산호의 조형성을 응용한 니트웨어(Knit Wear) 디자인 연구

Abstract

Knitwear has developed from the birth of human civilization. In people’s life, it has been used commonly in clothes, accessories, and daily necessities. Knitted fabric is a useful textile that has great elasticity and temperature protection and also a medium that inspires designers. In modern society, its use has expanded enormously. Many knitting machines and techniques have been invented so far, and development and processing methods of various threads have led knitted fabric to limitless creativity. This study chose the marine ecosystem, especially coral, among various aesthetics from the nature. Coral is used widely as a material for jewelry and accessories, but also is recreated diversely as a subject of aesthetic expression in various artistic fields. The purpose of this study is to aesthetically analyze the natural beauty of coral and use it to expand the expressions of knitwear design in terms of change of color or structural forms based on the colors, lines, and textures of coral. The research method included relevant domestic and overseas publication, previous literature, and websites in order to review the theoretical background of coral, and also designs and fashion collections using coral images. In addition, relating to artwork production, the concept, history, types, characteristics and differences in technique were examined, as well as designs according to knitting techniques based on fashion collections. Based on the theoretical background, total six designs using the aesthetical attributes and colors of coral were created. In this study, the following conclusions were made: First, by analyzing the aesthetical attributes of coral, it was possible to design knitwear based on the intrinsic beauty, structural form, visual and tactile texture, and colors of coral with various techniques and methods. Second, for expressing coral colors 6 degrees or higher, it was impossible to knit colors that were 5-6 degrees or higher when using a machine. However, various colors of coral could be expressed with multi-color gradation by dying threads. However, dyed threads changed the colors completely according to the length of the dyed thread or width of the knitted fabric. Third, tangent lines of horn coral and texture of coral could be reproduced by using tubular jacquard. Fourth, using 1x1 Rib altered tissue and waffle altered tissue in the computer machine knitting made it possible to reproduce the surface texture of coral. Fifth, hand knitting with a hooked needle enabled diverse and free expression of various colors and structural forms of corals by changing the material and shapes. Sixth, for clothes, although it is possible to hand-knit using a hooked needle, machine knitting, or tubular jacquard on its own, mixing these techniques allowed more diverse designs and expressions. Such integration of knitting techniques can give high added-values to knitwear design. The findings of this study indicate that analysis of aesthetic characteristics of coral can lead to various approaches to knitwear design. In the future, based on inspiration that can lead to limitless artistic values of coral, research on high-added value products can be expanded by various tissue development and material use.;니트는 인류의 문명이 발생 된 이후 함께 발전 해왔다. 인류의 생활에서 의류, 장신구, 생활용품 등 꾸준하고 깊숙한 존재로 함께 해왔다. 니트는 신축과 보온성이 높고 기능적인 활용도가 좋아 인류에게 유익함을 주는 직물이며 또한 작가에게 영감을 주는 매개체로서 현대의 니트는 그 활동분야가 폭발적으로 넓어지고 있다. 현재까지 더욱 많은 니트 기계와 편직 기법들이 발명 되었으며, 다양한 실의 개발과 가공법으로 니트는 무궁무진한 창조의 영역으로 들어서고 있다. 본 연구에서는 다양한 자연에서 얻을 수 있는 조형미 중 바다 속 생태계에 관심을 두었고, 바다 속 생태계의 중심에 있는 산호에 대한 탐구를 하였다. 산호는 보석과 귀중품의 재료로 널리 사용되기도 하지만 고유한 독특한 조형미로 여러 예술 분야에서 미적 표현의 대상이 되어 예술적 기조로 다양하게 재창조 되고 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 산호의 자연미를 조형적으로 분석하여 선, 색채, 형태, 질감들을 니트 조직의 표현, 색상의 변화, 니트웨어의 구조적 형태 등 니트웨어 디자인의 표현 영역을 확대하는데 있다. 연구의 내용 및 방법은 연구 방법으로는 산호에 대한 이론적 배경을 고찰하기 위해 국내외 전문 서적과 선행 연구자료, 인터넷 웹사이트 등을 활용하였으며 산호 이미지를 이용한 디자인 사례와 패션 컬렉션을 살펴보았다. 또한 작품제작과 관련하여 니트의 개념 및 역사, 니트 종류별 특징과 기법에 따른 차이 등을 살펴보았으며, 니트 기법에 따른 디자인 사례를 패션 컬렉션을 중심으로 살펴보았다. 본 연구는 이와 같은 이론적 배경을 토대로 산호의 조형성과 색채를 응용한 니트웨어 디자인 작품 총 6점을 제작하였다. 본 연구에서 얻은 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 산호의 조형미를 분석하여 산호의 선적적인 조형미와, 구조적 형태미, 시각적․촉각적 질감, 색채를 다양한 방법과 기법으로 니트웨어를 디자인 할 수 있었다. 둘째, 산호의 6도 이상의 색을 표현함에 있어서 기계로 편직 할 시 5~6도 이상의 색 편직이 불가능 하였다. 그러나 실의 염색을 통한 다 색상 그라데이션으로 산호의 다양한 색상 표현이 가능하였다. 그러나 염색하여 사용한 실은 염색된 색상의 길이에 따라, 또는 니팅 되는 원단의 폭에 따라 색의 표현이 완전히 달라짐을 알 수 있었다. 셋째, 튜블러 카자드를 이용하여 뿔산호의 조형미인 절선의 표현과 함께 산호의 표면질감을 함께 나타낼 수 있었다. 넷째, 산호의 촉각적 질감을 표현하기 위해 컴퓨터 기계 니트에서 1×1 Rib 변형조직 및 와플 변형 조직으로 으로 산호의 표면적 질감표현이 가능하였다. 넷째, 핸드니트의 코바늘 뜨기는 소재의 다양함과 모양의 변형에 있어 자유롭고 다양하게 표현 할 수 있어서 산호류의 다양한 색채와 화려한 구조적 형태를 자유로운 표현이 가능하였다. 다섯째, 의상에서 핸드니트의 코바늘 뜨기와, 기계니트, 튜블러 자카드를 단일 기법으로 사용도 가능하지만 이들 모두의 기법을 복합적으로 혼합하여 사용함으로써 더욱 다양한 디자인과 표현이 가능하였다. 이러한 니트의 여러 가지 복합적 기법을 사용함으로써 니트웨어 디자인에 고부가가치 요소를 부여할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 산호의 조형적 특징을 분석하여 다양한 접근 방법으로 니트웨어를 디자인 할 수 있음을 알 수 있었다. 앞으로 산호에 대한 무한한 예술적 가치로 승화 될수 있는 영감의 근본으로 다양한 조직 개발과 소재사용으로 고부가가치 상품에 대한 연구가 확대되기를 기대해본다.
