한국어 문두 여격어 연구

Abstract

본고는 문두 여격어의 통사적 특징을 살피고 그것이 한국어의 전형적 주어의 특징에 얼마나 부합하는지를 살핀다. 문두 여격어는 기존의 논의에서 특이격주어의 하나인 여격주어로 분류되어 왔으나, 한국어의 주어 개념과 주어 검증법이 정립되지 못한 상태에서 이것을 주어로 분석하는 것에는 재고의 여지가 있다. 이에 따라 형태적, 통사적, 의미적 관점에서 주어의 기준을 정리한 후 그것을 문두 여격어에 적용시켜 한국어의 문두 여격어를 여격주어로 설정할 수 있는지 밝히고자 하였다. 또한 문두 여격어의 의미·화용적 기능을 형태적 특징에서 기인하는 것으로 파악하고 분석하고자 하였다. 1장에서는 본고의 연구 대상 및 연구 목적을 확인하고 문두 여격어 구문에 대한 기존의 논의들을 검토함으로써 기존의 논의들이 갖는 문제점을 파악하고 연구 방향을 제시하였다. 2장에서는 주어에 관한 이론적 내용을 다루었다. 기존 논의에서 제시되었던 주어의 개념을 정리함으로써 여전히 주어의 정의가 합의되지 못하고 있음을 지적하고 이 문제를 해결하기 위해 주어의 정의에 ‘전형성(prototype)’의 개념을 수용하는 것이 유용함을 밝혔다. 그리고 전형적인 주어의 특성을 형태적, 통사적, 의미적 관점에서 각각 서술함으로써 전형성을 기준으로 주어를 정의하기 위한 기반을 마련하였다. 특히 전형적 주어의 통사적 기준을 세세하게 검토함으로써 기존 논의에서 무비판적으로 사용되던 주어검증법의 맹점을 지적하고, 적절한 주어 검증법만을 선별하였다. 또한 문두 여격어의 주어성과 의미·화용적 기능을 유형론적 측면에서 검토하기 위하여 특이격주어와 여격주어의 범언어적 양상을 살폈다. 범언어적으로 폭넓게 분포하고 있는 여격주어는 특정한 의미범주의 서술어가 사용되는 구문에서 활발히 나타나는 경향이 있다. 이는 한국어의 문두 여격어도 마찬가지이나, 한국어의 문두 여격어는 서술어에 따라 다른 통사적 양상을 보일 것으로 예측되었다. 이에 따라 문두 여격어 구문을 서술어에 따라 유형별로 분류하였다. 3장에서는 2장의 논의를 바탕으로 하여 문두 여격어 구문의 통사적 특징을 정리하였다. 서술어에 따라 분류한 문두 여격어 구문의 통사적 양상을 주어성 검증 기제를 중심으로 살피고, 그를 통해 구문별로 문두 여격어와 주격 명사구의 주어성을 검증하였다. 문두 여격어의 주어성은 일관된 양상을 보이지 않았으며, 서술어에 따라 차등이 있음이 밝혀졌다. 4장에서는 문두 여격어 구문이 사용되는 원인을 의미·화용적 관점에서 분석하였다. 문두 여격어 구문은 부사격조사인 여격조사가 사용된 것으로 문법격조사가 쓰인 이중주어문과 분명한 의미적 차이를 갖는다. 또한 여격 명사구가 문두에 나타남으로 인해서 갖는 화용적 기능도 밝혔다. 마지막으로 5장에서는 본고의 논의를 요약하고 남은 문제를 제시하였다.; The objective of this study is to examine the syntactic characteristics of the fronted dative constructions in Korean and their subjecthood properties. It has been widely accepted that the fronted dative exhibit subjecthood properties in general and can be regarded as a manifestation of the dative case phenomenon. However, in the absence of a legitimate set of syntactic tests for subjecthood in Korean which are widely agreed upon, previous conclusions on the subjecthood of the fronted dative requires more work. Therefore, this study seeks to establish the defining characteristics of subjecthood in Korean syntactically and semantically, in order to see if the fronted dative constructions pass the tests. The second chapter examines the definitions of subjecthood in Korean made in previous studies and argues that the subjecthood should be diagnosed by the degree of correspondence against the prototypical characteristics of the subject in a given language. In order to do that, further clarifications are made on the morphological, syntactic and semantic characteristics of the subjecthood in Korean. The third chapter investigates the syntactic characteristics of the fronted dative constructions based on the arguments made in the previous chapter. It turns out, according to the subjecthood test for various constructions with the fronted dative which are subdivided by the predicate type, that the degree of subjecthood in fronted dative constructions varies widely. The fourth chapter analyzes the types of constructions with the fronted dative and their semantic and pragmatic requirements. fronted dative are noun phrased suffixed with adverbial case markers and are markedly different from the double-subject sentences in meaning and semantic functions. The fifth chapter sums up the arguments and gives a conclusion.
