans’, suggested in the educational process of <History> for middle school students. The objectives were to question the national culture which can be often considered as the output of Korean culture, as well as to understand general culture throughout examining people and societies along with the interchange between each other that establish cultures in the history. Hangeul was selected as a research subject in order to accomplish the objectives above. Hangeul has been regarded as an icon of Korean culture that began with describing the national culture in early days of the Joseon Dynasty. However, general perception on the cultural significance in Hangeul throughout history in the sense that it is ‘excellent Korean culture’, is merely superficial. Hanguel is a culture invented with a purpose that appears in Korean history. However, after grasping the historical context of Hangeul in connection with the period, it will be evident that various factors affected its creation. First, Hangeul reflected the social need in order to resolve the contradiction in practice of language at the time. Second, it reflected the information and the research gained from exchange with other cultures, along with the tradition in practicing Korean language. Last, the aspect of the invented characters, Hangeul changing according to people who use it and the social needs, shows acculturation. The description that defines Hangeul as national culture, excludes humans and the nature of history in it, and makes it difficult to understand culture. This study intended to provide an opportunity to grasp various aspects of Hangeul and its cultural characteristics, and organized instructions in a form of moment lesson.
