한국 산지(山地)의 선(線)을 응용한 의상디자인 연구

Abstract

Today, countries over the world have distinctly showed a tendency to cultural pluralism i.e., escaping from control of the trend of thought with world wide unifying culture and life, reinterpreting original culture or tradition, and developing it modernistically. Therefore, effects to reaffirm cultural values of native land, use them actively, and develop into original culture are strengthened. Keeping pace with this tendency, efforts to find our own cultural origin also emerge actively in each field in Korea. Nature affects personality and aesthetic sense of people. As suggested by H. Taine in the 19th century - the founder of Sociology of Art - that characters of art are decided by 3 social conditions including human race, geographic environment, and period decide, topographic environment surrounding us i.e., nature has influence on the formation of human's aesthetic sense. Similarly, in Korea, features from nature have an impact on all parts such as our spirit or life, and art. Korean natural environment with beautiful and friendly aspect affected formation of conformity of Korean people to nature greatly, and formed a naturalistic aesthetic sense of Korean people. Human's sense of value was established under the harmony with nature, conforming nature's reasonableness. This was just a Korean naturalistic spirit and an attitude toward nature. In the Korean nature, mountains and streams consist of the flowing of persistent lines. An aesthetic feeling of pleasure in Korean beauty when nature becomes a motive is originated from smooth lines from smoothly physical aspects of mountains and topography. These lines can be easily found in physical aspects of Korean old-aging topography like smoothly flowing. Today, to gain the international competitive power in the informationalization period, developing the design based on Korean nature as an origin of formation of the Korean aesthetic sense is an our confronting issue and design has a valuable benefit as a highly value-added means containing our unique culture under these situation. Therefore, the development of Korean design embodying beauty of Korean nature and traditional culture including the beauty of Korean nature will bring us to the significant competitive power in the globalized society. This study was progressed as follows. First, to express Korean nature considered as an origin of a Korean aesthetic sense into linear beauty, natural features of comprehensive Korean topography were examined. Then, on the basis of researchers' various opinions that nature affects formation of human senses, how Korean nature has affected the Korean