Peruvian textiles and weaving reflect culture, society, politics, custom and etc. better than any other textile style which had formed around the world, andtherefore it has been a good object for studies of archaeologists of the world. Peruvian textiles are superior in their deep traditions, various shapes and technicalaspects as well as their various usages for decorations, religious objects, commonsupplies, clothes, garments for mummies and etc. For Peruvians, a textile hascomprehensive meanings and values such as one of ways to express words, symbol of social classes and religious desires. Peruvian textiles has changed since3,000 B.C. throughout a diversity of cultural ranges and established brillianttextile-cultural traditions. However, there are rarely studies about Peruvian textileson the way in Korea in spite of their great values and it is difficult to obtainstudy data, especially examples of Peruvian textiles applied to fashion in and outof country. The aim of this research is to study and then, present a new ethnic look byintegrating Peruvian traditional textiles with modern fashion design and to developa suitable brand for it. Handcrafted tapestry was chosen as Peruvian traditional159textile that was a major motive of the research and the researchers visitedpersonally small villages in the Peruvian Andes, observed all the processes offrom spinning to dyeing and weaving and collected tapestry textiles by requestingweaving with color plans. As for the weaving techniques of Peruvian traditionaltextiles and history, they made a report by interviewing local people, referring todata of museums in the city of Lima and Cusco, and investigating information ofPeruvian newspapers, foreign books and the Internet. And about the studying ofethnic look in modern fashion and a research related to the development of newbrands, I pigeonholed and analyzed data collected from domestic and foreigndocuments, collections of learned papers, scientific journals, technical magazines, fashion magazines and Internet Websites. The works of the research are as follow. First, as for the conception of ethnic, I consider through domestic and foreigndocuments, theses, academy data, and analyze the trend of ethnic look in modernfashion in from 2000 to 2007. Second, as for history and characteristics of Peruvian traditional textiles, I collectsubstantial data by visiting and interviewing local people in the Peruvian Andes, and pigeonhole and categorize them after translating data of Peruvian documents, newspapers and Internet. Third, as for the plan to launch the brand, I figure out the changes in the fashionenvironment and the current situation of fashion markets based on theresearcher's hands-on-background, and set up a brand development plan byanalyzing domestic and foreign trend information journals, Websites specialized infashion and data of the planning office of national brand products. Fourth, based on analyzed data, I plan to integrate Peruvian traditional textileswith modern fashion design, and product eight pieces of our researched anddeveloped works by using Peruvian tapestry textile. The conclusions acquired from the development of design of new brand productsbased on theory researches and investigated and analyzed data are as follow. First, A match between Peruvian traditional textiles and wool felt creates a senseof stability in silhouette and is appropriate for the development of modern design. By developing products design especially using handcrafted textiles, I was able togive a differentiated image as a brand of new concept. Second, Peruvian traditional textiles composed of various motives and colorarrangements made possible a unique and high class color coordination of eachdesign. Third, by arranging Peruvian traditional textiles, that were weaved in a stripedpattern mixing many motives, on patterns in the manner of oblique line, diagonalline, vertical line, the horizon and so on , it was possible to present a textile of afeeling of straight line as a newly changed modern image. Therefore, it is considered important and meaningful to utilize Peruvian traditionaltextiles for modern clothes to specify and materialize their esthetic values usingmodern and sensuous (sensual) expression. Especially developing fashion productdesign brand with pure handicraft textile in current textiles and fashion marketswhich are tired of mass production and standardization is considered to have freshstimulations to the fashion industry world and get strong competitiveness with anexclusive image. I hope this study to help understand form and history of Peruvian textiles andbecome a basic data or material which can actually be applied to other designfields. Moreover, I wish it to be a desirable model or an example of new brandsthat produces high added values distinctively by developing a new brand withunique items and designs in the fashion market and its fierce competition.-
