Abstract

20세기의 가장 중요한 작곡기법이라 할 수 있는 12음 음악기법은 Arnold Schoenberg (1874-1951)에 의해 논리적이고 체계적인 기법으로 완성되었으며, 그의 제자인 Anton Webern (1883-1945)과 Alban Berg (1885-1935)에 의하여 계승·발전되었다. "Operation" for Clarinet and Piano.(1992)는 이같은 12음 음악기법에 기초한 작품으로 제1악장은 Prime(원형), Inversion(전회형), Retrograde(역행형), Retrograde-inversion(역전회형)의 형태로 음열을 이도시켜 음이나 음정을 변화시킬 뿐만 아니라, 조합집합(combinatorial set), 추출집합(derived set), 승법 변형(multiplicative transformation)등의 확장된 기법들을 사용하였다. 이러한 확장된 12음 음악기법의 사용은, 서열된 12음열을 새로운 방법으로 재배열함으로써 다양한 음정관계를 갖는 새로운 집합의 형성을 가능하게 한다. 또 제2악장은 비교적 자유로운 전개를 보이고 있으나, 집합내에서 이루어지는 분절(segment)-특히, trichord(3음)-간의 긴밀한 상호관계를 통해 조성음악과는 달리, 서로 다른 12음의 상호관계에 의존하는 12음 음악기법의 특성을 나타내주고 있다.;Pioneered by, Arnold Schoenberg(1874-1951) and further developed by Anton Webern and Alban Berg, the Twelve-tone music technique is probably the most important compositional method to bo developed in the twentieth century. As implicit in Schoenberg's own definition, "Twelve-tone composition method relying only on a reciprocal relation", an equal application of twelve semitones destroys a tonal. "Operation" for Clarinet and Piano(1992) is work essentially based on the twelve-tone music technique, but more attention should be drawn to its practicality. Prime, Inversion, Retrograde, and Retrograde-inversion are familiar examples of modification methods of tone. "Operation" for Clarinet and piano (1992)is distinctive in that it also employs expansion methods such as combinatorial set, derived set, and multiplicative transformation. Notable is that the application of the expansion methods makes it possible to form a new set holding a verified tone relationship by rearranging the ordered twelve-tone. contrary to tonal music, the reciprocal close-relationship between the segments in a set-especially trichord-illustrates the peculiarity of the twelve tone: each of the twelve-tones in the semitone scale is somehow associated with one another.
