음악과 영적 경험에 관한 연구

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to see a content on music and spiritual experience. An object of study was 83 people who are 20-50 living in Seoul and capital area, and the research was done in such a way that filling out a questionnaire configured by researcher about music and the spiritual experience. The questionnaire was composed of 5 items, and the responses were analyzed by the method of content analysis. I summarized into frequency analysis after analyzing the overall analysis and categorization of the key words based on what has been described. According to the result of the study, first, a perception of the spiritual experience 'god-related experience(33.7%)' in 'the divine spiritual dimension (68.6%),' and 'emotion, emotional stimulation(14.4%)' in 'the dimension of human spirituality(31.4%),' accounted for the highest proportion. Second, in the spiritual experience within music, the most part of the music was the role of 'inducement of emotional change(42.3%)'. Third, the musical elements that contribute to spiritual experience in music were 'melody(23.7%)‘, 'lyrics(21.3%)' and 'voice(10.3%)’, so it was analyzed that these three had a lot to do with expressing and dealing with emotions. Fourth, 55 people(66.3%) of respondents said they have continued the spiritual experience within music. And in characteristic, 'lyrics(30.1%)', 'tempo(15.0%)' and 'atmosphere(13.3%)' accounted for the largest proportion in spiritual experience within music. 'Divine and spiritual relationship(59.4%)' in lyrics, 'religious music(70.9%)' in genre, 'appreciation(45.5%)' and 'Singing(40.0%)' in type of activity accounted for the most part, so it is associated with the religious side. Last, when viewed as a step-by-step process of spiritual experience in music, 'Music–Need–Exploration–Resolution–Change(38.5%)' accounted for the largest percent. On first step, 'Music' and 'Need' group showed a similar ratio, so it suggests two possibilities of the first step in spiritual experience within music. This study has significance in that it suggests the usage of music for how music and spiritual experience are related, and which elements and features of music works in spiritual experience, and investigating how spiritual experience happens by which process, and reveal the relationship between music and spiritual experience, and as an alternative to the spiritual demand.;본 연구는 음악 경험의 깊이와 영적 차원에서의 음악활용을 위해 음악과 영적 경험에 관한 내용을 알아보는 데에 목적을 두었다. 연구 대상은 서울과 수도권에 거주하는 20대부터 50대까지의 성인 83명이었으며 연구는 연구자가 구성한 음악과 영적 경험에 관한 설문지를 작성하는 방식으로 이루어졌다. 설문은 크게 5개의 질문으로 구성되었으며 설문에 대한 응답은 내용 분석의 방법으로 분석되었다. 본 연구자는 서술된 내용을 바탕으로 총체적 분석과 주요 단어를 범주화하여 분석한 후 빈도 분석으로 정리하였다. 연구의 결과를 살펴보면 첫째, 영적 경험에 관한 인식은 ‘신적 영성의 차원(68.6%)’에서는 ‘신과 관계된 경험(33.7%)’, ‘인간적 영성의 차원(31.4%)’에서는 ‘감성 · 감정적 자극(14.4%)’으로의 인식이 가장 높은 비율을 차지하였다. 둘째, 음악 내 영적 경험에서의 음악의 역할로 가장 많이 나타난 것은 ‘감정 · 정서적 변화(42.3%)’의 역할이었다. 셋째, 음악 내 영적 경험에 기여하는 음악 요소는 ‘멜로디(23.7%)’와 ‘가사(21.3%)’, ‘목소리(10.3%)’의 순으로 나타나면서 감정을 표현하고 다루는 기능과 많은 관련이 있다는 것이 발견되었다. 넷째, 음악 내 영적 경험을 지속하고 있는 응답자는 55명(66.3%)이었으며 지속적인 음악 내 영적 경험에서 사용되는 음악의 특성은 ‘가사(30.1%)’와 ‘템포(15.0%)’, ‘분위기(13.3%)’에 관련된 특성이 가장 큰 비율을 차지하였고 가사는 ‘신적 · 영적 관계(59.4%)’에 관한 내용, 장르에서는 ‘종교음악(70.9%)’, 활동의 형태에서는 ‘감상(45.5%)’과 ‘가창(40.0%)’이 가장 많이 나타나면서 종교적인 면과 연관되어 있는 것으로 보였다. 마지막으로 음악 내 영적 경험 과정을 단계별로 보았을 때 ‘음악–요구–탐색–해소–변화(38.5%)’의 경우가 가장 많이 나타났고 1 단계에서 ‘음악’그룹과 ‘요구’그룹은 비슷한 비율을 보이며 음악 내 영적 경험 과정의 시작을 두 가지의 가능성으로 제시하였다. 본 연구는 음악과 영적 경험이 어떻게 관련이 있으며 음악의 어떤 요소와 특징이 영적 경험에 작용하는지, 어떠한 과정으로 영적 경험이 일어나는 지를 알아봄으로써 음악과 영적 경험의 관계를 밝히고 영적 차원에서의 음악활용 가능성과 방안을 제시했다는 점에서 의의를 가진다.
