전자북의 기술현황과 전망

Abstract

The publication industry, through its various publications, cultivates, records, preserves and celebrates culture. As a foundation for education, the information industry and various other industries, without it, our cultural backbone would collapse. The publication industry is a good reflection of the current societal trends. The most current information and trends are published immediately and in this age of multimedia, its role as a recycling center of all information is slowly increasing. The influence of the computers on this industry is reflected in the continued digitalization of books on paper. In particular, in the late 1980's, there was a tremendous change in the method of typesetting. The traditional and editing and the use of computers to edit books on paper is the current trend. With the advent of the digital age and as the number of high-speed Internet connections bypass modern connections, the percentage of the population using the Internet has jumped radically. In response to these societal changes, the publication industry is also changing. The transition from offline to online purchasing and selling is a telling example of this change. With the creation of the electronic book, that promises to bring the digital and Internet age to the publication industry, there have been many both optimistic and pessimistic outlooks, but there is one common ground. All agree that this electronics book has reorganized and brought about a new system of change to the publication industry. This thesis will take a look at the current and future outlook of electronic publishing domestically and the current state of electronics publishing internationally. We will also look at the characteristics, advantages and disadvantages of PDF and XML, the standard format of electronic books, and observing the current use of the Internet, we will hopefully aid in the creation of a new electronic format for the future.;출판산업은 출판물을 통하여 지식과 문화를 창조하여 기록, 보조하고 전승함으로써 교육과 문화, 정보산업을 비롯한 제반 산업을 바탕을 이루는 전형적인 문화산업으로서 다른 모든 분야에서 출판을 떼어낸다면 전체 문화의 축이 붕괴될 것이다. 출판산업은 당대의 사회현상을 가장 잘 반영하여 새로운 소재와 경향을 즉시 출판물로 발행하며, 또한 정보화, 멀티미디어 시대에 있어서 출판산업은 영상과 정보, 통신에서 재활용되는 소재 산업으로서의 역할이 더욱 증대되고 있다. 컴퓨터에 의한 출판분야의 변화는 크게 기존의 종이책 제작 과정의 전산화와 디지털 출판매체의 등장으로 볼 수 있다. 특히 80년대 말경부터 출판물 조판 방법에 있어서도 많은 변화가 있었다. 기존의 수동식 사진식자기에서 전산 식자기와 전산 편집기로 변화되어 왔으며, 지금은 종이책 추판물 편집에 컴퓨터의 활용이 일반화 되고 있는 추세이다. 디지털 시대의 도래와 함께 초고속망 사용자가 일반 모뎀 사용자를 앞서는 등 기본 인터넷 인프라가 확장됨에 따라, 그만큼 인터넷의 이용자는 급증하고 있는 추세이다. 일한 환경적인 변화에 맞춰 국내 출판 시장도 급격하게 변하고 있으며, 기존 오프라인 기반의 매출구조에서 온라인으로의 급겨간 이동 현상은 예외없는 시대 흐름이라고 할 수 있다. 디지털 환경의 인터넷 시대 도래와 함께 새로운 출판문화를 가져올 것으로 예상되고 있는 전자북의 향후 전망을 놓고 낙관론과 비관론이 엇갈리고 있지만 한가지 공통된 의견은 전자북에 따른 기존 출판 시스템의 도래라는 대세에는 모두 의견 일치를 보인다는 사실이다. 본 논문에서는 국내 전자출판의 현황과 전망 및 국외 전자출판 현황에 대해서 알아보고, 이러한 상황을 바탕으로 전자북 표준하 현황 및 관련 업계 동향과 아울러 전자북 표준 포맷으로 자리잡고 있는 PDF 방식과 XML 방식의 특징 및 장단점을 살펴보고 현재의 통신 인프라를 고려하여 도서 구성 방식에 따른 전자북 표준 포맷을 결정하는데 조금이나마 도움이 되고자 한다.