aesthetic sense was analyzed in relation to an aesthetic sense of Korean people. Second, with these analyzing bases, the relationship between Korean formative arts and Korean nature were demonstrated and examples in design containing the beauty of Korean nature were analyzed. Third, topographic features of Korean nature were examined by applying a classification system according to W.M Davis's Cycle of Erosion, and features of line among formative aspects from these topographic features were analyzed. Fourth, to test its applicability on fashion design, the Tuck technique was comprehensively understood, lines from Korea topography were produced and implemented focusing on the Tuck technique, and possibilities of material development and new methods for fashion design were found. Total 8 pieces were produced and they were classified into one-piece, dress, suit, and coat. As a result of this study, the author could understand interrelation between Korean nature and an aesthetic sense of Korean people by reviewing features of Korea nature as a base of the aesthetic sense, and implement the fashion design with a Korean sense of beauty by analyzing features of Korean geography affecting formation of the aesthetic sense greatly and reflecting beauty of smoothly flowing-like lines from the topography on design. In this study, the author attempted to propose that Korean nature as a base forming an aesthetic sense of Korean people has sufficient possibilities as a motive of original design in Korean design and to suggest a direction to develop modern Korean fashion design with international features suitable for periodic sense as well as traditionalism instead of following the old things by reaffirming that works using Korean images have possibilities of modern design with beauty of Korean nature which should be considered with elements of traditionalism and modernity. ;자연은 그 속에서 사는 사람들의 성격과 미의식에 영향을 준다. 예술 사회학(Sociology of Art)의 창시자인 19세기의 테이느(H. Taine)가 예술의 성격을 인종, 지리적 환경, 시대 등 세 가지 사회적 조건이 결정짓는다고 주장한 바 있듯이 우리를 둘러싸고 있는 지리적 환경, 즉 자연은 인간의 미의식 형성에 영향을 준다. 생태적(生態的) 환경으로서 자연은 그 자연 속에서 살아가는 인간이 심리적인 지향성을 가지게 됨으로써 인간의 사유와 행동 양식에 커다란 영향을 주는 요인으로 작용하기 때문이다. 우리나라도 예외는 아니어서 자연에서 오는 특성이 우리의 의식이나 삶, 예술 등 모든 부분에 걸쳐 영향을 주어왔다. 육당 최남선은 조선의 국토는 그대로 조선의 역사이고 철학이며, 시이고, 정신이라고 예술과 철학의 환경 인자설을 이야기하였다. 김원룡도 <한국 고미술의 이해>에서 한국의 자연은 산은 둥글고 물은 잔잔하며 평화롭고 너그러운 생활환경이며 자연 환경이 그 속에서 자라나는 사람의 성격에 영향을 준다고 말했다. 특히 과거 우리나라와 같이 자연 그 자체가 물질적 토대가 되는 농경 사회에서는 더욱더 자연과의 긴밀한 연계 의식을 가지게 됨은 물론이다. 아름답고 친근한 한국의 자연환경은 한국인의 자연에 대한 애호, 순응성을 기르는데 상당한 영향을 미쳐, 한국인의 자연주의적 미의식을 형성시켰을 것이다. 그래서 자연의 순리에 따르며 자연과의 조화 속에서 인간의 가치관을 정립하였다. 이것이 곧 한국적 자연주의 정신이며 자연에 대한 태도였다. 