영화를 감상한 고등학생들의 글쓰기에 나타난 생명윤리 관점 및 의사결정 유형 분석

Abstract

With the developed new scientific technology, there are more positive aspects that emerging from the quality of life. However, as this development is related to several areas such as economics, society of politics, it seems like there are more issues of ethics and morality. To solve these problems, students should be encouraged to have a reasonable decision making. The movies could increase the sensitivity of social problems and help for careful decision making by allowing for an indirect experiences. The subject were 11th grade students in Seoul, 70 people watching movies, and writing classes for four periods. Writing data to the class based on the activity sheets Halverson, Siegel & Freyermuth (2009) and Sadler and Zeidler (2005), based on the decision making types were analyzed. In this study, data processing is analyzed using SPSS 22.0. The results and conclusion of this study are as follows. First, 47 out of 70 students(67.15%) wrote letters to ANNA who is the designer baby and 18 students(25.71%) chose SARA(ANNA'S MOM) and 5 students(7.15%) decided to write letters to KATE(leukemia patient) however, regardless of their choice, there were 65 students(92.9%) who disagreed to designer baby, and 5 students(7.15%) who agreed to designer baby this result indicates that the majority of students had a negative opinion in designer baby. Second, from the analysed results, it could be seen that the actual movie story affected the students' thought by emphasizing on the right and ethics of designer baby. The rights and ethical point of view were shown prominently. Because the plot of the film is focused the side of the designer baby's right and ethical point. Thus, the students were learning empathy-oriented perspective. Third, the high school students' bioethics perspective of a designer baby reflected in their decision-making after class was found to be diverse in the order of perspective of society(52.2%), perspective of ethics(40.6%), perspective of medicine(26.1%), perspective of medicine(11.6%), perspective of rights(8.7%), individual perspective(4.3%), perspective of economy(4.3%), and perspective of religion(2.9%). Students, in time of making a final decision, were found to reflect the perspective of society about a designer baby the most, thus showing a significant decline in the perspective of rights after seeing the movie. Such a finding makes it possible to presume that critical thinking, such as a negative & positive perspectives of scientific technologies through argumentation basis suggested in class, had an influence on students in time of their final decision-making. Fourth, the analysis result of high school students' decision-making type in relation to a designer baby subject showed that 47 students(67.1%) had a rational thinking type, 11 students (15.7%)had an emotional thinking type, and 2 students(2.9%) had an intuitive thinking type. In addition, 10 students(4.3%) were found to have a complex