유희(遊戱)적인 필선(筆線)을 통한 비상(飛翔)

Abstract

Through out the history of man, people aspired the image of a sky. For example, they imagined themselves flying like a bird or like a cloud. Later on, science allowed people to fly but could not fulfill the desire to fly without any aid of instruments or devices. Notwithstanding this development, still it did not fulfill the desires of man to fly without any aid of devices or instruments. Thereafter, a number of artists expressed their desire by looking or modifying the concrete structure of flying organisms, such as birds and butterflies. In contrast, these school of people focused mainly to describe the dynamics of flying birds and also exerted to express the signs and traces of flying motion. This approach arose from the basic assumption of abstraction which omits, removes or simplifies an object. Then how could we define or describe the literal and symbolic meaning of "flying"? For main discussion of the thesis, it will be based on answering this question. In addition, symbolic meaning of "birds", which is the basic subject of flying, will be focused in oriental artistic point of view. Moreover, by looking at the interaction between art and play, the subjective meaning of the play like blush stroke will be determined. Here the trace or image of flying has been represented by single blush stroke. This trace is often found over the yellow field, tortuous pathway, green mountain, sporadically located houses and streams. It also found to be playing on clear blue sky or blank space, which implies the emptiness and endlessness. Mythologically, oriental stroke line was effective in describing the abstract image of flying because it used to symbolize the truth and the vividness of life. Therefore, the mental, symbolic meaning of line and also its application has been focused. By comparing the works of Mark Tobey, Franz Kline, Eung No Lee, Se Wok Seo, various methods of expressing the image of stroke and its prospects have been focused and researched. To express the image and traces of flying freely in the sky and grounds, various unrestricted focal point and oriental multiple points of view was necessary. Finally, through out the project, blank image was intentionally used to represent the extensive sky, continuously moving clouds and the flow of air. In conclusion, by analyzing and organizing the products through theoretical and methodological studies, I hope it will give another opportunity to develope and polish the mind and skills necessary in further studies of art. ;예로부터 사람들은 하늘을 동경해왔으며, 새와 같이 날개를 펴고 또는 구름을 타고 하늘을 자유로이 날아다니는 상상을 했었다. 그 후 과학의 발전으로 오늘날 인류가 하늘을 날 수 있게 되었지만 우리의 몸이 기구의 도움이 없이는 스스로 날 수 없을 만큼 무겁다는 사실은 비상하고자 하는 인간의 끝없는 욕망을 채워주지 못하였다. 그리하여 많은 예술가들은 비상이란 주제로 작품을 만들어왔다. 그러나 그들의 비상은 새, 나비와 같은 생명체의 모습 즉, 구상적인 형태의 접근을 통해 비상을 표현하고 있다. 본인은 이러한 새의 외형적인 형태에서 보여 지는 이미지의 재현에서 벗어나서, 새가 비상하는 순간의 역동성과 함께, 그 비상하는 새의 흔적과 자취만을 표현하고자 한다. 이것은 어떤 대상을 그 전체상에서 생략하고, 제거하고 정리하는 추상의 기본개념에 의한 것이었다. 이에 본인은 논문의 이론적 연구로 비상의 개념과 그 상징성을 살펴볼 것이다. 그리고 본인의 작품에서 비상의 주체가 되고 있는 새, 특히 새의 상징성을 동양의 관점으로 간략히 살펴보고자 한다. 또한 예술과 유희에 관하여 알아봄으로써 본인이 유희적인 필선을 표현함에 도움을 받고자 한다. 본인의 작품 속에서 비상의 흔적을 뜻하는 필선(筆線)은 채색으로 표현되고 있는 노란 밭, 꼬불꼬불한 길, 연두색 산, 드문드문 보이는 집, 그리고 시냇물 위를 자유로이 날아 흔적을 남긴다. 그리고 이 필선(線)은 파란 하늘, 끝이 없는 무한한 공간인 여백 속으로 어지러이 날아다니며 노닐기도 한다. 이와 같은 새의 흔적과 함께 자유로이 비상하는 모습을 추상화된 작품으로 제작함에 있어서 대상의 진실함과 그 생명력을 표현하는 동양화의 선(線)이 가장 효과적이라고 간주하였다. 그리하여 방법적 연구에서 선(線)의 정신성과 상징성, 그리고 선의 운용에 대해 살펴볼 것이다. 그리고 선(線)을 사용하여 추상작업을 한 마크토비, 프란츠 클라인 그리고 이응노와 서세옥을 그들의 작품과 작품세계를 중심으로 간략히 살펴봄으로써, 추상회화에서의 선의 다양한 표현과 그 가능성을 알아보고자 한다. 다음으로는 하늘과 땅에서 자유롭게 날아다니는 비상의 움직임과 흔적을 표현하고자 하는 본인의 의도에 맞추어 고정된 시각에서 벗어나 새와 같이 자유로이 움직이는 이동시점이 필요하게 되었다. 그리하여 본인은 동양의 다시점(多視點)에 대해 살펴볼 것이다. 그리고 마지막으로 여백(餘白)에 대하여 다루고자 하는데, 이것은 본인의 작품에서 끝없이 높고 넓은 하늘, 끊임없이 움직이는 구름과 공기의 흐름으로 무한한 공간을 암시해 보이고자 한 것이다. 이와 같은 이론적, 방법적 연구를 바탕으로 본인의 작업들을 정리하고 분석해가는 과정을 통해 보다 넓은 시각을 갖고 앞으로 더욱 더 발전할 수 있는 기회가 될 것이라 기대한다.
