사회 인지 관점에 따른 사회 정의 관심과 실천 모형의 검증

Abstract

본 연구는 국내 대학생의 사회 정의에 관한 관심과 실천에 기저하는 심리적 과정을 살펴보고 사회 정의 활동을 촉진하기 위해 사회인지진로이론(SCCT)을 사회 정의 영역에 적용한 Miller와 동료들(2009)의 연구를 반복 검증하였다. 구체적으로는 사회 정의에 대한 자기 효능감과 결과 기대가 관심에 영향을 주고 사회 정의에 대한 관심이 실천에 영향을 준다는 가설을 확인하였다. 또한 맥락적 변인(contextual variable)인 사회 정의 활동에 대한 사회적 지지와 장애가 실천에 직접적으로 혹은 간접적으로 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 알아보았다. 위의 연구 문제를 검증하기 위해 서울 및 경기도에 소재한 4년제 대학교 남녀 대학생 300여 명을 대상으로 사회적 이슈 질문지(SIQ)와 사회적 바람직성 척도(SDS-24), 인구통계학적 및 기타 변인에 대한 설문을 실시하였으며 회수된 설문지 343부 중 불성실하게 응답한 6부를 제외한 337부를 최종 분석에 사용하였다. 측정의 과대 추정을 막기 위해 사회적 바람직성을 통제한 상태에서 구조방정식 모형 검증을 실시한 주요 결과는 아래와 같다. 첫째, SCCT 모델에 기반한 선행연구들과 마찬가지로 사회 정의에 대한 SCCT 모델은 국내 대학생들의 사회 정의에 대한 관심과 실천을 설명하는데 있어 적합한 것으로 나타났다. 최종 연구 모델은 사회 정의에 대한 관심(72%)와 실천(71%)을 유의미하게 설명하여 자기 효능감, 결과 기대, 관심, 실천 등 SCCT 모델의 핵심적인 변인들이 사회 정의 영역에도 유용하게 적용됨을 알 수 있다. 즉, 사회 정의에 대한 자기 효능감과 결과 기대가 관심에 영향을 주고 다시 사회 정의에 대한 관심이 실천에 영향을 주는 것이다. 둘째, SCCT 모델의 맥락적 요인인 사회적 지지와 장애의 사회 정의 실천에 대한 영향을 알아보기 위해 사회적 지지와 사회적 장애가 직접적으로 실천에 미치는 효과와 자기 효능감을 통해 간접적으로 미치는 효과를 비교한 결과 간접 효과 모델이 지지되었다. 이는 선행 연구들과 일치하는 결과로 사회 정의 활동에 대한 사회적 지지가 사회 정의 활동에 대한 자기 효능감을 강화시키고 이는 관심으로 이어져 실천에 영향을 주는 것으로 풀이된다. 셋째, 국내 대학생들의 사회 정의에 대한 관심과 실천을 가장 잘 설명해 주는 대안적 모델을 탐색한 결과, 결과 기대를 통한 사회적 지지의 간접 효과가 입증되었다. 다른 말로 주변에서 사회적 지지가 높은 사람일수록 긍정적인 결과 기대를 형성하게 되어 사회 정의 활동에 대한 관심과 실천으로 이어진다는 것을 보여준다. 이는 미국 대학생들을 대상으로 한 Miller와 동료들(2009)의 결과와도 비슷한 양상으로 타 학문 및 진로 선택 등 다른 영역들에서는 나타나지 않은 독특한 경로이다. 대학생들이 자신이 속한 사회의 현안에 관심을 갖고 사회 정의 활동을 실천하는 것이 이 시기의 발달 과업 중의 하나인 자아 정체성 및 가치감 확립과도 매우 밀접한 주제임에도 불구하고 국내 대학생들은 고등학교 때까지의 획일화된 입시교육과 의존적인 생활 및 대학 입학 후에도 이어지는 극심한 취업난으로 인해 사회 정의를 추구하기 위한 활동들에 적극적으로 관여하기 어려운 상황이다. 본 연구의 결과는 우리 사회가 정의롭지 못하다고 지각하는 데 따른 사회 갈등의 문제가 날로 심화되고 있는 현 시점에서 국내 대학생들의 사회 정의에 관한 관심과 실천을 촉진하기 위한 개입의 방향을 제공해 준다. 예를 들어 자기 효능감 및 결과 기대를 높이기 위한 교육과 사회적 지지 체계가 뒷받침되어져야 하는 것이다. 이에 더하여 본 연구의 제한점과 추후 연구를 위한 제언을 함께 제시하였다.;The primary purpose of this study is to investigate psychological processes based on the social justice interests and commitment of Korean college students’ as well as to explore implication lessons in order to promote social justice commitment among them. A theoretical frame of predicting social justice commitment originated from Miller and colleagues’(2009) is employed in this study. The frame is related to social-cognitive career theory(SCCT; R.W. Lent, S. D. Brown, & G. Hackett, 1994) representing the development of social justice interests and commitment. Specifically, we tested the hypothesis that social justice self-efficacy as well as the outcome expectation for social justice affect the interest in social justice and the interests in social justice affect social justice commitment. And then we also investigated how social supports and barriers for social justice affect social justice commitment(directly on social justice commitment vs indirectly through social justice self-efficacy on social justice commitment). Data from 343 college students were used for this study, all of them response to Social Issue Questionnaire(SIQ; Miller et al., 2009), Social Desirability Scale-24(SDS; Kim Young-Suk, 2010), and other demographical questions. In order to prevent some measurement overestimates, we handled social desirability and then executed Structural Estimate Modeling(SEM) by Anderson & Gerbing(1988)’s two step approach. As a result, the final research model’s goodness of fit was χ2=676.207, df=219; RMSEA=.079; CFI=.915; TLI=.902, explaining 71% of social justice interest and 72% of social justice commitment. Also, the indirect model was proven as valid results in comparison with the direct model and as an unique path of social-justice domain, the indirect effect by social support through outcome expectation was proved. This study covers measurement limitations, future directions for research, and some lessons points with regards to how Korean college students to have social justice interests and commitment.
