창작춤집단 가관의 작품 「토끼의 간」에 관한 연구

Abstract

본 연구는 무용작품에 있어서 공연 공간의 차이에 따른 작품의 해석과 의미의 변화를 연구한 것이다. 창작춤집단 가관의 작품「토끼의 간」을 관객 참여의 측면에서 분석하였다. 본 연구는 사례연구법과 작품분석법을 사용하였다. 사례연구법으로 가관의 창립배경과 맥락 그리고 성격을 규명하였다. 작품 분석법으로는 에드쉐드의 무용작품분석법을 적용하여 작품의 내적 요인과 사회 문화적 맥락을 종합적으로 분석하였다. 1997년 창단한 창작춤집단 가관은 한국 주류 무용계의 엘리티즘에 저항하여, 인간은 누구나 춤을 출 수 있다는 신념을 바탕으로 대중과의 소통을 적극적으로 도모한 무용단체이다. 본 논문의 연구대상인 작품「토끼의 간」은 2006년 문화일보홀에서의 초연을 시작으로 2007년에는 LIG아트홀, 2008년에는 야외축제에서 재창작되어 공연하였다. 가관은 관객과의 소통을 위해 세 차례의 공연을 ‘공연 공간’에 따라 안무를 달리해서 발표했다. 프로시니엄 중극장에서는 안무의 완성도와 기교 중심으로 공연이 이루어졌고, 창고형 극장인 소극장에서는 관객과의 눈높이를 맞출 수 있는 무대를 활용하여 간단한 동선의 반복으로 구성하였다. 야외공연에서는 관객을 작품에 참여시켜 관객과의 소통과 공감을 이끌어냈다. 이로서 본 연구에서는 ‘공연 공간’의 차이에 의해서 동일한 작품이라 할지라도 작품의 의미와 해석 그리고 관객의 참여도가 달라진다는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 이러한 시도를 통해 가관은 보여주는 춤과 참여하는 춤, 공연자와 관객, 무대와 객석간의 간극을 좁히고 양쪽의 통합을 이루어 내려고 하였다. 본 활동을 계기로 작품「토끼의 간」은 대중친화적 가능성을 보여준 레퍼토리가 되었다. 따라서, 본 연구는 ‘공연 공간’이 갖는 다양성을 인식하고 여러 방식으로 공연자와 관객이 소통하고 함께 하는 공연을 연구하는데 참고가 되기를 바란다.;This study aims to analyze the semantic change in connection with different performance spaces focusing on audience’s participation in the case of Creative Dance Group Gagwan’s Hare’s Liver. In a dance performance, different performance spaces affect the choreography, the synopsis, the stage art and the music of the performance. To explore the semantic and interpretative change in relation to different performance spaces is the aim of this study. This study employs both case study method and dance analysis as its methodology. The case study method is used to investigate the background and the context of Gagwan’s foundation and its characteristic. Janet Adshead-Lansdale’s Dance Analysis is applied to comprehensively analyze the internal factors and the sociocultural context of Hare’s Liver. Founded in 1997, Creative Dance Group Gagwan resists the elitism of the mainstream Korean dance scene. Based on the belief that anyone can dance, they have actively promoted the idea of communication with the masses. Hare’s Liver was debuted at Munhwailbo Hall in 2006. Since then, Hare’s liver had been re-created and presented at LIG Art Hall in 2007 and various outdoor festivals in 2008. Gagwan had changed its choreography each time in accordance with the performance space for better communication with the audience. While the completeness of the choreography and the technique were emphasized at the proscenium theater, the repetition of simple moving lines were composed to exploit the stage at eye level with the audience at the black box theater. In the open air, having the audience involved in the dance evoked communication and empathy from the audience. Thus, this study confirms that the difference of the performance space alters the meaning, the interpretation and the audience participation of a dance. With such attempt, Gagwan tried to bridge the gap between performance dance and participation dance, dancers and viewers, and stage and audience. Hare’s Liver later became representing the possibility of feminist dance’s popularization. The writer hopes that this study provides a good guide to those who seek the understanding of the diversity of performance space and who research dances, in which dancers and viewers interact with each other.
