베토벤의 변주곡에 관한 연구 「프로메테우스 주제에 의한 15 변주곡 Op. 35」를 중심으로

Abstract

This thesis is about research of ｢15 Variations and fuga on Theme Prometheus Op. 35｣ by Ludwig van Beethoven(1770-1827). Piano variation is about altering various types of music by using melody, harmony, rhythm, tonality, and more depending on the time period. Beethoven developed instrumental music from Variations, which appeared from the Renaissance period, and contributed greatly to the development process. Beethoven, who is a composer representing classical period had introduced various types of variations. During this introduction, Beethoven used these variations for part of the instrumental music, Sonatas and Symphonies, and composed independent piano variations as well. To look carefully about how Beethoven was motivated to change and develope important composing skill, Beethoven’s overall musical work did not show brief variation composing skill. When analyzing『15 Variations and Fuga on Theme Prometheus』, it is composed differently from the other piano variations during that time period, and it’s musical hallmark is the appearance of theme and bass theme, as well as inserting Fuga into the variations. This thesis is about looking at Beethoven’s piano variations, and how his musical hallmark is presented.; 본 논문은 본인의 석사 과정 이수를 위한 졸업 연주회의 곡목 중 하나인 베토벤(Ludwig van Beethoven, 1770-1827)의 ｢프로메테우스 주제에 의한 15개의 변주곡 Op. 35｣에 대한 연구이다. 변주곡이라는 것은 하나의 주제를 가지고 선율, 화성, 리듬, 조성 등을 다양하게 변화시켜 새로운 음악을 만들어내는 중요한 작곡 기법으로 시대와 작곡자에 따라 다양하게 작곡 되었다. 르네상스 시대부터 나타난 변주곡은 16세기, 기악곡의 발달과 함께 더욱 발전하게 되는데 베토벤은 그 발전 과정에 중요한 기여를 하였다. 고전시기를 대표하는 작곡가인 베토벤은 다양한 작품에 변주곡을 도입하였는데 변주곡을 기악 소나타(Sonata)의 한 악장으로 사용하기도 하고 독립적인 변주곡(Variation)을 작곡하기도 했으며 실내악과 교향곡 등에서도 변주곡 형식을 사용하였다. 또한 작은 동기(motive)를 가지고 변화, 발전시키는 베토벤의 중요한 작곡기법을 살펴본다면 베토벤의 전체적인 작품에서 변주 작곡기법이 나타난다고 해도 과언이 아니다. ｢프로메테우스 주제에 의한 15개의 변주곡 Op. 35｣는 그 시대의 변주곡 작품들과는 다르게 새로운 방법으로 작곡되었으며 그 특징은 선율주제와 베이스주제, 즉 2가지 주제를 사용한다는 점과 Fuga를 변주곡에 삽입한다는 점이다. 흔히 우리가 알고 있는 변주곡은 하나의 주제를 가지고 그에 따른 변주가 구성이 되지만 이 곡은 베이스주제가 Introduzione col Basso del Tema로 먼저 제시되고 A due, A tre, A quattro로 점차 성부가 쌓여 나타난 후 선율주제가 제시되는 것이다. 또한 변주곡에 Fuga를 사용한다는 것은 매우 이례적인 일로 형식을 중요시 했던 베토벤에 의도를 알수 있다. 본 논문은 베토벤의 변주곡을 시기별로 나누어 시기별 특징과 음악적인 구성을 알아보고자 한다. 또한 ｢프로메테우스 주제에 의한 15개의 변주곡 Op. 35｣를 각 변주별로 나누어 주제와 화성, 리듬의 변화 등을 상세히 분석하여 베토벤의 음악적 특징이 어떻게 나타나고 있는지 살펴보고자 한다. 또한 이러한 연구를 통하여 연주자의 해석과 이해를 돕고자 한다.
