Toward Liberalism

Abstract

“The Interview”, an American political satire comedy film portraying the assassination of the North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, and the subsequent Sony Pictures Entertainment hack is the case of the study. This study conducted a rhetorical analysis, more specifically ideological criticism, proposed by Sonja K. Foss in 2004, on the U.S. national discourse to reveal the nature of an ideology and its strategies behind the rhetoric. The significance of the study was included in the three clauses; (1) outline the conflict structure that the U.S. propose regarding to the issue of free speech, (2) track the significance of the ideology to the U.S. and (3) predict how the free speech issue will be discussed in the global society in the twenty-first century.
