Abstract
;The purpose of the study is to analyse Ludwig van Beethoven (1770~1827)'s life, the trend of the times when Beethoven actived and the all of his works including Piano sonatas, Concertos, Symphonies, and so on, and at the end, analyse the representative work of middle period . Beethoven connect Classicism with Romanticism and 32 piano sonatas are the evidence of Beethoven's role. One of the masterpiece of his 32 piano sonatas, includes general character of Beethoven's piano music. and, is a work that represents the middle period in Beethoven's career when he had built his own syle of musical expression Fist, Beethoven for the first time skipped repetition of exposition of the first movement in his piano sonatas. And he composed the second movement in variation style, and the third movement rondo style, and connected the two movement with Attacca. Second, Beethoven gave the unity through composing with three motives. motive A and motive B that have been presented in the first theme of the first movement have been used through all of the work, and the thematic melody of the second movement used the material of motive B of the first movement. Third, In most sonatas, while the first and second themes of each movements are in contrast with each other, in Op.57 the melody of the second theme of the first movement is the shape of an inversion of the first theme and the second theme follows the first theme in rhythmic and melodic form. In the third movement, the appearance of the motive A of the first movement is transformed and developed form. These composition techniques give the work a sense of unity through cyclic form among movements. Last, as compared with Classicism, Beethoven modulate keys frequently. so, this composition gives the work a remarkable dynamic. At this point, Beethoven both maintained a classical style of sonata based on the effect of Haydn and Mozart, and tried a change of style toward Romanticism through his creative musical skills.
