Abstract
Because Yanggeum has been played almost by the Gayageum musicians, It is true that the melodies of Yanggeum are roughly known to be in harmonious accordance with that of Gayageum. But under the circumstance of few researches related with this thesis, it is required to put a study on the how much and how the comparison between the Gayageum and the Yanggeum goes on in the field of traditional playing of each other’s instrument. Even though among the composition including both of them, Gayageum and the Yanggeum, Yeominrak was provided with plenty value of research, the research focused on the comparison of melody between the Gayageum and the Yanggeum has yet to be done. Therefore this study picks up the field of Yeominrak as a research spectrum of traditional play and analyzes the comparison between the Gayageum and the Yanggeum, which comes to the relationship including the community, similarity, difference between the Gayageum and the Yanggeum. The unit of the comparison is made up of each Deagang. Under the analysis of the 896 Deagang including from chapter 1 to chapter 7 of Yeominrak, I end up with the conclusion hereinafter. Firstly, the origin and derivation of the Yeominrak, the change, the composition of music are precisely checked up in accordance with the theoretical background of the music for the research of the comparison between the Gayageum and the Yanggeum. In conclusion, this study figures out that because the occurrence and method of playing are differentiated, the distinctive acoustic traits are shown well, which gets rid of the musical simplicity Secondly, the result of the research upon the equivalent melodies between the Gayageum and the Yanggeum is as follows. The proportion of the agreed melodies between the Gayageum and the Yanggeum is increasing as follows in accordance with the procedure of the music, first chapter 60%, second chapter 66%, third chapter 78%, fourth chapter 93%, fifth chapter 94%, sixth chapter 96%, seventh chapter 95% among the whole melody flow of Yeominrak. Specially, the distinction on the appearance of the similar melody between the 1〜3 chapter at which one Jangdan is played slowly as 20 and the 4〜7 chapter at which one Jangdan is played fast as 20 is found. I can figure out the tempo of the equivalent melody is rapidly uprising from chapter 1〜3 to chapter 4, which is changing point of the tempo. The equivalent proceedings of Gayageum and the Yanggeum makes out a perfect harmony producing plenty of similarities upon the change of the tempo. It was expected to find more changes at the slow tempo, after the chapter 4 Bak is changing with the fast tempo the similar melody is leveled up rapidly, by which the tone unification was provided upon the tense tempo. Thirdly, the result of the research upon the similar melodies between the Gayageum and the Yanggeum is as follows. Partly similar melodies between the Gayageum and the Yanggeum is applied to 7% to the chapter 1, 12% to the chapter 2, 11% to the chapter 3, 5% to the chapter 4, 5% to the chapter 5, 3% to the chapter 6, 3% to the chapter 7, which is slowed down one by one. Especially the difference between the chapter 1〜3 and the chapter 4〜7 is distinguished in a tempo. I can find the proportion of the similar tempo is rapidly decreasing from chapter 1〜3 to chapter 4 which is changing point of the tempo. The similar melodies appears a lot at the slow chapter rather than the fast chapter. The growing proportion of the similar melody from the slow chapter to the fast chapter, which is equivalent to from chapter 1 tp chapter 3, insinuates the change of the flow on the music. The Rhythmical allocation upon the same melody is processed most often, which breathes in the freshness into the music in accordance with the harmonious melody. Fourth, the result of the research upon the complex similar melodies between the Gayageum and the Yanggeum is as follows. The proportion of the complex similar melody between Gayageum and the Yanggeum is decreasing step by step throughout the Yeominrak, which is applied to 21% to the chapter 1, 17% to the chapter 2, 9% to the chapter 3, 1% to the chapter 4, 0% to the chapter 5, 0% to the chapter 6, 1% to the chapter 7. Progressing into the chapter 4 the decline of the proportion falls deeply, which is the natural result of the growth of the relative tempo. The same melody between the Gayageum and the Yanggeum comes up both at the former part and the later part, which shows the variety of the melody change. Throughout the complex similar melodies, the type of melody on the Yanggeum can be inferred. By this process, the various way of making harmony with the Yanggeum proves the possibility of that way. Fifth, the result of the research upon the different melodies between the Gayageum and the Yanggeum is as follows. The comparison upon the different melodies between the Gayageum and the Yanggeum was analyzed with the melody of Piri. The proportion of the different melody between Gayageum and the Yanggeum is decreasing step by step throughout the Yeominrak, which is applied to 12% to the chapter 1, 5% to the chapter 2, 2% to the chapter 3, 1% to the chapter 4, 1% to the chapter 5, 1% to the chapter 6, 1% to the chapter 7. I can find the proportion of the different tempo is decreasing from chapter 1〜3 which is changing point of the tempo, rapidly decreasing from chapter 4 with the fast tempo. Inside the different melodies I can find the equivalence and the similarities with the melody of Piri and the identity of the melody of Yanggeum. Throughout the analysis on the identity of the melody of Yanggeum, each instruments are making out the harmony in a cohesive relationship rather than dependent with each other. Sixth, the equivalent melody between the Gayageum and the Yanggeum is appled 84% to the 751 Deagang, including the similar melody as 6% (55 Deagang), the differentiated melody as 7% (61 Deagang). Both the equivalent and similar melodies appears a lot at the fast chapter including chapter 4 - 7 rather than the slow chapter including chapter 1 – 3. The traits of the similar and different melodies could be inferred very clearly due to the embedding and detailed characteristics inside the each other’s sub-conception. I feel sure this analysis can contribute to the innovative creation based upon the our own tradition. From the result of this research which checked out the close relationship between the Gayageum and the Yanggeum, The Gayageum player will find it not so hard to challenge the Yanggeum as a sub-major or the minor thanks to this kind of research, which will bring the modern way of playing out of the traditional music grammar through the role of string instrument at the Korean traditional music.
