기억을 향상시키기 위한 디지털텍스트 강조기법들에 관한 연구

Abstract

사람들은 모든 정보를 기억할 수 없기 때문에, 정보 중 중요한 내용만을 선별하는 것이 요구된다. 이때 특정 정보가 선별되기 위한 방법 중 하나가 강조기법이다. 강조기법은 텍스트를 구성하고 있는 시각적 구성 요소들의 형태 속성을 변형시켜 텍스트의 특정 정보가 눈에 띄도록 하는 방법이다. 이러한 강조기법이 적용된 항목은 그렇지 않은 항목보다 주의를 끌고, 기억을 향상시킨다는 연구 결과가 보고되고 있다. 그러나 대부분의 연구는 인쇄 매체에서 읽기 및 이해의 과제로 관찰되었으며, 소수의 강조기법만을 사용하여 알아보았다. 이에 디지털텍스트를 처리하는데 영향을 미치는 강조기법들에 관한 연구는 상대적으로 부족한 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 디지털텍스트를 이용한 단어 재인 과제에서 강조기법이 적용된 단어와 그렇지 않은 단어의 수행을 비교하여 강조기법이 기억 수행에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 알아보고자 하였다. 본 연구에서는 세 개의 실험을 진행하였다. 실험 Ⅰ은 여섯 가지 강조기법의 비교를 통해, 어떠한 강조기법이 단어 재인 과제의 수행을 가장 많이 향상 시키는지 알아보았다. 이를 위해, 세 개의 변인이 조작되었다. 첫 번째 변인에는 검사단어가 제시목록에 포함되어 있거나 그렇지 않은 조건이 있다. 두 번째 변인에는 강조기법 유형으로 크기, 굵기, 글자색, 글자 배경색, 기울기, 밑줄 조건이 있다. 마지막으로 세 번째 변인에는 강조기법이 적용되거나 적용되지 않은 조건이 있다. 실험 Ⅱ는 실험 Ⅰ결과 강조효과가 가장 크게 나타난 두 가지의 강조기법을 동시에 적용하여, 한 가지 강조기법만을 적용했을 때와 비교하였다. 마지막 실험 Ⅲ은 실험 Ⅱ와 동일한 과제를 실시하면서, 추가로 안구 운동을 추적하여 강조기법이 안구 운동에 미치는 영향에 대해 알아보았다. 실험 결과, 강조기법을 적용한 조건에서 그렇지 않은 조건보다 단어 재인 과제의 수행이 향상되었다. 또한 크기, 굵기, 글자색, 기울기, 글자 배경색, 밑줄 중 강조효과가 가장 큰 강조기법 두 가지는 크기 기법과 굵기 기법이었다. 그러나 크기 기법과 굵기 기법을 동시에 적용했을 때와 하나의 강조기법만을 적용했을 때의 강조효과 차이는 거의 없었다. 마지막으로 강조기법의 적용은 그렇지 않을 때보다 더 먼저 주의를 끌고, 오래 응시하게 했다. 본 연구 결과를 통해 디지털텍스트에서 강조효과는 주의를 끌고 기억을 향상시킨다는 것을 알 수 있으며, 크기, 굵기, 글자색, 기울기, 글자 배경색, 밑줄의 강조기법 중 크기와 굵기 기법이 단어 재인 과제 수행을 가장 많이 향상시켰다고 볼 수 있다.;It is required that people would select only the important contents of the information because it is impossible to remember all the information. The one of the methods to select specific information is highlighting. The highlighting is that the type of attribution into visual elements transforms to stand out the specific information. According to the many reported studies, the parts that emphasized such highlighting is applied would be given more attention and improve memory performance. However, most studies have been observed as a task for reading and comprehension in printed media with little highlighting type. Therefore, the studies of highlighting for digital text are comparatively insufficient. The purpose of this study is to find the effects of highlighting to memory performances through the comparison between highlighted word and non-highlighted word in word recognition task with digital text. In this study, it performed three experiments. The experiment 1 examined which highlighting would improve the performance of word recognition task thorough the comparison of six highlighting types. To design the environment for experiment 1, three variables were defined. The first variable is that target word is included in the word list or not. The second variable is that highlighting type presented Big, Bold, Font color, Background color, Italic, Underline conditions. The last one is that highlighting was granted or not. The experiment Ⅱ compared between two highlighting types with the most highlighting effect from the Experiment I at the same time and one highlighting type applied environment. The last experiment was conducted that the effect of highlighting to eye movement through the tracking eye movement. The results of experiments, the highlighting applied condition improved the performance of word recognition task than non-applied condition. In addition, Big and Bold conditions are the strongest highlighting type among Big, Bold, Font Color, Italic, Background color, Underline. However, there was little difference in the effect of highlighting when it was applied Big and Bold conditions compared with one highlighting applied. Finally, the condition applied highlighting would give more attention and gazing. The result of this study explains that highlighting effects in digital text give attention and improve memory. Furthermore, the most efficient method is that Big and Bold than Font Color, Italic, Background color, Underline.
