서양전통패치워크문양을 응용한 복식디자인

Abstract

Today, modern dresses are being developed into the direction which pursue its functional beauty and individual formative beauty and, the importance of a dress which has high elegance and high additional value with artistic formation is newly being recognized. As one of those trends, the high class clothing introduced with embroidery, beads ornament and quilting etc. is being represented and in this study, the figure and the method of traditional patch-work was used to increase the additional value of clothing according to this tendency of modern fashion. The expressive method and technique of modern patch-work is being developed gradually with various formation, such as plain, relief and three-dimensional expression, and also they are applied with traditional figure modernized or are expressed in the subjective conception of creator. And also, there is unique method of which effect of material was increased by using new materials freely. The purpose of this study is to satisfy the individual expressive desire of moderns who are pursuing practicability and the beauty of simplicity with the application of this traditional figure and method of patch-work to design of dress for the expression of manual artistic, unique touch and geometrical formation and is to investigate the possibility of the direction of modern design containing traditional beauty in the future. The contents and the method of this study is that, as theoretical background, the definition and the history of patch-work were investigated through references and the characteristic of figure common to the representative traditional figure of patch-work and the sculpture figure of Korean traditional patch-work was studied by commparing and analyzing them. And also the references in relation to the ddress design introduced with patch-work method and modern dresses applied with traditional figure were collectedd and their formative characteristic was examined. On the basis of this theoretical background, total eight works which are applied modernly with the traditional figure of patch-work were produced. The summary of the results of this study is as follows. First, the geometrical, concrete and aesthetic factors of traditional patch-work figure corresponded with the formative beauty of modern dresses pursuing practicability and simple beauty. Second, the sewing method of patch-work takes long time and much effort because of its manual artistic method but it is suitable to the design of dresses having high additional value and artistic value. Third, modern image could be expressed by the attempt to express three-dimensional effect on the design of plain traditional figure. Fourth, Korean traditional ramie fabric has good dyeing property and is easy to sew and effective for the expression of patch-work figure and abundant color and it as the material which could express our tradition as it was the material having Korean beauty. Fiveth, using the patchwork technic, you can express harmony with easy to compose color. Sixth, It is possible to express the abstract as well as basic at altistic expression with patchwork I wish that the results of this study could be the new opportunity of development of pactch-work into the traditional aesthetic material of dress design having new value.;오늘날 현대복식은 기능미와 개성적인 조형미를 추구하는 방향으로 전개되고 있으며 예술적 조형성을 부여한 고품격·고부가가치의상의 중요성이 새로이 인식되고 있다. 그 일환으로 자수, 비즈장식, 퀄팅등의 수공예적 기법이 도입된 고급의상들이 발표되고 있으며 이러한 패션의 현대적인 경향에 맞추어 본 연구에서는 의상의 부가가치성을 높이기 위해 전통 패치워크문양 및 기법을 사용하였다. 현대패치워크의 표현방식과 기법은 점차 평면·부조·입체적표현등의 다양한 조형성을 띄면서 발전하고 있으며 패치워크의 전통문양을 현대화하여 응용하기도 하며 작가의 주관적인 구상으로 표현하기도 한다. 또한 새로운 재료들을 자유롭게 사용함으로써 재질적인 효과를 증대시킨 독자적인 방법도 나타나고 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 이러한 패치워크의 전통문양 및 기법을 복식디자인에 응용하여 수공예적인 독특한 질감과 기하학적 조형성을 표현해 냄으로써 실용성과 간결미를 추구하는 현대인의 개성적 표현 욕구를 만족시키고, 앞으로의 복식디자인에 있어 전통적인 미를 내재한 현대적인 디자인방향의 가능성을 모색하는데 있다. 본 연구의 내용및 방법을 이론적 배경으로써 패치워크의 정의와 역사를 문헌을 통해 고찰하고, 패치워크의 대표적인 전통문양을 분석하여 문양의 특성을 연구하였다. 또한 패치워크의 기법이 도입된 복식디자인을 현대복식에 관련하여 참고작품을 표집하고 그 조형적 특성을 살펴보았다. 이러한 이론적 배경을 토대로 패치워크 전통문양을 현대적으로 응용한 작품을 총8점 제작하였다. 본 연구의 결과를 종합해 보면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 패치워크전통문양의 기하학적이고 추상적인 미적특성들은 실용성과 간결미를 추구하는 현대복직의 조형미와 잘 부합되었다. 둘째, 패치워크는 수공예적이며, 고부가가치를 지닌 예술성 있는 복식디자인에 적합한 기법임이 확인되었다. 셋째, 평면적인 전통문양의 디자인 위에 입체적인 질감효과를 시도해 봄으로써 좀더 현대적인 이미지로 표현할 수 있었다. 넷째, 우리나라 고유의 모시는 염색성이 좋고 봉제가 용이하여 패치워크의 문양과 풍부한 색감을 표현하기에 효과적이며 전통성을 표현할 수 있는 복식디자인의 소재였다. 다섯째, 패치워크 기법은 현대감각에 적합한 색채구성이 자유로우므로 색채의 조화를 표현하기 좋은 방법이다. 여섯째, 패치워크는 기본적인 기하학적 추상형태외에 회화적, 사실적인 구상형태를 표현할수 있는 가능성이 있다. 이상의 결과로 패치워크가 고부가가치를 지닌 복식디자인의 전통적인 미학적 소재로서 새로운 가치를 지니고 발전할 수 있는 계기가 되었으면 한다.
