종이의 폴드(Fold)이미지를 표현한 도자 제품디자인 연구

Abstract

예술가들은 종이를 표현 매체로 선택하여 재료로서의 인식에서 벗어나 그 자체가 하나의 예술품으로 평가될 수 있도록 표현한다. 그들은 종이의 특유의 질감, 형태, 색채 등의 독특한 표현 효과를 이용하여 평면에서 3차원적 입체조형까지 그 제작 범위의 확장을 보여주고 있다. 이러한 종이는 전달 가능한 독립성을 띠며 조형요소로써 강한 예술적 매체 역할을 한다. 종이의 조형성은 예술가들의 감성적인 측면과 융화되어 다양하게 표현되며, 그들의 감정에 따라 자유롭게 변화될 수 있는 가능성을 내포하고 있다. 따라서 본 연구자는 창작의 내면세계를 표출함에 있어서 다양한 표현이 가능한 종이를 선택하였다. 종이를 표현하는 과정 가운데 얻게 되는 폴드(Fold)기법의 입체적 구조와 상호 소통을 통해 입체화되는 도자 제품을 연구하였으며 폴드(fold)기법으로 인해 형성되는 구조와 종이의 장식적 요소를 통한 미(美)를 도자 제품으로 디자인 하고자 하였다. 재료와 기법의 실험 속에서 섬세한 표현이 가능한 종이를 이용해 다양한 연구를 시작하였고 폴드(Fold)기법의 구조적인 조형물 제작하였다. 접고 펼쳐지는 과정에서 반복적인 선들에 의한 리듬감뿐만 아니라 평면에서 입체적 형태로 변화는 유동적인 흐름의 생동감을 조형적인 형태의 표현기법으로 표현하였다. 이를 위해 연구자는 폴드(fold)를 디자인 요소로 응용한 패션과 건축, 도자 분야의 선행 작품들을 알아보았고, 그에 따른 재료의 분석과 입체적 형태와의 조형적 특성을 살펴봄으로써 연구자가 표현하고자 하는 제품으로서의 구조를 찾게 되었다. 이를 토대로 표현된 입체구조와 종이의 구체화 과정을 설명하였고, 형태의 표현방식을 체계적으로 분석하여 도자 제품으로써 보다 다양한 표현 가능성을 제시하였다. 즉, 작품제작에 앞서 다음과 같은 연구 방법을 적용하여 진행되었다. 첫째, 폴드(fold)의 개념과 여러 유형을 파악하고 구성원리와 구성방법에 따른 반복과 중첩의 특성을 연구하여 다양성을 제시하였다. 특히 구조에 따른 반복적, 교차적, 결합적 구조의 입체 효과를 중심으로 무한한 형태의 가능성을 이끌어 내고자 하였다. 둘째, 종이의 특성을 기초로 표현할 수 있는 다양한 구조를 분석해 평면에서 입체화로 구성하였고 사례연구를 통해 다른 작가들의 작품에서 폴드(fold)기법이 어떻게 표현되었는지 살펴보았다. 위와 같이 일련의 과정을 통해 종이를 이용한 도자 제품 디자인의 다양한 가능성을 제시하고자 하였으며, 나아가 현대 도자 제품 디자인 창출의 한 방법으로써 확대시켜 나가는데 그 의의를 두었다.;Artists selected paper as their medium of expression for it to become more than a mere base material and for it to be evaluated as an artwork itself. Paper displays expansive mode of production with its expressive effects regarding the unique textures, shapes and colors, as well as, its flat to three dimensional forms. Moreover, the independent sculptural element of paper allows it to deliver a message on its own, and acts as a strong artistic medium. The sculptural aspect of paper is displayed in a versatile manner by merging the emotional qualities, and has an innate potential to transform freely according to the individual’s sentiments. Thus, the present writer chose paper as a means to diversely render the inner world of creativity, and researched the ceramic products that became three dimensional forms through the correlation between the dimensional structures that were made by the fold technique achieved from the process of expressing the inner world. The present writer aims to design ceramic products that renders the beauty of dimensional forms produced by the fold technique and the decorative characteristics of the paper. From the experiments on materials and techniques, paper gained the most attention due to its ability of detailed expression. Thus, various experiments using paper were executed, which eventually led to the structural sculpture using the fold technique. During the process of folding and unfolding, the form not only gained a sense of rhythm from the repetitive lines but also the organic vitality that transforms a flat plane to three dimension. In that, this study will look into the previous works in fashion, architecture and ceramic utilizing the fold as a design element, and further examined the material analysis and the sculptural features in order to find the structure of the product the present writer wished to express. Moreover, the materialization process of three dimensional forms and paper based on this research will be explained, and versatile possibilities of rendering ceramic products will be suggested by systematically analyzing the expression methods of the forms. Prior to the production of the artworks, following research methods were applied. First, the aim is to suggest diversity by understanding the concept of the fold and the numerous types of fold, as well as, to explore its repetition and overlap qualities due to its compositional principle and compositional method. Especially, with the focus on the three dimensional effect of repetitional, intersectional and converging structure, the research tried to reveal the possibilities of infinite forms. Second, based on the characteristics of a paper, diverse structures were analyzed and composed from the flat plane into three dimensional forms, and the present study will explore how the fold technique was used in from the case studies of other artists. As stated above, through a set of procedures, this research aims to proposed diverse possibilities of ceramic products that utilize paper.