thinking type mixed with rational/emotional type while 2 students(2.9%) were found to have a thinking type mixed with rational/intuitive type. Like this, it's possible too judge that the high school students make a decision on a designer baby in a rational thinking type. On the basis of this research, this study can make a suggestion as follows: First, it's necessary to do follow-up research on diverse subjects as this study looked into students' perspective and decision-making type in relation to their perspective of bioethics on the subject of a designer baby. Second, it's important to select a movie whose perspective of bioethics is proper for educational purposes when conducting classes using a movie. This study thinks that a movie, which expresses the currently occurring diverse controversial situations of bioethics in a desirable direction, could be helpful to high school students' critical decision-making.;첨단 과학기술의 발달로 인해 우리 삶의 질을 높일 수 있는 긍정적인 측면이 부각되고 있으나 과학기술의 발전이 경제, 사회, 정치 등 여러 영역과 관련이 있어 자주 도덕적이고 윤리적인 문제를 발생시킨다. 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위하여 학생들은 합리적인 의사결정이 필요하다. 영화라는 매체는 사회적 이슈에 대하여 민감성을 높여줄 수 있으며 간접적인 체험을 가능하게 함으로써 보다 신중한 의사결정에 도움을 줄 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 영화를 활용하여 글쓰기에 나타난 고등학생들의 맞춤형 아기에 대한 생명윤리 관점과 수업 후 학생들이 최종 의사결정시 사용한 사고유형을 분석하였다 연구대상은 서울에 소재한 한 고등학교 2학년 학생 70명이며, 영화감상 및 글쓰기 수업 4차시를 하였다. 수업 활동지의 글쓰기 자료를 바탕으로 Halverson, Siegel & Freyermuth(2009)의 생명윤리 관점과 Sadler와 Zeidler(2005)의 추론 형태에 근거하여 자료를 분석하였다. 본 연구 자료의 처리는 SPSS 22.0을 이용하여 빈도 분석하였다. 본 연구의 결과 및 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 맞춤형 아기에 관한 영화를 감상한 후 고등학생들은 편지글의 대상으로 맞춤형 아기인 ‘안나’ 47명(67.15%), 맞춤형 아기의 엄마인 ‘사라’ 18명(25.71 %), 백혈병에 걸린 환자인 ‘케이트’ 5명(7.15%)순으로 선택하여 편지글을 썼다. 편지글의 대상으로 누구를 선택하든 대부분의 학생 65명(92.9%)은 맞춤형 아기에 대해 부정적인 입장을 나타내는 것으로 드러났다. 둘째, 고등학생들이 각 등장인물에게 쓴 편지글에 나타난 맞춤형 아기에 대한 생명윤리 관점은 권리의 관점 (54.3%), 윤리의 관점 (35.8%), 개인의 관점 (6.2%), 의학의 관점 (3.7%)순으로 나타났다. 학생들이 타 관점에 비하여 권리와 윤리의 관점이 두드러지게 나타난 것은 영화의 줄거리가 맞춤형 아기의 권리 및 윤리의 측면을 드러낸 것이 원인으로 작용한 것으로 여겨진다. 따라서 학생들은 영화 속 등장인물의 입장에 감정 이입을 하여 그러한 영화 속 관점 위주의 학습을 한 것으로 생각할 수 있다. 셋째, 고등학생들이 수업 후 최종 의사결정에 나타난 맞춤형 아기에 대한 생명 윤리 관점은 사회의 관점(52.2%), 윤리의 관점(40.6%), 의학의 관점(26.1%), 과학의 관점(11.6%), 권리의 관점(8.7%), 개인의 관점(4.3%), 경제의 관점(4.3%), 종교의 관점(2.9%)순으로 다양하게 나타났다. 최종 의사결정시 학생들은 맞춤형 아기에 대하여 사회의 관점을 가장 많이 반영하는 것으로 나타나 영화를 본 후 나타난 권리의 관점은 현저히 줄어들었다. 이는 수업시간에 제시된 논증 근거에 의해 과학 기술에 대한 부정적인 관점 및 긍정적인 관점 등 비판적 사고가 최종 의사결정시 학생들에게 영향을 준 것으로 추정할 수 있다. 넷째, 고등학생의 의사결정유형을 분석한 결과 맞춤형 아기 주제에 대하여 이성적 사고유형이 47명(67.1%)로 나타났고, 감정적 사고 유형이 11명(15.7%), 직관적 사고 유형이 2명(2.9%)으로 나타났다. 그리고 이성적․감정적 혼합형태의 사고 유형이 10명(14.3%), 이성적․직관적 혼합형태의 사고 유형이 2명(2.9%)으로 복합적 유형이 나타나기도 하였다. 이와 같이 고등학생들은 맞춤형아기에 대해서는 주로 이성적인 사고 유형으로 의사결정을 하는 것으로 판단할 수 있다. 본 연구의 제언은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 본 연구는 맞춤형 아기 주제에 대한 학생들의 생명윤리에 대한 관점 및 의사결정의 유형을 알아본 것이므로 다양한 주제에 대한 후속 연구가 필요하다. 둘째, 영화를 활용한 수업 시 생명윤리 관점이 교육용으로 적합한 영화의 선정이 중요하다. 현재 발생하고 있는 다양한 생명 윤리 쟁점 상황을 영화에서 바람직한 방향으로 표현하고 있는 것이 고등학생의 비판적인 의사결정에 도움을 줄 것이다.