그러므로 우리나라 예술표현에 있어서 자연을 배경으로 하는 것은 거의 본능적인 것이었고 자연의 현상에 몰입하고자 하는 낙천성도 동시에 지니고 있었음을 발견하게 된다. 이러한 한국의 자연은 산천의 흐름은 끊임없는 선의 흐름으로 이어져 있다. 자연을 모티프로 하여 느껴지는 한국미의 미적 쾌감은 부드러운 산세, 지세 등에서 나온 부드러운 선이라 할 수 있다. 그 선은 직선이 아닌 곡선, 따스하며 온화하여 정이 통하는 사랑스러운 것, 그리고 안정감을 주는 것으로 균형감과 조화를 느끼게 한다. 이러한 선은 부드럽게 흐르는 한국의 노년기성 지형적 특성에서 쉽게 찾아볼 수 있다. 그 낮은 듯 산세의 선과 굽이굽이 흐르는 강은 선의 사계절마다 변화를 달리하며 자연의 흐름을 보여준다. 이와 같은 우리의 자연은 우리 무의식 세계 속에 축척되어 의식세계에 영향을 주고 조형의식을 형성하는 데 많은 기여를 했다. 오늘날과 같은 정보화 시대에 국제 경쟁력을 확보하기 위하여 한국의 미의식 형성의 원류라고 볼 수 있는 우리만이 가진 한국적 자연에 근거한 디자인을 개발하는 것은 우리에게 당면한 과제이며, 이러한 환경에서 디자인은 우리의 독특한 문화를 담아낼 수 있는 고부가가치의 수단으로서 충분한 가치가 있다. 그러므로 우리 자연의 아름다움과 그것이 배어 있는 전통문화를 형상화시키는 한국적 디자인의 개발은 국제사회 속에서 중요한 경쟁력을 지닐 수 있게 될 것이다. 따라서, 본 연구의 목적은 한국 미의식 형성의 바탕이 되어 온 한국의 자연과 한국인의 미의식간의 관계에 대한 이해로부터 출발한다. 이러한 한국의 자연 가운데에 인간의 무의식에 영향을 미쳐온 거시적 자연환경으로서 국토의 80%를 차지하는 한국의 산지(山地)특징을 살펴보고, 한국 산지의 대부분을 차지하는 노년기성 산지에서 나타난 선(線)의 조형적인 요소를 분석해 의상 디자인에 적용시키고자 한다. 이러한 선의 표현에 있어 산지의 자연스런 선을 부조적 기법인 터크 기법을 응용함으로 선의 2차원적인 표현보다 표면 장식이라는 보다 적극적인 방법으로 표현하고자 한다. 또한, 더 나아가 현대 사회의 의상디자인에 있어서 한국의 자연을 응용한 독창적인 디자인으로서, 한국적인 미의식의 표출이라는 새로운 가능성을 제시하는데 그 목적이 있다. 연구의 내용전개는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 자연이 인간의 의식형성에 영향을 준다는 학자들의 여러 견해를 근거로, 한국의 자연 또한 한국인의 미의식에 어떠한 영향을 미쳐왔는지 한국인의 미의식과 관련지어 한국의 자연과 미의식간의 상관관계를 분석해 보았다. 둘째, 이러한 분석을 토대로 한국의 조형예술을 살펴 한국의 자연과의 연관성을 논증하였고, 이러한 한국의 자연의 미를 엿볼 수 있는 의상 디자인에서의 사례를 분석하였다. 셋째, 위의 분석과 지형의 선을 특징적 모티브로 한 여러 작품 사례 분석을 통하여 의상 디자인으로의 적용가능성을 찾아보았다. 넷째, 한국의 자연 중 국토의 대부분을 차지하는 산지의 특징을 W.M 데이비스의 침식윤회설에 따른 분류법을 적용해 전반적으로 살펴보았고, 이러한 한국의 산지에서 오는 지형적 특징에서 나타나는 선(線)의 유형을 본 연구자가 수집한 120점의 사진을 통해 조형적으로 분석함으로서 유동적인 곡선, 중첩되는 곡선, 비대칭적인 곡선, 불규칙적인 곡선, 기타 등으로 유출해 내, 본인의 디자인 모티프로서의 활용 가능성을 살펴보았다. 다섯째, 의상디자인에의 적용가능성을 실험하기 위하여 터크(Tuck)기법에 대해 전반적으로 이해하고, 한국의 산지에서 오는 선(線)을 터크기법을 중심으로 제작함으로써 형상화시켜 소재개발의 가능성과 의상디자인의 새로운 방법을 모색해 보았다. 작품은 이와 같은 내용은 통해 총 8벌을 제작하였으며 원피스, 드레스, 수트, 코트로 분류하였다. 이 연구의 결과로는 첫째, 한국 미의식의 바탕이 되는 자연과 미의식간의 상관관계를 이해해 한국의 자연적 특징과 한국인의 자연주의적 미의식과의 관련성을 이해할 수 있었다. 둘째, 미의식의 형성에 큰 영향을 미치는 거시적 자연환경으로서 한국의 산지의 지형적 특징을 분석해, 그 산지에서 지각되는 선의 조형적 특징을 유출해 냄으로써 한국 산지에서 나타난 선의 특징을 디자인에 반영하여 한국의 자연적 미감이 느껴지는 의상디자인으로의 가능성을 모색할 수 있었다. 넷째, 거칠고 소박한 자연주의적 미적 특징을 지닌 삼베를 접어서 박아, 다리미의 압력에 따른 우연한 선의 표현으로 분석을 통해 유출된 선의 특징 중 유동적이고 비대칭적인 곡선을 표현할 수 있었고, 이러한 불규칙한 터크를 겹쳐지게 표현함으로써 중첩되는 산지의 선을 나타낼 수 있었다. 또한, 실크를 사용해 셔링을 불규칙적으로 잡아줌으로써 한국 산지에 나타난 불규칙하고, 우연적인 선의 흐름을 적절히 표현해 낼 수 있었다. 넷째, 이러한 소재를 감염색과 오배자염의 천연염의 색감을 샘플작업해서 얻어낸 색을 토대로, 실용성을 감안해 화학염색함으로써, 보다 은은한 자연적 색감을 유도해 낼 수 있었다. 이 연구를 통하여 본 연구자는 한국인의 미의식을 형성시킨 토대가 된 한국의 자연이 한국적 디자인의 독창적인 디자인 모티프로 충분한 가능성을 지니고 있으며, 한국적인 자연의 이미지를 활용한 작품들을 통해, 국가적 정체성과 현대성의 요소를 함께 고려해야하는 한국 자연미가 느껴지는 현대적 디자인으로서의 가능성을 재발견함으로써 단순한 옛것의 답습이 아닌, 시대감각에 부응하는 한국적 패션 디자인 개발의 방향을 제시하고자 하였다.
