자아 인식 표현에 관한 도자 조형 연구

Abstract

칸딘스키는 ‘예술은 자기 고유의 형식으로써, 사물에서 심성에 이르는 말을 주고받는 언어’라고 했다. 이는 예술가의 사고가 심상 표현의 대상이 된다는 것을 의미하며, 더 나아가 예술은 자아를 둘러싼 외적 관계와 자신의 생에 대한 내면의식의 미적 표현임을 나타낸다. 그렇기 때문에, 자아 인식은 예술 활동의 선행요건이며, 자아에 대한 관심과 인식은 예술가들에겐 끊임없는 작업의 동기와 원천이 되어 왔다. 예술가가 스스로의 자아를 투영해내기 때문에 자화상은 단순한 외양의 묘사에만 그치는 것이 아니라 예술가의 삶의 흔적과 인간적 면모 등이 드러난다. 이렇게 자신의 근원을 독창적으로 정의 내리며 창조적 충동을 작품으로 표현해냈을 때, 그것이 바로 예술가 자신이 된다. 예술가는 이러한 일체감에서 쾌락과 만족을 느끼며 작업을 계속해 나아가는 원동력을 얻는다. 본 연구는 연구자의 자화상이자 분신인 마틸다(Mathilda)를 세워 연구자의 자아 인식과 공감을 표현한 도자 조형 연구이다. 연구자는 스스로 자아에 대한 성찰의 시간을 갖고 이를 표현하는 작업을 진행했으며, 이 화자(마틸다)에게 드레스라는 특징을 부여하여 지극히 주관적인 이야기에 통일성을 주고, 연구자 자아의 특징적인 성향을 부각시켜 표현하였다. 본인의 개인적인 경험을 기본으로 하되, 일부는 신화, 동화 등의 공감을 일으키기 쉬운 대중적 인물들에게서 모티프를 얻어 작품을 전개해 나갔다. 기법적으로는 노벨티를 선택하여 작업의 기법 또한 연구자의 성향과 상통함을 인지하였다. 정밀하고, 사실적인 표현이 가능한 이 제작 기법을 통해 전하고자 하는 메시지를 효과적으로 나타내고자 하였다. 본 연구자는 이 연구를 통해 장식용품으로 인식되던 노벨티의 역할을 확장하여 상징적이고 고유한 표현 방식으로 채택함으로써, 예술 표현의 한 방법으로서의 노벨티의 발전 가능성을 제시하고자 하였다. 연구자는 이 연구에서 내면세계에 내재하는 모든 종류의 감성과 이성, 경험과 느낌 등을 도자 조형 작업으로 표현했다. 인간이 지니는 복잡하고 다양한 내면세계를 자화상이라는 다분히 외적인 형상에 투영시켜, 예술가로써 자신이 창조한 것을 통하여 스스로를 발견하고 자기에의 진실성과 대면하고자 하였다.;Kandinsky once said "art is a unique form itself, and is a language to reach out from material to minds." This means that an artist's thoughts are converted into an object of expression, and moreover, art is an expression of exterior relationships and of the life of an artist. Therefore, discovering one's ego - a necessary condition of any artistic activities and the fundamental of establishing one's artistic views - has been an endless motivation for, and source of artists' works. Self-portrait not only depicts the outer looks of an artist, but also his(or her) traits of life and inner self. Defining one's origins and converting the creative desire into forms of art like described above, artists define and express themselves. It's in this sense of unity that artists feel happiness and satisfaction, and that they gain the power to keep on with their works. This study based on Mathilda, the conductor's persona, examines the conductor's cognition and sympathy through ceramic molding. Also, for an overall unity of a rather subjective topic of self awareness, and for the conductor's convenience, dress was the choice for the main theme. On the top of that, the works are based on the conductor's personal experiences, with some bits derived from myths and fables, for the audiences' sympathy. On the methodological side, the conductor chose Novelty for a detailed and realistic expression and effective delivery of her message. Moreover, by expanding the roles of Novelty from an ornament to a vessel to transport symbolism and uniqueness in this study, the conductor attempted to propose a possibilities of Novelty as a means of artistic expressions. In this study, the conductor expressed every aspect of her inner side - her sensibility, rationality, life experience, and feelings - through ceramic molding. By projecting complex and various inner sides of humans through a rather external form, the conductor attempted to face her true self and discover her ego.
