Donald Judd 작품의 조형성을 응용한 패션디자인 연구

Abstract

패션과 예술의 만남은 서로가 가지고 있는 예술적 가치를 공유하고 새로운 것을 창조하려는 노력에서 시작 되었다. 현대 패션디자인은 최근까지 미술, 음악, 건축, 패션 등의 그 경계를 넘나들며 여러 요소들이 어우러져 새로운 디자인 개발로 이어지고 있다. 이는 예술작품에서 보여지는 표현 기법이나 특징적인 모티브를 패션디자인에 접목시켜 그 경계를 확장시켜나가고 새로운 디자인을 제시하여 패션의 예술성을 구체화 시켰다. 또한 최근 패션 디자이너들은 예술작품의 모티브를 패션에 접목시켜 패션디자인에 활용되는 다양한 표현과 효과를 적용시킴으로써 예술성을 강조하기도 한다. 따라서 현대의 디자인 활동은 각 경계가 무의미해지면서 패션 디자인은 그의미가 점점 확대되어 과학, 건축, 조각 등의 다양한 장르의 요소들이 여러 각도의 관점에서 어우러져 디자인 영역을 확대시키고 예술적 가치를 발견함과 동시에 새로운 조형적 가능성도 모색하게 되었다. 패션은 2차원 평면을 사용하여 인체를 아름답게 하는 입체 조형 작업으로 시각적 조형 요소를 형태로 한다. 이에 입체적인 대상물을 2차원의 평면에서 표현하고 입체에 나타난 조각 혹은 회화임을 나타내는 작품은 본 연구자에게 새로운 평면패턴 구성방식의 패션디자인을 제시하는데 중요한 모티브로 작용하였다. 이에 본 연구는 회화, 조각, 건축, 가구, 인테리어등 다양한 장르의 예술을 일관된 미적거리로 통일시킨 미니멀아트의 대표적 작가이자 조각가인 도널드 저드(Donald judd,1928-1994) 작품의 조형성을 분석하여 패션디자인의 모티브로 활용하고, 실크스크린 기법을 이용해 입체적인 대상물을 2차원의 평면패턴으로 구조해체하고 재구성하여 디자인 하였다. 이를 통해 패션에 있어서 조형예술과 기법을 접목한 독창적인 패션디자인을 제시하여 새로운 표현 가능성을 제시하고자 하는데 그 목적이 있다. 본 연구의 방법은 도널드 저드와 실크스크린에 관련된 이론적 고찰은 학위논문과 단행본, 학술 연구지 등의 문헌 자료와 패션 전문지와 인터넷, 패션 정보 사이트의 실증적 자료를 토대로 수집 분석 하였다. 본 연구의 내용으로는 첫째는 도널드 저드 작품의 형성배경과 그 세계를 알아보았다. 이를 토대로 도널드 저드의 작품에서 나타나는 조형적 특성을 형과 형태, 재질, 색채로 나눠 분석한 후 미니멀 아트의 조형미를 응용한 현대 패션디자인 사례를 살펴보았다. 둘째는 본 연구의 주요 기법으로 사용된 실크스크린의 개념과 역사, 표현기법의 특징을 고찰 하였으며 실크스크린 기법을 응용한 현대 패션디자인 사례를 알아보았다. 디자인 표현 방법으로 도널드 저드의 작품에서 도출해낸 조형적 특성의 모티브를 실크스크린 기법을 통해 평면패턴으로 재구성하여 디자인에 적용하였다. 또한 도널드 저드 작품의 조형적 특성을 형과 형태, 재질, 색채로 분석하여 기하학적 단위형태의 직육면체의 형태특성과 투명하고 매끄러운 재질감, 밝고 원색적인 색채의 대비를 토대로 총 6점의 의상을 제작 하였다. 이러한 연구 활동을 바탕으로 도널드 저드 작품의 조형적 특성을 응용한 패션디자인에 관한 연구를 통해 얻은 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 도널드 저드의 작품의 기하학적 단위형태의 직육면체의 반복 배열을 통한 구성은 단순한 반복을 통해 규칙성과 방향성을 부여함을 알 수 있었다. 둘째, 입체작품의 모티브를 평면패턴으로 재구성하여 투명 폴리우레탄에 적용하였을 때, 인체가 움직이면서 베이스의상위에 얹은 투명폴리우레탄과의 공간감을 생성함을 알 수 있었다. 이는 인체가 움직이면서 투명 폴리 우레탄위의 모티브가 인체에 삽입되는 듯한 시각적 효과가 가능함을 확인할 수 있었다. 셋째, 베이스의상의 채도가 높은 형광컬러를 적용한 결과 투명 폴리 우레탄위의 모티브와 색채의 대비를 이루어 모티브를 부각시킬 수 있었다. 또한 도널드저드 작품의 조형적 특성중 하나인 색의 대비효과를 패션 디자인에도 적용할 수 있었다. 넷째, 작품의 주소재인 모티브가 있는 투명 폴리우레탄은 베이스의상과의 독립적으로 나누어 투명 폴리우레탄의 외곽을 나사로 연결시켜 마무리하였을 때 모티브의 교체가 용이함을 알 수 있었다. 다섯째, 베이스의상은 두께감있는 싱글스판 폴리합포 소재를 사용함으로서 작품의 실루엣에 안정적인 형태감을 유지시킬 수 있었다. 여섯째, 실크스크린 기법은 의도적인 모티브 구조해체로 생성된 새로운 기하학적 형태단위의 모티브를 의상에 자연스럽게 전달할 수 있었다. 이와 같이 의상에 도입할 수 있는 예술작품의 모티브는 의상의 조형적 표현의 영역을 확장 시키고 다양한 미의식과 예술성을 지니게 된다. 이에 본 연구와 같이 도널드 저드의 입체 작품의 조형성을 평면패턴으로 형상화시키기 위한 조형작업에 비중을 둔 의상디자인으로 투명 폴리우레탄과 실크스크린기법을 접목한 패션디자인 아이템 구성은 저드 작품의 조형적 특성을 표현하기위한 디자인의 통일성을 주는 의상디자인 으로서 경쟁력을 확인할 수 있었다. 이에 본 연구를 통해 예술 작품의 조형성과 기법이 패션디자인에 접목되어 다양한 표현 가능성과 실질적인 디자인 개발 도구로서 활성화 될 수 있기를 기대해 본다.;The rendezvous of fashion and arts was initiated by efforts that aspired to share their artistic values and create something entirely new. Thus far, modern fashion designs are traversing the edges to other domains of arts, music, architecture, fashion, and more, shuffling and blending the assortments of the ensuing elements to invent new designs. Expressive techniques and unique motifs in the art works were fused with fashion designs to expand their parameters and artistry of the works; as such, in recent events, fashion designers have integrated the expressions and effects of fashion designs with motifs from art works to enrich their artistic merits. Accordingly, the progress of modern fashion designs is rendering these borders irrelevant, yet, inflating their credence across the elements of science, architecture, sculpture, and further genre, newly finding in them the artistic values as well as formative possibilities. Fashion employs 2-dimensional planes and forms visual formative features with multi-dimensional formation to confer beauty to the human body. Here, being able to represent 3-dimensional objects on 2-dimensional plane served as a significant motif for the writer in suggesting fashion design of new flat pattern structure. In this study, the formativeness presented the works of an artist and sculptor, Donald Judd (1928-1994), who