지각된 부모의 심리적 통제와 중학생 자녀의 학업지연행동의 관계에서 사회부과적 완벽주의와 실패공포의 매개효과

Abstract

지연행동은 만성화되는 경향이 있고 다양한 영역에 걸쳐 부정적인 결과를 가져오는 것으로 알려져 있어, 최근 활발한 연구가 이루어지고 있다. 학업지연행동은 학업장면에서의 주관적인 불편감을 경험하면서 미룸을 보이는 것을 뜻하며, 선행연구들에서 부모가 애정철회, 비일관적인 승인과 같은 심리적으로 통제적인 양육방식을 사용하는 경우 강화되는 경향이 있는 것으로 알려져 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 이후 더 다양한 부적응적인 문제를 야기할 것으로 생각되는 청소년기의 학업지연행동에 있어 부모의 영향을 알아보고자 하였다. 또한 선행연구들에서는 부모의 심리적 통제가 청소년 자녀의 학업지연행동에 있어 인지적, 정서적 측면에 다각적으로 영향을 주게 되어 매개변인을 통한 설명력의 필요성을 제기하고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 부모의 심리적 통제로 발달하며 학업지연행동에 영향을 준다는 것으로 알려진 사회부과적 완벽주의와 실패공포를 함께 고려하여 이들 간의 관계를 살펴보았다. 따라서 본 연구는 지각된 아버지 또는 어머니의 심리적 통제와 학업지연행동 간의 관계에서 사회부과적 완벽주의와 실패공포의 매개효과를 알아보기 위한 목적으로 실시되었다. 이를 위해 서울 및 경상도에 소재한 중학교 1, 2, 3학년 640명을 대상으로 조사를 실시하였으며, 각 변인들 간의 관련성을 알아보고자 상관분석을 실시한 뒤, 구조방정식 분석을 통해 구조적 관계를 살펴보았다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 상관분석을 실시하여 변인들 간의 상호 관련성을 살펴본 결과 지각된 아버지의 심리적 통제, 지각된 어머니의 심리적 통제, 사회부과적 완벽주의, 실패공포, 학업지연행동간의 유의미한 정적 상관이 확인되었다. 둘째, 변인들 간의 구조적 관계를 파악하기 위하여 지각된 아버지의 심리적 통제와 지각된 어머니의 심리적 통제 각각에 대한 구조방정식 모형을 분석한 결과, 지각된 어머니의 심리적 통제가 학업지연행동에 미치는 직접경로를 제외한 모든 경로가 유의미한 것으로 나타났다. 이 중 지각된 아버지 또는 어머니의 심리적 통제가 사회부과적 완벽주의로 가는 경로가 가장 강한 영향력을 가지는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 지각된 아버지 또는 어머니의 심리적 통제와 학업지연행동의 관계에서 사회부과적 완벽주의와 실패공포의 매개효과를 검정하기 위해 Sobel test를 실시하였다. 그 결과 지각된 아버지 또는 어머니의 심리적 통제와 학업지연행동 사이에서 사회부과적 완벽주의가 단순매개효과를 나타냈으며, 사회부과적 완벽주의와 실패공포로 이어지는 이중매개효과가 유의미한 것으로 나타났다. 연구 결과를 종합해보면, 아버지 또는 어머니의 심리적 통제는 사회부과적 완벽주의를 발달시키고, 이러한 성향은 타인의 기준에 부합해야만 자신이 인정받는다고 여기게 만들어 학업지연행동을 증가시키는 한편, 실패공포를 유발해 학업지연행동에 영향을 미친다는 것을 알 수 있다. 즉, 아버지 또는 어머니의 심리적 통제가 중학생 자녀의 학업지연행동에 영향을 미치는 사회부과적 완벽주의와 실패공포에 선행하는 것이 확인됨에 따라 이를 부모의 심리적 통제로 인한 학업지연행동으로 어려움을 겪는 중학생을 위한 개입전략을 수립하는데 활용할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.;The purpose of this study was to identify the relation between perceived paternal or maternal psychological control and academic procrastination. In addition, this study attempted to investigate the mediator effect of socially prescribed perfectionism and fear of failure on the relationship between perceived paternal or maternal psychological control and academic procrastination. The study participants(640 middle school students) were drawn from Seoul and Gyeongsang province. The data were analyzed with Pearson's correlation, Structural Equation Modeling by SPSS 22.0 and M-plus 7.0. The results of the study were as follow: First, there was positive correlations among perceived paternal psychological control, perceived maternal psychological control, socially prescribed perfectionism, fear of failure and academic procrastination. Second, the examination of structural relation among the major variables showed that all the paths were significant except the path from perceived maternal psychological control to academic procrastination. Especially, the path from perceived paternal or maternal psychological control to socially prescribed perfectionism was the most powerful. Third, the result indicated that the mediating effect of socially prescribed perfectionism between perceived paternal or maternal psychological control and academic procrastination was significant, as well as dual-mediated effect of socially prescribed perfectionism and fear of failure between perceived paternal or maternal psychological control and academic procrastination was also significant. These results showed that socially prescribed perfectionism and fear of failure should be included and examined in designed a intervention program for middle school students who had academic procrastination. Finding in this study also exhibited the direction for future research of relation between paternal or maternal psychological control and academic procrastination.
