부모의 헬리콥터 양육과 사회적 안녕감, 핵심자기평가의 관계

Abstract

본 연구의 목적은 대학생이 지각하는 어머니 및 아버지의 헬리콥터 양육과 사회적 안녕감, 핵심자기평가간의 구조적 관계를 확인하는 것이다. 선행 연구를 토대로, 지각된 어머니와 아버지의 헬리콥터 양육과 사회적 안녕감의 관계를 핵심자기평가가 매개할 것이라는 가설을 세웠다. 본 연구에서는 부모가 결혼 상태를 유지하고 있는 서울 소재지 4년제 대학의 재학 중인 대학생 505명을 대상을 연구를 진행하였으며, 지각된 어머니와 아버지의 헬리콥터 부모 역할, 핵심자기평가, 사회적 안녕감 척도를 포함한 온라인 설문을 실시하였다. 설문을 통해 수집된 자료에 대해 기술통계, 상관분석, 독립표본 t검증을 실시하였고, 구조 방정식 모형 분석과 매개효과 검증을 진행하였다. 주요 변인들의 관계에 대한 성차를 확인하기 위해 연구 모형에 대한 다집단 분석을 실시하여 다음과 같은 결론을 도출하였다. 첫째, 주요 변인간 성차를 확인하기 위해 독립표본 t검증을 실시한 결과, 기대한 변인들에서 유의미한 성차가 발견되지 않았다. 사회적 안녕감의 하위 요인인 사회적 일관성을 남성이 여성보다 높게 경험한다는 결과가 도출되었으나, 지각된 헬리콥터 양육의 수준에서 남녀 차는 발견되지 않았다. 둘째, 주요 변인들의 상관 관계를 남녀 집단 별로 분석한 결과, 남녀 집단에서 어머니의 헬리콥터 양육과 핵심자기평가 그리고 어머니 헬리콥터 양육과 사회적 안녕감은 유의한 부적 관계가 나타났으며, 핵심자기평가와 사회적 안녕감에서는 강한 정적 관계가 발견되었다. 반면, 아버지의 헬리콥터 양육과 핵심자기평가의 부적 관계는 남성 집단에서만 유의한 것으로 밝혀졌다. 셋째, 연구모형의 구조방정식 모형 검증 결과, 연구 모형이 자료에 적합한 것으로 나타났으며, 어머니와 아버지의 헬리콥터 양육은 다른 방식으로 사회적 안녕감에 작용한다는 점이 밝혀졌다. 어머니의 헬리콥터 양육은 핵심자기평가를 매개하여 사회적 안녕감에 간접적인 부적 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으나, 아버지의 헬리콥터 양육에서는 사회적 안녕감에 대한 직접적인 부적 효과가 발견되었다. 넷째, 다집단 분석 결과, 연구모형에 있어 부모의 성별과 자녀 성별의 상호작용이 발견되었다. 어머니의 헬리콥터 양육이 핵심자기 평가에 이르는 경로의 차이가 남녀 집단에서 유의하게 나타나, 남성 집단의 경우 여성 집단에 비해 어머니가 핵심자기평가에 미치는 부적 효과가 더 큰 것으로 밝혀졌다. 또한 남성 집단의 경우 전체 및 여성 집단과 달리 아버지의 헬리콥터 양육이 핵심자기평가에 이르는 경로가 유의한 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구를 통해, 핵심자기평가가 헬리콥터 양육과 사회적 안녕감을 매개하는 변인임을 확인하였다. 나아가 어머니와 아버지의 헬리콥터 양육을 독립적으로 측정하되 상호 관계에 있는 것으로 모형을 설정하여, 남녀 집단 별로 부모의 헬리콥터 양육을 어떻게 경험하고 있는지 확인하였다. 이를 통해 남녀 대학생 집단에 따라 구분된 방식으로 사회적 안녕감과 핵심자기평가에 개입해야 할 필요성이 제기되었다.;Helicopter parenting, a form of overprotecting parenting toward grown children, has been examined as a factor affecting adult's psychological well being: however, a little research has done to figure out the relationship between helicopter parenting and social level of personal well-being. One of the purpose of this study is to examine the mediating effect of core self-evaluation on the relationship between helicopter parenting and social well-being, while hypothesizing maternal, and paternal helicopter parenting would influence each other. Furthermore, the study predicts the effect of the gender difference between parents and children on the association among helicopter parenting, social well-being and core self-evaluation. To examine hypothesis of the study, 505 undergraduate students from 43 universities completed surveys that measured helicopter parenting, social well-being and core self-evaluation. Correlation analyses established that maternal helicopter parenting was negatively related with core self-evaluation and social well-being in both sex groups. On the other hand, a negative relationship between paternal helicopter parenting and core self-evaluation was only revealed in males. Results of structural equation modeling (SEM) analysis supported that effects of maternal and paternal helicopter parenting differently applied on children's social well-being; maternal helicopter parenting was mediated by core self-evaluation, then negatively affected children's social well-being, however, paternal helicopter parenting had a direct negative effect on children's social well-being. Moreover, a test of structural model invariance across children's sex groups reported that the negative effect of maternal helicopter parenting on children's core self-evaluation was significantly stronger in males compared to females. A negative effect of paternal helicopter parenting on core self evaluation was also only founded in males. The results implied that differentiated interventions would be need to protect social well-being and core self-evaluation of children exposed to helicopter parenting in emerging adulthood.