was the leading exponent of minimalism which united various genres of arts of paintings, sculptures, architecture, furniture, and interior designs with aesthetic distance, was analyzed, and the results were utilized as motifs of fashion designs. Using silk screen technique, 3-dimensional objects were structurally disintegrated into 2-dimensional flat patterns then restructured. The study, also, proposed creative fashion designs fused with formative arts to elevate the artistic merits of fashion and suggested the possibilities of innovative representation. For the theoretical inquiries to Donald Judd and silk screen, the data were collected from dissertations, monographs, academic journals and other sources of literature, and their corroborative materials were collected via fashion magazines and fashion information websites on the internet for analysis. As for the contents of the study, first, the writer looked into the background information and the world of Donald Judd and his works. The properties of formativeness were categorized by shape, form, material, and color, and looked into modern fashion designs that applied the formative aesthetics of minimalism. Second, the concept, history and expressive techniques of silk screen, the foremost important technique used in this study, were examined, and the writer sought modern fashion designs that applied this technique. As for the methods of design expression, the motif of formative properties from the works of Donald Judd was reconstructed as flat pattern via silk screen technique. Also, the properties of formativeness from the works of Donald Judd were analyzed by their shapes, forms, materials, and colors, and 6 articles of garments were designed and made based on the cubical geometric unit forms, transparent and silky texture, and contrasts of bright and primary colors. The conclusions acquired from the study of fashion designs that incorporates the formativeness of the works of Donald Judd are as follows. First, the study was able to learn that the composition of the works of Donald Judd which repetitively arrange quadrilateral geometric unit forms presented patterns and direction. Second, when the restructured flat pattern from 3-dimensional piece was applied to transparent polyurethane, the study was able to learn that the body’s movement created a sense of space between transparent polyurethane on the base garment. This discovery exhibited the prospect of visual effect of the motif on the transparent polyurethane being inserted into the human body as it moved. Third, by changing the color of base garment to florescent with high saturation, the motif on the transparent polyurethane was more accentuated. Here, the effect of color contrast, one of formative properties found in the works of Donald Judd, was applied to fashion design. Fourth, changing the motifs was less demanding when the transparent polyurethane, the key material of this project that carries the motif, was detached from the base garment and only connected by screws from the outside. Fifth, the base garment was able to uphold unwavering shape and contours when thick poly-knitted single spandex material was used as its fabric. Sixth, silk screen technique was able to naturally deliver the motif of geometric unit forms from created from calculated structural disintegration on the garment. Thus, motifs derived from art works into fashion expand the domain of formative expression and conserve sense of beauty and artistry. The study was able to confirm competitiveness of composition of fashion design items fused with transparent polyurethane and silk screen technique which, on a 2-dimensional space, interprets the formative multi-dimensional works as flat pattern. This study anticipates to be utilized as a practical design development tool by enabling a variety of expression by combining fashion designs and formativeness of art works.
