순환적 구조를 표현한 도자조형연구

Abstract

This study aims to understand the circulation which is universal truth of nature, and to express circulative structure that researcher thinks. Everything about nature is continuously repeated even though there is difference of the length. After day comes, night appears, then again day comes. Spring, summer, autumn, and winter, this cycle runs annually. Also, every living creature of the earth maintain their lives repeating creation through reproduction and extinction. These repetitions of nature are again repeated. By doing it continuously, beginning and end are becoming more ambiguous. This is 'circulation'. In the constant stream of time, the reason why nature maintains homeostasis is because the order of 'circulation' keeps it. The notion about circulation, operational law of nature, appears in the Eastern philosophies include Lao-tzu's 「Tao Te Ching」. Based on 「Tao Te Ching」, researcher studies circular idea and defines its concept. The features of circular concept by researcher's thought are ambiguous boundary, horizontal structure, endless change and movement. In the concept of circulation, boundaries are ambiguous; beginning-end, inside-outside, and up-down. When these boundaries fade out, everything in the world become equal and placed in the same level. In addition, all things do not stop, move and change continuously in this concept. It links to dynamic image. The researcher tries to visualize these characters of circulation through art works. The researcher makes repeated arrangement to visualize abstract concept of 'circular structure'. 'Circular structure' expressed in researcher's work is composed of double-wall, and repeated holes which interact each other placed all over the wall. There is no division of inside and outside in this structure. Also, it's organic form which makes people's sight moving around in and out constantly as well as air and space. The researcher expresses circular image to works by using organic form with lots of holes. Additionally, the researcher want to leave room behind for audience to accept the art pieces in their own ways depending on personal experience and intuition. Leaving some space for audience to embrace the works in other ways is another circulative element to communicate with them through the pieces.;본 논문은 연구자가 생각하는 자연의 보편적 진리인 순환에 대해 이해하고, 순환적 구조를 표현하는 연구이다. 자연의 모든 것은 주기가 짧고 길음에 차이가 있지만 끊임없이 반복한다. 아침이 오면 밤이 오고, 다시 아침이 오며, 봄, 여름, 가을, 겨울이 1년 단위로 되돌아온다. 또한 지구상의 모든 생명체들은 번식을 통한 생성과 소멸을 반복하며 쉼이 없이 생명을 유지해 나간다. 자연에서의 이러한 반복들은 다시 끊임없이 반복되며 반복이 거듭될수록 시작과 끝이 모호해지고 그것은 ‘순환’이 된다. 끊임없이 흐르는 시간 속에 자연이 ‘항상성’을 지닐 수 있는 것은 바로 ‘순환’이라는 질서 때문이다. 자연의 운행법칙인 순환에 대한 사유는 노자의 『도덕경』을 비롯한 동양 철학에서 잘 드러난다. 본 연구자는 『도덕경』에서의 순환적 사상을 연구하고, 이를 기반으로 본인이 생각하는 순환적 개념을 정리하였다. 연구자가 생각하는 순환적 개념의 특징은 경계의 모호함, 수평적 구조, 끊임없는 변화와 움직임이다. 순환적 개념에서는 처음과 끝, 안과 밖, 위와 아래와 같은 경계가 모호하다. 이러한 경계가 사라지게 되면 세상만물은 모두 평등해지고 동등한 위치를 갖게 된다. 또한 순환의 개념에서는 모든 만물은 정지해 있지 않고 끊임없이 움직이고 변화하는 동적인 이미지를 지닌다. 이러한 순환적 개념의 특징들을 시각화하여 작품에 표현하고자 하였다. 본 연구자는 이와 같은 순환이라는 추상적 개념을 시각화하기 위해 ‘순환적 구조’를 만들어 반복 배치하였다. 연구자의 작품에서 표현되는 ‘순환적 구조’는 이중벽의 구조로 이루어 졌으며 이중벽 곳곳에는 구멍이 반복적으로 뚫려 서로 소통하는 구조이다. 이 구조에서는 안과 밖의 구분이 없다. 또한 공기나 공간, 사람의 시선이 그대로 고여서 담겨있거나 멈춰있지 않고 끊임없이 나왔다 들어가며 흐르는 유기적인 형상이다. 이와 같이 수많은 구멍과 유기적 형상를 통해 순환적 이미지를 작품에 표현하고자 하였다. 작품을 보는 관람자가 작품의 수많은 구멍과 유기적 요소를 관람자들의 개인적 경험과 직관에 따라 연구자와 다른 해석과 관점으로 볼 수 있지만, 관람자가 각자의 방식대로 작품을 받아들일 수 있는 여지를 남겨두고자 한다. 이처럼 작품에 또 다른 해석의 가능성을 남겨두는 것은 작가와 관람자가 작품을 통해 소통하게 되는 또 하나의 순환적 요소라 생각하기 때문이다.
