소장데이터용 KORMARC형식 개발에 관한 연구

Abstract

본 연구는 소장데이터 기술상의 표준화 문제를 인식하고, 소장데이터 기술을 위한 표준형식인 소장데이터용 KORMARC 형식을 개발 및 활용하여 분담목록시스템 구축을 통한 상호대차, 협동수서, 종합목록활동, 장서개발을 용이하게 하는 데 그 목적을 두었다. 연구목적을 달성하기 위하여 본 연구는 문헌연구, 면담조사, 사례연구를 병용하였다. 문헌연구를 통해서는 소장데이터 기술에 대한 개념정의와 소장데이터용 MARC형식의 성립배경, 활용사례 등을 고찰하였다 또한 국내 자료의 특수성에 맞는 소장데이터용 KORMARC형식을 개발하기 위해서 국내 대규모 도서관의 현직 자동화업무 담당사서들과 면담을 실시하여 그들의 업무상에서 나타나는 소장데이터 처리상의 문제점을 규명하였다. 사례연구에서는 USMARC Format for Holdings Data, Canadian MARC Communication Format : Holding Data, KORMARC, OCLC-MARC, Utlas MARC, Chinese MARC, JAPAN MARC, 그리고 NACSIS형식을 대상으로 각 형식의 소장데이터 기술부분을 검토하고 형식내의 소장데이터요소들을 비교분석하였다. 이와 같은 과정을 통하여 얻어진 지식을 토대로 소장데이터용 KORMARC형식을 개발하였다. 이 형식은 연속간행물과 비연속간행물을 위한 KORMAR 소장데이터요소를 명시하는 코드와 규칙(표시기호, 지시기호, 식별기호, 코드값)을 정의한다. 대부분의 데이터요소와 그들의 출력은 소장사항 기술을 위한 ANSI 표준, 즉 ANSI Z39.44 Serial Holding Statements 와 ANSI/NISO Z39.57 Holdings Statements for Non-Serial Items에 의해 정의된다. 기타 소장데이터용 KORMARC형식의 내용표지기호들은 이 형식을 이용함으로써 종합목록, 연속간행물 체크인, 상호대차시스템과 같은 자동화된 관리시스템과 인터페이스할 수 있게 한다. 설계는 기본적으로 소장데이터용 USMARC형식과CAN/MARC형식에 준거하였으며, 서지데이터용 KORMARC형식과의 호환성도 고려하였다. 소장데이터용 KORMARC형식의 활용은 KORMARC소장정보의 생성 및 유지, 커뮤니케이션과 처리를 위한 시스템의 설계와 유지에 이용할 수 있도록 하였으며, 구체적으로 다음과 같은 활용방안을 제시하였다. 첫째, 기존의 책자형 종합목록보다 우수한 종합목록을 간행하는데 있어 상세한 소장정보를 제공할 수 있도록 하였다. 즉 지금까지의 종합목록이 단순히 자료의 서지정보와 소장처 확인 및 소장 범위를 알려 주는 데 사용되어 온 반면에 소장데이터용 KORMARC형식의 기술방법을 따를 경우에는 도서관의 복사정책, 대출정책, 보유정책과 같은 이용자봉사정보, 자료가 소장되어 있는 하위기관 및 배가위치 등의 개별 도서관 정보, 그리고 각각의 자료에 대한 상태정보 등 다양한 정보를 제공할 수 있게 하였다. 둘째, 삽입형식과 독립형식을 자관의 결정에 따라 자유로이 선택하여 사용할 수 있는 방법을 제시하였다. 즉 독립형식과 삽입형식을 각각 효율성 있게 활용할 수 있는 방법을 제안하였고, 삽입형식을 선택할 경우에 서지 데이터용 KORMARC형식과 충돌을 일으키지 않도록 하기 위한 대응책을 마련하였다. 셋째, 소장데이터용 KORMARC형식을 이용함으로써 연속간행물 체크인파일을 별도로 유지하지 않고 체크인업무가 가능해지도록 하였다. 과거의 자동화된 시스템에서는 체크인을 위해 별도의 파일을 유지했었다. 그러나 소장데이터용 KORMARC형식에는 체크인에 필요한 정보가 다수 포함되어 있으므로, 몇가지 요소들을 추가적으로 기록하기 위한 표시기호 869와 식별기호를 형식에 포함시켜 연속간행물 체크인업무를 지원할 수 있게 하였다. 넷째, 결호목록을 작성할 수 잇도록 설계함으로써 한층 더 효율적인 연속간행물 관리업무를 가능하게 하였다. 기존의 다른 소장데이터용 MARC형식들은 상세한 결호목록을 출력시킬 수 없는 형태였으나 실무자들과의 면담 결과 상세한 결호목록에 관한 요구가 많았다. 이러한 요구에 부응하고자 소장데이터용 KORMARC형식에는 특정 결호사항을 기술할 수 있는 지시기호와 식별기호를 설정하였다.;The purpose of this paper is to facilitate holdings data processing in libraries by developing the KORMARC Format for Holdings Data and suggesting its applications. To achieve the desired goals, as the research methods, literature survey, interviewing, and case study are used in parallel. The meaning and definition of holdings data, background of MARC holdings development, and applications issues of this format are dealt with in the literature survey. In interviews with serials librarians, the problems of holdings data processing in their work are identified. And holdings data elements in the existing MARC formats, such as USMARC Format for Holdings Data, Canadian MARC Communication Format: Holdings Data, KORMARC Format for Bibliographic Data, OCLC-MARC, Utlas MARC, Chinese MARC, JAPAN MARC, and NACSIS formats are analysed for case studies. Then the KORMARC Format for Holdings Data is developed. The KORMARC Format for Holdings Data defines the codes and conventions(tags, indicators, subfield codes, and code values) that identify the data elements in KORMARC holdings reports for serial and non-serial items. The content of most of the data elements and their display may be determined by the applicable ANSI standard for holdings statements: Serial Holdings Statements (ANSI 239.44) or Holdings Statements for Non-Serial Items(ANSI/NISO 239.57). Other KORMARC Holdings content designators allow the potential of using the format to interface with such automated control systems as union catalog, serial check-in, and interlibrary loan systems. The format is developed on the basis of USMARC format for holdings data. And for the compatibility, the KORMARC format for bibliographic data is taken into account. The applications of this format is intended for the use of personnel involved in the creation and maintenance of KORMARC holdings records, as well as those involved in the design and maintenance of systems for the communication and the processing of holdings records. Practical applications which can implement the format successfully are as follows: 1. The KORMARC Format for Holdings Data can be used for access to detailed holdings information by preparing enhanced union catalog. 2. This format is designed to adopt either embedded format or separate format. 3. Serials check-in is implemented without maintaining separate file. 4. Serials control can be performed effectively by listing of missing issues.
