Abstract
The process throuaround Jeong Namhui ․ Kim Yundeok ․ Hwang Byeong-gigh which Sanjo is transmitted and a school is formed is a very unique instruction which is rarely found in other musics. The Jeong Namhui Sanjo is a school which has been instructed differently in North and South Korea, after the Korean War, before which it had been transmitted from Kim Changjo through An Gi-ok to Jeong Namhui. In South Korea, the Jeong Namhui Sanjo is currently divided into three types: 'Jeong Namhui', 'Kim Yundeok' and 'Jeong Namhui-je Hwang Byeong-gi'. Moreover, although it is subdivided into many branches by each play in both North and South Korea, few researches of this subdivision are conducted. Thus, this paper aims to investigate mode of musical division of Sanjo by considering transmission phase and extended process of it around the Jeong Namhui Sanjo which affects both North and South Korea. Chapter II considers the transmission lineage of Jeong Namhui Sanjo in order to help understand this study. At first the source of Jeong Namhui is examined, and then the branches of Kim Yundeonk and Hwang Byeong-gi which have been transmitted to South Korea and Jeong Namhui Sanjo delivered to North Korea are verified. As the source of it, Saseung (learning from master) relationships from Kim Changjo-An Gi-ok to An Gi-ok-Jeong Namhui are reviewed, and the transmission process in South Korea is confirmed through Sasa (study under teacher) lineage from Jeong Namhui-Kim Yundeok to Jeong Namhui-Kim Yundeok-Hwang Byeong-gi. Thus, it is found that the Jeong Namhui Sanjo is placed at a very important position in the history of Sanjo music from early Sanjo to current one in both North and South Korea, and that status of Jeong Namhui as a musician also should be reconsidered. Chapter III comparatively analyses transmitted melodies in the Jeong Namhui Sanjo. On the basis of the Jeong Namhui Sanjo Kim Yundeok learned in 1947, the gramophone soundtrack recorded in 1934 and 1939, transmitted melody and other ones of Kim Yundeok and Hwang Byeong-gi which have been transmitted to South Korea are compared. For the Jeong Namhui Sanjo transmitted to South Korea, from Jinyangjo to Jungjungmori, over 40% of melody in sound source of 1939 is maintained and Jajinmori and Hwimori seem to be have more melody in sound source of 1934. Thus, the Jeong Namhui Sanjo already formed it frame in 1930s. It is concluded that while the melody from Jinyangjo to JungJungmori was gradually extended based on a base melody, new melodies were largely inserted into Jajinmori and Hwimori with increase of beats. From the comparison between the Jeong Namhui Sanjo transmitted to South Korea and two Sanjos of Kim Yundeok and Hwang Byeong-gi, it is demonstrated that both Sanjos are based on the former, whereas Hwang Byeong-gi used more common melody than did Kim Yundeok. While Kim Yundeok seems to have partly eliminated the existing melody of Jeong Namhui while inserting new melodies into Jinyangjo and Jungmori, he received most of the Jeong Namhui Sanjo from Jungjungmori to Danmori. Although Hwang Byeong-gi accommodated 100% of melodies in Jinyangjo, Hwimori and Danmori and over 90% of Jungmori and Jajinmori of Jeong Namhui, some parts of his existing melodies were eliminated in adding melody of a North Korean tape to it. From this analysis, it is concluded that the Jeong Namhui Sanjo created in 1934 and 1939 is the early one based on the melody instructed by An Gi-ok and the music produced in 1947 is the mid-term Sanjo in which he standardized his melody while instructing his students in the Sanjo. As the mid-term Sanjo was divided by North and South Korea, it experienced another change: In South Korea, most of mid-term melodies were accommodated, so followers could form a new school, whereas other form of the latter term Sanjo was instructed, which was different from mid-term one due to musical change in him in North Korea. Chapter IV analyses the extended melody of the Jeong Namhui Sanjo on the basis of the results of study on common one. It is examined by dividing it into three types: added melody, transformed melody and melody in which the original melody of Jeong Namhui was eliminated. The Kim Yundeok Sanjo which partly received assonance from Jeong Namhui and some tunes from Gang Taehong Sanjo, and to which a new created melody was added. And it exhibited more transformations of melody or eliminations than did Hwang Byeong-gi Sanjo. In addition, Hwang Byeong-gi Sanjo accommodated assonance from Jeong Namhui and some melodies from Gang Taehong Sanjo and North Korean tape and also exhibited a new melody. Entirely, while transformations and eliminations of original tunes of Jeong Namhui and accommodations of other Sanjos were prominent in the Kim Yundeok Sanjo, the Hwang Byeong-gi Sanjo contained more sufficient assonances of him from the gramophone soundtrack or North Korean tape. Thus, it is evaluated that Kim Yun deok followed the traditional method in which most of Sanjo players formed their schools by adding their own tunes to masters' ones, and Hwang Byeong-gi attempted a new approach to form the school by distinguishing musical foundations, while focusing on assonance of Jeong Namhui. Thus, each approach of their own created new tow schools with a common denominator, one common Sanjo. The Sanjo music has created a lot of schools with vitality based on improvisation. However, as the Sanjo is standardized in modern times, the formation of a new school is limited. The formation of school shown in transmission and extension of Jeong Namhui Sanjo may be a fresh breakthrough in stiff Sanjo music system. The three musicians showed the musical spirits the Sanjo should aim at by forming the schools with their own methods: Jeong Namhui spontaneously pursued changes through early-mid-latter term; Kim Yundeok created his own school by transmitting many Sanjos; Hwang Byeong-gi extended the Jeong Namhui Sanjo by focusing on musical foundation. The musical behaviors shown by them may be a clue for solving some problems and limitations the Sanjo music system today are faced with.;산조가 전승되고 유파가 형성되는 과정은 다른 음악에서 찾아보기 힘든 매우 독특한 전수 방법이다.
