Rebecca Clarke의 Sonata for Viola and Piano에 관한 분석 연구

Abstract

본 논문은 레베카 헬퍼리히 클라크(Rebecca Helferich Clarke, 1886-1979)의 작품인 Sonata Viola and Piano에 대한 분석연구이다. 제 1차 세계대전과 제 2차 세계대전 사이에 활동했던 중요한 영국의 작곡가로 평가받는 여성 작곡가이다. 여성으로서 인정받기 힘든 시기임에도 불구하고, Royal College of Music에 입학하였다. 찰스 빌리어스 스탠포드의 첫 여성 제자가 된 이후 작곡 활동을 계속 했다. 작곡 능력뿐 아니라 영국의 전문 오케스트라에서 첫 여성 연주자로서 활동하며 비올라 연주 실력도 인정받았다. 비올라 소나타는 곡 수가 많지 않은데 여성 작곡가로서 Sonata Viola and Piano를 작곡했다는 점이 흥미를 갖게 한다. 훌륭한 비올라 연주자였던 만큼 이 곡은 비올라의 특징이 아주 잘 드러나는 작품이라 할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 1919년에 작곡된‘Sonata Viola and Piano’속에서 그녀의 음악적 특징과 이상, 그리고 곡에서 보여주는 비올라만의 특색을 살펴보기로 한다. 먼저, 그녀의 생애와 음악적 특징을 살펴보고, 각 악장을 형식, 화성, 선율, 리듬, 다이나믹 등을 토대로 심도 있게 분석해 보고자 한다.; The purpose of the study is to analyze and research of‘Sonata Viola and Piano’which is Rebbeca Helferich Clarke's work. She is evaluated as the important British female composer who worked in between World War Ⅰ and World War Ⅱ. Although, it was hard time for the female composer to be recognized, she attended the Royal College of Music. After she became Sir Charles Villiers Stanford's first female student, she continued her activity of composition. People appreciate not only her composing talent, but also performance ability in the way that she was the first female member of the professional orchestra in UK. It is interesting that she composed ‘Sonata Viola and Piano’ as the female composer in spite of a small number of viola sonata, As she is the distinguished violist, this work shows properties of viola efficiently. In this paper, I'll look into her musical property, ideal and distinct features of viola in ‘Sonata Viola and Piano’ which is composed in 1919. After examining her entire life and musical property, I'll analyze deeply each movement in terms of musical form, melody, rhythm, and dynamics.
