피터 아이젠만 건축 작품의 조형적 특성을 응용한 현대 패션 디자인 연구

Abstract

인간의 역사는 다양함 속에서 서로 상호 보완하는 예술과 문화의 발전 안에서 이루어져왔다. 많은 예술과 문화의 장르 안에서도 인간의 가장 기본적인 욕구는 의, 식, 주이며 이중 ‘의’와 ‘주’에 해당하는 패션과 건축은 밀접한 관계 속 에서 발전해왔다. 인간의 생활에 직접적이고 가장 밀접하게 연결되어 있는 건축과 패션은 공간 조형 예술이라는 공통점을 가지고 실용성과 기능성을 기본으로 심미성을 추구한다. 최근의 현대 건축은 기존의 질서와 규율에서 벗어나 다양한 형태변이를 시도하고 있으며, 선두에서 변화를 주도하는 많은 작가들이 해체주의 건축을 표방하고 있다. 닫힌 세계를 거부하고 열린 세계를 추구하는 해체주의 이론은 기존의 정형적인 전통적 주거 공간을 벗어나 기하학적인 추상 공간들을 조작하여, 형태 왜곡적이며 비정형적인 건축물들을 창조한다. 기존의 기능적이며 합리적인 배치대신 비틀리고 뒤틀리며 휘어진 의도적 일탈을 시도한다. 의상은 급변하는 현대 사회에서 단순히 기능적인 목적성을 넘어 실용성과 더불어 예술적 가치를 중요시 하게 되었다. 건축에서 나타나는 조형적인 요소는 패션 디자이너의 영감을 자극하며 건축적 요소들을 의상에 차용하는 계기가 되었으며, 이에 따라 건축의 개념에서 도입된 구조적인 의상들이 패션계에 많이 등장하게 되었다. 피터 아이젠만은 대학에서의 강의와 다양한 저술, 강연 활동 외에도 건축회사를 운영하는 현대 건축계의 대표적 이론건축가로서 학계와 건축 실무 양측에 많은 영향력을 미쳤다. 피터 아이젠만 건축의 형태론적 특성은 1960년대말, 1970년대의 초기 작품에서는 구조주의의 영향으로 그리드를 기본으로 한 육면체의 정형화된 형태로 출발하고 있으나, 1980년대와 1990년대의 후기 작품으로 갈수록 그리드의 틀에서 변형되어진 해체적 경향의 자유로운 형태를 취하고 있다. 본 연구는 현대 해체주의 건축가중의 한 사람인 피터 아이젠만의 건축 작품을 통해 나타나는 조형적 특성을 분석하여 패션 디자인에 모티브로 활용하고, 이를 통해 패션에 있어서 건축적 조형성의 접목과 그 표현 가능성을 제시하고자 하는데 그 목적이 있다. 본 연구의 이론적 고찰은 단행본, 학위논문, 학술지 등을 통한 문헌연구와 인터넷, 컬렉션지, 패션 정보 사이트를 통한 실증적 연구로 자료를 분석하였다. 이론적 배경으로는 피터 아이젠만의 건축이론의 배경과 작품세계를 알아보고 이를 통해 그의 건축 작품에서 나타나는 조형적 특성을 분석하였으며, 건축과 현대 패션의 상관성에 의거하여 건축적 조형성이 응용된 현대 패션 사례를 살펴보았다. 이론적 고찰을 통해 분석한 피터 아이젠만의 건축 작품에 나타난 조형적 특성을 응용하여 6벌의 작품을 제작하였다. 피터 아이젠만 건축 작품의 조형적 특성을 응용한 현대 패션 디자인에 관한 연구를 통해 얻은 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 패턴의 절개로 의상 표면에서 구조적 선과 결부되어 생성된 입체 형태는 의상의 형태와 유리되지 않으면서 자연스럽게 입체감을 형성할 수 있었다. 둘째, 의상 표면에 구성된 입체 형태에 바탕과 대비되는 색채를 적용한 결과 입체적 형태감을 강화시킬 수 있었다. 셋째, 현대건축이 이질적인 소재의 만남으로 개성과 독특함을 추구하듯이, 본 작품에서도 소재의 믹스 매치는 단조로움을 피하고 개성을 표현할 수 있었다. 넷째, 입체 형태를 제도하는 과정에서 퍼즐처럼 길이와 각도를 세밀하게 계산한 결과, 그를 통해 입체형태가 구조적으로 잘 형성될 수 있었으며 중량감을 표출할 수 있었다. 다섯째, 해체적이며 기하학적 조형미를 지닌 입체 형태를 의상의 표면에 재구성한 결과, 독특한 현대적 이미지를 줄 수 있었다. 건축 작품의 조형미는 현대 패션에 지속적인 영감을 주며 패션 산업의 디자인 발전에 큰 영향을 끼쳐왔다. 그러나 형태 지속성이 가능한 자재와 구조물로 이루어진 건축의 조형성이 패션에 표현되기 위해서는 주된 소재로 사용되는 섬유가 가지는 유동적인 특성을 보완할 수 있는 더 많은 연구가 필요하리라 사료되며, 본 연구를 계기로 건축의 조형성을 분석 연구하여 응용함으로써 그 표현 가능성을 확대하는데 많은 연구가 계속되기를 기대해 본다.;Human history has evolved through development of art and culture, which are interdependent in various ways. Among many genres of art and culture, the most basic human needs are food, clothing and shelter. Especially, fashion and architecture have closely developed in relation to each other. Fashion and architecture, which are both closely related with human life, have in common that they are space-artifactual art and aesthetic-oriented based on practicability and function. More recent modern architecture has attempted various changes in form in an effort to deviate from traditional order and regularity. Meanwhile, modern fashion, in pursuit of original beauty in rapidly changing world, has been greatly influenced by structural beauty in the architecture. This study intends to analyze Peter Eisenman's artifactual characteristics of his architecture and apply them to the motive of fashion design. Accordingly, the application of architecture to fashion and the availability of its expression are suggested. This study has referred to publications, academic degree articles. and scientific journals for theoretical background and has referred to the internet and magazines for practical research. For theoretical background, by studying Eisenman's architecture and its theme, the artifactual characteristics in his architecture have been analyzed and the examples have been studied in which architectural beauty are applied based on the interrelation of architecture and modern fashion. Six pieces of garments have been designed applying Eisenman's artifactual characteristics-repetition, overlapping, anti-gravity, and irregularity. Through the study on modern fashion design in relation to Eisenman's artifactual characteristics, the results are as follows; First, the cubic shapes, which have been mixed with structural lines on the works, are not separated from the form of the works, making natural cubic beauty. Second, cubic formation can be intensified by contrasting the shades of the works and the cubic shapes. Third, individuality can be expressed by using different materials, just like in the case of modern architecture. Fourth, in designing cubic shapes, the length and the angle have been calculated carefully, which has resulted in perfect structural shapes and volume. Fifth, modern image can be expressed by reconstructuring the cubic shapes, which are deconstructive and geometrical. The artifactual beauty in the architecture has inspired and influenced modern fashion constantly and greatly.This study will be hopefully followed by more research on the artifactual beauty of the architecture and its application to fashion.
