원의 상징성을 통한 유리구슬 이미지표현

Abstract

원의 형태로 존재하는 자연 속의 이슬은 맑고 투명한 존재로 주변으로부터 반사되는 빛을 투영하여 다채로운 빛을 나타내는 신비로운 느낌을 주는 소재로써 본 연구자에게 인식되었다. 이러한 이슬은 원의 형태를 띠고 있지만 그 형태는 고정되어 있지 않고 끊임없이 변화하는 존재이다. 이슬은 자연 속의 소재로써 불완전한 원형으로 존재한다고도 할 수 있다. 이에 조금 더 완벽한 원의 형태로 존재하는 유리구슬로 작품의 영역을 확대하였다. 구슬은 맑고 투명한 성질을 가지고 있어 무엇이든 비출 수 있는 투명함을 갖고 있다는 점에서 무한한 가능성을 지니고 있다고 할 수 있다. 어떤 사물이나 행위를 모두 담아낼 수 있다는 것은 우리가 살고 있는 세계를 관찰하고 포용하겠다는 의미로 해석할 수 있었다. 원형으로 존재하는 두 소재를 통하여 원의 의미와 상징을 구현해보고자 하였다. 원은 기하학적 형태들 중 가장 단순한 형태이며 부드러운 곡선으로 이루어져 있고, 동적인 운동감과 완전함을 느낄 수 있다. 원은 시작과 끝이 없는 형태적 특성으로 안정감을 주는 동시에 무한 반복을 통한 변화를 요구하기도 하여 우리에게 정신적 또는 심리적으로 다양한 기능적 역할을 한다. 이에 대한 이론적 기반을 마련하기 위해 원의 상징성에 대한 문헌 고찰을 통해 원의 형태적 특성과 상징적 의미를 살펴보는 한편, 다양한 형태로 나타난 원의 상징적 의미를 유리구슬과 결부시켜 이론적으로 연구해 보고자 하였다. 이에 본 연구에서는 유리구슬을 조형적으로 표현하는 과정에서 원이 가지고 있는 다양한 상징들 가운데 포용성, 완전성과 영속성을 결부시켜 논의해 보고자 하였다. 주변의 것을 끌어안고 담아내는 포용성과 완벽한 원형으로 존재하는 구슬의 조형적 이미지에서 연상되는 완전성, 그리고 무한의 개념을 담은 영속성과 연결하여 작품의 주제로 삼았다. 표현방법에 있어서는 빛과 바탕의 변화에 따라 달라지는 유리구슬의 색감과 구슬의 투명한 질감을 화면에 효과적으로 표현하기 위해 종이의 종류에 따른 색의 번짐과 농도에 대해 연구하였으며 많은 드로잉을 통해 구슬 본연의 모습을 표현하는 동시에 구슬이 지닌 특성을 전달해보고자 화면의 재구성과 재해석을 하였다. 또한 신비로운 유리구슬 내부공간의 무늬를 활용하여 구형의 율동감에 자유로운 리듬감을 더하였으며, 유리구슬의 반복을 통한 구성과 원의 중첩을 통해 수직적 깊이가 느껴지는 공간을 표현하고자 하였다. 이와 같이 원은 종교적, 철학적, 심리적으로 전달하는 메시지가 크지만 회화적 요소로도 발전 가능성이 많다는 것을 깨달았다. 본 연구자는 원이 가지는 풍부하고 경이로운 상징적 의미들을 연구함으로써 작품 창작의 기본적 이론을 체계화 하였고 주제에 대한 깊이 있는 연구를 통해 다양한 의미를 전달하고자 하였다.;A dewdrop which exists in a form of a round shape in nature, is recognized as a pure transparent object that reflects lights of its surroundings into colorful rays of light providing a mysterious atmosphere by the researcher of this article. Such a dewdrop forms in a round shape. However, its form is not fixed but constantly changing. Therefore, the boundary of the work has been extended to glass beads which are in a form that is a bit closer to the shape of a perfect circle. A bead can be regarded to have unlimited possibility in the sense that it has transparency which enables it to reflect anything due to its natures in pureness and transparency The sense that it is capable of reflecting any of objects or behaviors can be interpreted as that it intends to observe the world we live in and also embrace it at the same time. It is intended to realize the meaning and the symbol of a circle through two materials that exist in the form of a round shape. A circle is the simplest shape among all geometric forms, and consists of a smooth curve which provides the sense of dynamic motion as well as perfection. The morphological characteristic of a circle that it does not have its beginning nor its end, provides a sense of stability, and at the same time requires changes throughout infinite repetition from us, playing a role in various functions spiritually and psychologically on us. In order to secure a theoretical basis for it, the morphological characteristics and the symbolic meanings of a circle has been studied throughout examining the literature dealing with its symbolism. In the meantime, the symbolic meanings of a circle that are presented in various forms have been examined in relation with glass beads in intention to study them theoretically. Therefore this study intends to discuss the process of presenting glass beads plasticly, in connection with perfection, magnanimity, and permanence among the various symbols of a circle. The theme of the work is based on the formative image of beads that exist in the form of a perfect round shape as well as its connection to three characteristics presented in the image; perfection, magnanimity to embrace the surroundings, and permanence that connotes a sense of infiniteness. In terms of representation methods, in order to represent effectively on the screen both the changing quality of light on the glass beads depending on the light and its surroundings and the transparent texture of the beads, the level of color’s spreading and density depending on the type of paper has been studied. Reformation and reinterpretation of the screen has been carried out in order to represent the natural image of the beads throughout numerous practice of drawing as well as to deliver the characteristics possessed by the beads at the same time. Also, using the mysterious patterns contained inside the beads, a sense of rhythm has been added to the sense of liberal dynamicity. And throughout the composition of repetitive glass beads and the overlaps of circles, the vertical depth of space has been intended to be represented. For such reasons, this process has illuminated that a circle delivers a significant message in spiritual, philosophical, and psychological sense as well as that it has a lot of possibility to develop as a pictorial element. The researcher systematized the basic theories in creation of work throughout studying abundant mysterious symbolic meanings in a circle, and intended to deliver various meanings throughout an in-depth study on the subject.
