태극의 순환성을 바탕으로한 생명이미지 표현

Abstract

예술가는 자신이 살아가는 시대에 속하고 있으므로 동시대인들의 자연관이나, 사회관에 서로 영향을 주고 받으며, 자신이 속한 사회의 역사에 대해서도 영향을 받는다. 동양에서는 미의 원천이 자연에 내재되어 있어서 모든 대상의 외형적 미의 탐구보다는 내적인 미, 즉 자연성을 관조하는 것을 중요시하여 왔다. 예술은 모방이 아니고 창조하는 것이기 때문에 자연을 대상으로 직접 관찰하고 그대로 재현하기 보다는 그 안에서의 우주의 진리를, 즉 아름다움의 근본 원리를 체득했을때, 비로소 자유로운 창조활동을 할 수 있다고 본다. 본 논문에서는 동양의 철학중에, 한민족의 정신적 지주가 되고 있는 태극설(太極設)을 바탕으로 태극형태에 나타난 원과 파상선의 조형적 특성을 변형하여 생명의 순환적 이미지를 표현하는 데 의의가 있으며, 태극형태가 갖는 의미와 구조적 특성을 분석하여 생명 이미지를 표현하고자 하였다. 연구의 내용으로는 태극설에 관한 이론을 살펴 보고, 태극선(太極線)의 조형성을 바탕으로 작품을 제작하였다. 본 연구에서 태극설을 바탕으로 생명 이미지를 표현한 결과는 다음과 같다. 우선, 생명이 가지는 생태계 흐름안에서의 순환성은 조형상 순환운동을 하는 원의 형태를 변형함으로써 상징적으로 표현되었으며, 생명의 리듬을 표현하기 위해 부드러운 스티치를 반복 사용함으로써 태극의 원심성과 구심성이 동시에 공존하는 역동적 율동이 표현되었다. 그리고 태극의 시각적 특성을 완전히 채워지지 않은 곡선의 형태로 변형함으로써, 규칙과 불규칙, 팽창과 수축, 생성과 소멸이 상징적으로 표현되었다. 이와 같이 태극도형을 응용하여 작품을 제작하는 과정에서, 태극도형은 단순한 하나의 문양에서 그치지 않고, 우리 민족의 세계관을 지배하는 정신적 상징어가 되어 왔으며, 태극도형에서 변형되는 여러 형태들은 현대 조형 예술세계의 중요한 요소로 자리잡고 있음을 알 수 있었다.;As Artists live through their lifetime with others, they are influenced by the contemporary views on society and nature as well as the history of their society. In the East, the origin of beauty is believed to be inherent in nature. There fore, the inner beauty, or the meditation of nature, is considered to be more important than a mere observation of the external beauty. Since art is not a imitation but a creation, artists can freely produce creative works when they learn about the basic principle of aesthetic in nature rather than trying to observe and recreate the nature. In this thesis, I take the circle and the wavy line apparent on the Tae-geuk shape to represent the cyclic image of life, Also I try to show the image of life by analyzing the meaning and the structural form of the tae-geule shape. For the content of the research, I examined the theory on the tae-geuk -sul and produced works based on the tae-geuk line. And the result of this research on the representation of life's image is divided into three conclusions. First of all, the cyclic pattern of the ecosystem in which life exists in is symbolized by the change in the form of the circle. Secondly, dynamic rythm in which a honest mind and a discontented mind coexists was conveyed by repetition of soft stitches to show the rythm of life. Thirdly, the visual character of the tae-geuk was transformed into a structural form of curve where it'll never be completed, This is the symbolism of the regularity with the irregularity, expansion with the contraction, and creation with extinction. During the process of producing a piece of work by applying the figure of tae-geuk, I realized that the figure of tae-geuk was not just a mere symbolic figure but a spiritural symbol which prevails over the our nation's outlook on the world. And now we come to know the significance of the change on the figure of tae-geuk has in the world of modern art of shapes.
