영어권 한국어 학습자의 요청 화행에 나타난 언어적 전략과 비언어적 전략 연구

Abstract

본 연구는 한국어를 학습하는 영어권 학습자의 요청 화행의 비언어적 전략 사용 양상을 언어적 전략과의 상호 관계 안에서 살펴보고, 이를 한국인 모어 화자의 사용 양상과 비교하여 한국어 학습자의 언어적・비언어적 전략 사용의 특징을 분석하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 통해 한국어 학습자들이 요청 화행의 언어적 전략과 비언어적 전략을 얼마나 잘 이해하고 사용하는지에 대해 살펴보고, 한국어 교육에서 요청 화행의 언어적・비언어적 전략이 가지는 시사점에 대해 논하고자 하였다. 본 연구는 실험 참여자로 중급 이상의 영어권 한국어 학습자 20명과 한국인 모어 화자 20명을 선정하였으며, 화행의 실현 양상에 영향을 줄 수 있는 개인적 변수는 최대한 통제하여 역할극을 통해 실험을 진행하였다. 본 논문의 구성은 다음과 같다. Ⅰ장에서는 연구의 필요성 및 목적에 대해 서술하고 요청 화행과 비언어적 의사소통 이론의 선행 연구를 고찰함으로써 본 연구의 필요성을 확인하였다. Ⅱ장에서는 요청 화행과 비언어적 의사소통의 개념 및 특징에 대해 살펴보았다. Ⅲ장에서는 본 연구를 위한 자료 수집 방법을 제시하였다. 본 실험의 보완점 및 한계점을 확인하기 위해 예비실험을 실시하였고, 예비실험을 바탕으로 요청 화행의 비언어적 전략을 분석하기 위한 틀을 마련하였다. Ⅳ장에서는 본 실험에서 얻어진 결과를 통해 영어권 한국어 학습자와 한국인 모어 화자의 요청 화행 전략을 상황 별로 분석하였다. Ⅴ장에서는 연구 결과를 종합 분석하였다. 연구 결과 상황 별로 영어권 한국어 학습자와 한국인 모어 화자 간의 요청 화행 전략 양상에 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 전반적인 사용 양상을 놓고 봤을 때, 요청 화행의 언어적 전략과 이에 수반하여 함께 나타난 비언어적 전략 모두 영어권 한국어 학습자가 한국인 모어 화자에 비해 보다 직접적인 전략을 사용하는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 기존의 연구들이 주로 요청 화행의 언어적인 전략 사용 양상에 주목해왔던 것과 달리 언어적인 전략과 이에 수반하여 나타나는 비언어적인 전략을 함께 보고자 하였다는 점에서 의의를 가진다. 특히 비언어적 요청 전략을 분석하기 위해 예비 실험을 거쳐 나름의 분석틀을 마련하였다는 점에서도 본 연구의 의의를 찾을 수 있다.;This paper aims to identify the characteristics of English speaking Korean learners’ nonverbal communication observed in Korean request speech act, thereby adding richness to the discussion of importance of nonverbal communication education in Korean language classroom. To do this, it took a careful examination on the relatedness between the nonverbal communication and linguistic strategies used by English speaking Korean learners and compared this data with the ones employed by Korean native speakers. A role play was conducted to English speaking Korean learners whose proficiency was above intermediate level. The total number of participants was 20 for each group and the individual variables were controlled to ensure the reliability of the elicited data. This paper is divided into five parts. Referring to previous studies on the theory of nonverbal communication and papers on request speech act, Part I states the purpose of this paper and elaborates its necessity. Part 2 gives definitions on the concepts of request speech act and nonverbal communication. Part 3 describes the process of data elicitation used in this study. A pilot experiment was conducted, and an analysis table for nonverbal request strategies was established based on its result. Part IV situationally analyzes the nonverbal request strategies of English speaking Korean learners, comparing with the ones of Korean native speakers. Lastly, Part V accounts for the overall result of the study in a comprehensive manner. The result of the study shows that in Korean request speech act realized by the two different groups, there is a difference not only in the types of linguistic strategies but also in the types of the nonverbal request strategies which accompany the linguistic ones. For most part, English speaking learners were likely to employ more direct linguistic and nonverbal request strategies than Korean native speakers. This study distinguishes itself from the previous ones by taking a close look at both linguistic strategies and nonverbal strategies. In particular, this study tries to foster an analysis table for nonverbal request strategies throughout a pilot experiment.
