남성도박중독자의 재발 경험

Abstract

The objective of this study is examining the relapse experience of male gambling addict in the viewpoint of gambling addicts and revealing the meaning of phenomenon they experienced while gambling again. The author examined how the relapse experience of male gambling addicts appeared in Korea and what meaning the male gambling addicts give to the relapse experience by themselves. The phenomenological study question for accomplishing the goal of this study is ‘what is the meaning and essence of the relapse experience of male gambling addicts?’ The meaning of male pathological gamblers’ experience of relapse was ‘falling into the abyss of death.’ As a result of doing the reflective consideration after extracting the meaningful sentences as to the relapse experience of male gambling addicts and through general meaning forming and theme binding, 17 subcomponets, and 7 components were deduced. 7 components on the relapse experiences of gambling addicts are mutually related in the temporal dimension. The 7 components are ‘I don’t believe that I am a pathological gambler though I have gambled,’ ‘I am thrown out of the world,’ ‘I have fallen into a deeper pit,’ ‘I’ve lost my original identity,’ ‘I have begun my life out of gamble,’ ‘I have fallen deeper though I withstand on the very last of my strength to live,’ and ‘I only have my thread of life.’ The relapse experience of the gambling addicts and its meaning revealed through the result above will be helpful to expanding the understanding of the relapse experience of the gambling addicts. Also, they will be able to contribute to looking for the specific intervention strategy for the relapse prevention and relapse management through the relapse experiences of the participants.;본 연구의 목적은 남성 도박중독자의 재발경험을 도박중독자의 관점에서 깊이 있게 탐색함으로써, 이들이 재발을 하면서 경험한 현상의 의미를 밝혀내고 재발을 방지하기 위한 실천적 개입 전략을 제시하는 데 있다. 이에 도박중독자의 재발 경험이 어떻게 나타나고 도박중독자 스스로 재발경험에 대해 어떤 의미를 부여하는지 살펴보았다. 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위한 현상학적 연구 질문은 ‘남성 도박중독자의 재발 경험의 의미와 본질은 무엇인가’이다. 연구참여자들의 일상적인 용어로 구성된 의미단위 들을 학문적 용어로 전환하는 과정을 거쳐 총 7개의 구성요소와 17개의 하위구성요로로 통합되어 구조화되었다. 이러한 재발경험의 구성요소는 7가지로 <도박은 했어도, 중독자라 믿지 않음>, <세상밖으로 내쳐짐>, <더 깊은 나락으로 추락함>, <본래의 정체성이 소멸됨>, <도박을 벗어나 다시 시작함>, <살기위해 악을 써도 더 깊이 빠져버림 >, <목숨만 남은 삶>으로 나타났다. 본 연구를 통해 드러난 남성 도박중독자의 재발경험은 <죽음의 심연 속으로 추락함>으로 비유되었다. 도박중독자의 재발경험은 “ 살아나가기 위해 죽을힘을 다해 벽을 기어오르지만, 점점 더 나락으로 떨어지는 ” 경험이었다. 본 연구의 결과는 도박중독자의 재발경험에 대한 이해를 확장시키는데 도움이 될 것이다. 또한 참여자들의 재발경험을 통해, 재발 방지 및 재발 관리를 위한 구체적인 개입 전략을 모색하는데도 기여할 수 있을 것이다.
