한국 중년남성의 배우자와의 여가활동과 삶의 만족도의 관계

Abstract

본 연구의 목적은 중년남성의 배우자와의 여가활동과 삶의 만족도의 관계에 대해 이해하며, 이러한 관계에서 배우자를 통한 자아확장과 결혼만족도가 미치는 매개효과를 검증하는데 있다. 연구대상자는 한국에 거주하는 만44세에서 만64세 사이의 남성으로 총 189명의 자료가 연구 분석에 사용되었다. 배우자와의 여가활동 정도와 배우자를 통한 자아확장, 결혼만족도, 삶의 만족도는 자기보고식 설문을 통해 서면으로 측정되었다. 본 연구에서는 선행연구에 기초하여, 배우자와의 여가활동이 배우자를 통한 자아확장, 결혼만족도, 삶의 만족도와 직접적인 관련이 있으며, 배우자와의 여가활동이 배우자를 통한 자아확장과 결혼만족도를 통해 삶의 만족도를 예측하는 이중매개모형을 설정하였다. Hayes(2012)가 제안한, 표본 수가 작은 경우 이중매개를 검증 할 수 있는 방법인 순차적 중다매개효과를 실시하였으며, 간접효과를 검증하기 위해 부트스트래핑(Bootstrapping)을 실시하였다. 먼저 배우자와의 여가활동, 배우자를 통한 자아확장, 결혼만족도, 삶의 만족도의 상관을 검증한 결과, 이 네 변인은 모두 정적으로 관련이 있었으며, 배우자와의 여가활동과 삶의 만족도의 관계에서 배우자를 통한 자아확장과 결혼만족도의 이중매개효과가 나타났다. 구체적으로, 배우자와의 여가활동과 삶의 만족도간의 관계를 배우자를 통한 자아확장과 결혼만족도가 순차적으로 매개하는 순차적 매개효과가 나타났다. 또한, 배우자와의 여가활동은 배우자를 통한 자아확장과 정적인 관련이 있고, 이를 통해 높은 삶의 만족도를 예측하였다. 마찬가지로, 배우자와의 여가활동은 결혼만족도를 통해 삶의 만족도를 예측하였다. 하지만 배우자와의 여가활동 자체만으로는 삶의 만족도를 유의미하게 예측하지 못했다. 본 연구는 중년남성들의 배우자와의 여가활동과 중년남성들의 삶의 만족도간의 관계를 살펴보았고, 여가활동을 배우자와 함께 한다는 자체가 삶의 만족도와 직접적인 관계가 있는 것이 아니라, 배우자를 통한 자아확장과 결혼만족도를 거쳐 간접적으로 관계가 있음을 밝혔다. 이를 통하여, 인생의 전환점을 맞는 중년의 나이에 들어선 한국의 남성들에게 있어 배우자와의 여가활동의 중요성, 또한 배우자와의 여가활동과 삶의 만족도가 구체적으로 어떠한 경로를 통해 관계가 있는지를 살펴 볼 수 있었다. 본 연구는 중년남성들의 삶의 만족도와 배우자와의 관계에 대한 이해를 확장하며, 자아확장이라는 새로운 매개변인을 제시했다는데 의의가 있다.;This study examines the relationship between leisure with spouses and life satisfaction among middle-aged Korean men along with the mediating effects of self-expansion and marital satisfaction. The data were collected through a written survey with 189 middle-aged men in Korea whose ages are between 44 and 64. The age range of 44 to 64 of targeted middle-aged men in this study was determined based on previous research conducted among middle-aged men. After investigating previous studies among leisure with spouses, life satisfaction, self-expansion, and marital satisfaction, the multiple mediation model was set up. The hypotheses are as below. Leisure with spouses will predict life satisfaction among middle-aged men. Also, the effects of leisure with spouses on life satisfaction will be mediated through both self-expansion and marital satisfaction. In order to examine the relationships between variables, multi-mediating effects were identified through a test, multiple mediation model operating in serial, proposed by Hayes(2012). Then, a bootstrapping method was performed to confirm the significance of indirect effects through using SPSS Macro program developed by Hayes(2012). The research findings are as follows: first, there were positive correlations among leisure with spouses, life satisfaction, self-expansion, and marital satisfaction. Second, self-expansion and marital satisfaction had significant mediating effects between leisure with spouses and life satisfaction. Specifically, leisure with spouses had a statistically significant indirect effect on life satisfaction through either self-expansion and marital satisfaction. Also, leisure with spouses had statistically significant indirect effects on life satisfaction through self-expansion and marital satisfaction in that order. If self-expansion and marital satisfaction do not mediate the relationship between leisure with spouses and life satisfaction, leisure with spouses does not predict life satisfaction. Thus, it can be inferred that leisure with spouses is related to life satisfaction only if the effect of leisure with spouses on self-expansion or marital satisfaction is valid. In conclusion, this study confirmed that leisure with spouses is important for middle-aged Korean men in terms of life satisfaction when it predicts self-expansion and marital satisfaction. Lastly, the implications and the limitations of this study are discussed.
