조각보를 모티브로한 色과 面의 構成

Abstract

Only when the thinking, consciousness and pure moral nature which have been handed down from generation to generation are expressed as they are in the fine arts, the unique beauty and creativity which the race has appear regardless of an age or race. It is not true that the creativity reveals itself only in the a work of art created by the outstanding artists of an age, rather it reveals itself in industrial art objects which are produced with no intention to make a work of art. This kind of unintended creativity touches our heart with more appealing power. In the Chogakpo which is one of Yi Dynasty's industrial works produced using the needle, it is possible to find out the formativity resulted in an unintended will of manufacturing. Though Chogakpo is just one of everyday life utensils in Korea, it shows an excellent formativity which is over one century earlier than the works of color and facial 'configuration by Klee and than Mondrian's works of neo-creativism in terms of geometric color and ficial configuration and of abstract technique. I can find out new possibility in Chogakpo which has both traditional sense of beauty and modern formativity, and this possibility suggests a direction along which I have developed the world of my works. I tried to construct the world of my works in a positive and active manner by connecting the traditional spirit of unintended art (which is found in Chogakpo) and topographical elements with the specific formative nature of this modern age. In this study a general review was made on the concept and historical background of Chogakpo which serves as a motive for the creation of my work as well as on the formative feature expressed through the division of color and face. Then an analysis was conducted on the intention for the creation of the works as well as on the formative language which was expressed in the work by color and facial configuration. Through this kind of review, I tried to look into the nature of the unintended beauty expressed in Chogakpo. This kind of unintended beauty generally appears in the Korea's tranditional fine arts. Based on this unintended beauty, 1 construct the world of my works using two formative languages, i.e color and face. In order to effectively embody the result of my study, I used the traditional coloring method, based on this traditional coloring method, I continued to study and try the methods which enable me to introduce a variety of no modern materials Through comparison, analysis and review of my works created along this line, I established a footfold for my formative work.;어느 시대, 어느 民族의 미술이든지 그들의 생활 환경 속에서 연연히 흐르고 있는 思惟와 意識, 그리고 情實하고 꾸밈없는 心性이 造形的으로 表出되었을 때, 비로소 그 민족만이 지닌 本然의 아름다움과 獨創性을 보여줄 수 있다고 본다. 獨創性은 시대의 뛰어난 예술가들에 의해서 창조된 作爲的인 예술품에서만 보여지는 것은 아니다. 예술품이라야 한다는 自覺없이 만들어진 作爲性 없는 공예품에서도 찾아볼 수 있으며, 意圖하지 않는 독창성은 더욱 깊은 호소력으로 우리를 감동시키기도 한다. 李朝의 針線공예품의 하나인 조각보(도 1)에서도 이러한 脫技巧的인 제작 의도에서 오는 造形性을 살펴볼 수가 있다. 조각보는 생활 잡기에 불과했지만, 幾何學的인 색면 구성이라든가 抽象的인 기법에 있어, Klee^(1)의 색면구성 작품(도 2)이나 Mondrian^(2)의 新造形主義^(3)의 작품(도 3)들보다 1세기 이상 앞서, 그 탁월한 造形性을 보여주고 있다. 전통적인 美意識과 현대적인 造形性을 동시에 지니고 있는 조각보에서, 본인은 회화적 표현의 새로운 가능성을 발견할 수 있었으며, 그 가능성은 작품 전개상의 방향을 提示하여 주었다. 이에 본인이 조각보에서 취할 수 있었던 우리 전통의 脫技巧的인 예술 정신과 造形的인 요소들을 현대, 우리 세대가 갖는 조형상의 특수성과 함께 接木시켜 좀더 발전적인 자신의 작품세계를 構築해 보고자 하였다. 本 論文에서는 우선, 작품 제작의 모티브가 된 조각보의 槪念과 史的 배경, 色과 面의 분할이 갖는 造形的 특징에 대한 일반적 考察을 하였고, 그 다음으로는 제작상의 意圖와 함께, 色의 構成과 面의 構成으로 나누어 작품에 표현된 조형언어를 分析해 보았다. 이와같은 考察을 통하여, 조각보가 지니는-한국 전통미술에서 전반적으로 보여지기도 하는-脫技巧的인 '美'의 본질을 糾明해 보고자 하였으며, 이를 作業形成의 기초로 삼아 色과 面의 두 가지 造形言語로서 표현하게 되었음을 밝혔다. 그리고 이러한 硏究를 효과적으로 形象化 시키기 위하여 傳統的인 채색 방법을 선택하였으며, 이를 바탕으로 現代의 새롭고 다양한 材料들을 도입한 기법을 계속적으로 연구, 시도해 보았다. 이러한 작업을 통하여 얻어진 작품을 比較, 分折하고 되돌아 봄으로써 새로운 造形作業에의 발판으로 삼았다.
