D. Buxtehude의 Prelude and Fugue에 관한 연구

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to review the German organist and composer Dietrich Buxtehude's (1637-1707) life active during the 17th century and the characteristics of his organ works centering around his "Prelude and Fugue in g minor, Bux WV 149" and thereupon, comparatively analyze Preludes and Fugues between composers before him and those after him to have a correct understanding of the overall characteristics of Preludes and Fugues during Baroque era. Dietrich Buxtehude may well have represented the Northern German music school active during mid- and late-Baroque era or before J. S. Bach(1685-1750). After Martin Luther's (1483-1546) Reformation in the 16th century, German Protestant Church established music in the center of its ritual services, and thus, the works produced by Buxtehude who was faithful enough to dedicated his life to church services and music were based on Chorale related to church ritual services as well as centered about Prelude, Fugue and Toccata. In particular, Buxtehude's Prelude and Fugue show his imagination and rich freedom than his other works. They consist of impromptu Prelude and 1~3 Fugues with diverse counterpoints; each piece contrast well with each other, but themes are interrelated with each other for a musical integrity. The Preludes before Buxtehude had a short, simple and impromptu element of 10-20 nodes performed before the ritual service, but later, the piece would be longer, more harmonic and skillful. Around 1650 or during early Baroque era when the Northern German school composers began to combine short Fugue of a counterpoint form with free and harmonic Prelude, Prelude and Fugue of Baroque music would develop into more luxurious and diversified forms, and by the period of J. S. Back, they would have a perfect musical form.;본 논문은 17세기의 독일 오르가니스트 겸 작곡가인 Dietrich Buxtehude(1637-1707)의 Prelude and Fugue in g minor, Bux WV 149를 중심으로 음악가로서의 그의 생애와 그가 작곡한 오르간 작품의 특징을 연구함과 동시에, Buxtehude 이전과 이후 작곡가들의 Prelude and Fugue를 알아봄으로써 바로크 시기 Prelude and Fugue의 전반적인 특징을 이해하는데 궁극적인 목적을 두었다. Dietrich Buxtehude(1637-1707)는 바로크 시대의 중 . 후반, J. S. Bach(1685-1750) 이전에 활동한 북독일 악파의 대표적인 작곡가이다. 16세기에 있었던 Martin Luther(1483-1546)의 종교개혁 이후, 독일의 신교 교회는 예배의식에 있어서 음악이 중요한 위치로 자리 잡게 되었고, 평생을 교회의 봉사와 교회를 위한 작품 활동으로 일생을 보낸 성실한 신앙인이었던 Buxtehude의 작품들 역시 예배의식과 관련된 Chorale을 기초로 한 작품을 비롯하여 Prelude, Fugue Toccata 등이 주를 이루고 있다. 특히 Buxtehude 의 Prelude and Fugue는 그가 작곡한 다른 형식에 비하여 그의 상상력과 풍부한 자유로움이 드러나는 형식으로, 즉흥적인 성격의 Prelude와 다양한 대위법을 사용한 1-3개의 Fugue로 구성되어있는데, 각각은 분명한 대조를 이루면서도 서로 주제적 요소의 연관성을 보여주어 음악적 통일성을 이루는 그의 뛰어난 작곡기법을 엿볼 수 있다. Buxtehude 이전의 Prelude는 예배시작 전에 연주되는 10-20마디의 짧고 단순하면서 즉흥적인 요소를 가진 음악으로 시작되었으나, 점차 곡의 길이가 길어지고 화성적이며 기교적인 음악으로 변모해갔다. 1650년 경 바로크 초기 북독일 악파 작곡가들이 자유롭고 화성적인 Prelude에 대위법 양식의 짧은 Fugue를 결합시키기 시작하면서 바로크 시기의 Prelude and Fugue는 더욱 화려하고 다양한 모습으로 발전되었으며 J. S. Bach에 이르러서는 하나의 완벽한 형식으로 그 형태를 갖추게 되었다.
