Cognitive theory of anxiety suggests that biased information processing contributes to the onset and the maintenance of pathological anxiety as well as affects incidental phenomena of anxiety(Beck et al., 1985). The causal relationship between interpretive bias, a kind of biased information processing, and anxiety has been examined using an experimental design in which interpretive bias was induced directly and then the causal role of this interpretive bias in anxiety was investigated. One can suppose that if induced interpretive bias affects anxiety, then interpretive bias can be assumed to have effects on other features related to anxiety; however, anxiety has been frequently assessed with explicit measures. Therefore, the purposes of the present study were to confirm that interpretive bias could be induced using Cognitive Bias Modification-Interpretation(CBM; Mathews & Mackintosh, 2000) and to investigate that interpretive bias might have effects not only on implicit anxiety but also on heartbeat perception as well as on explicit anxiety. In all experiments, participants interpreted ambiguous situations in a benign or negative way depending on their randomly allocated induction condition. This finding indicated that interpretive bias can be induced, which is consistent with previous studies. The goal of Experiment 1 was to assess that trained interpretive bias influenced explicit anxiety. Explicit anxiety was measured using self-reported state anxiety; the finding showed that state anxiety increased significantly in the negative training group after a stress task. Experiment 2 was to examine that induced interpretive bias affected implicit anxiety using Implicit Association Test-Anxiety(IAT-A; Egloff & Schmukle, 2002). The result indicated that implicit anxiety decreased significantly in the positive training group after a stress task. Experiment 3 aimed to show that modified interpretive bias influenced the perception of body sensation related to anxiety using Mental Tracking Paradigm(Schandry, 1981) to assess the task of the perception of heartbeat. Negative trained participants decreased significantly the error rate of their heartbeat perception after a stress task. In sum, I confirmed that interpretive bias affected accuracy of heartbeat perception as well as explicit anxiety and implicit anxiety. These findings would provide evidence to support information processing theory that interpretive bias can lead to anxiety. Moreover, the treatment of anxiety disorders could benefit from the finding that interpretive bias can be modified.;불안의 인지 이론은 편향된 정보처리가 병리적 불안의 발생과 유지에 기여할 뿐 아니라 불안에 동반되는 증상에 영향을 준다고 주장한다.
