2중직에 있어서 부조에 관한 연구

Abstract

Modern fiber arts has been developed since the production of Tapestrys by William Morris in 1870's, and based on a pure creation, it has been acknowledged since the Bauhaus period. Since that time, the artists have tried to seek aesthetic value of the work, and people have become greatly concerned about the visual changes by the quality senses as a creation elements. Thanks to the diversifications in techniques of material, two dimensional style of expression got developed into the relief or three dimensional form. As far as the double weaves are concerned in the field of fiber arts, many artists like Anni Albers, Richard Landis, Kay Sekimachi and Warren Seeling, etc made a great contribution as its precursors. We can see that in terms of shape, function and technique, double weaves has more diversified structural characteristics than the simple weaves. Accordingly in this paper, I tried to figure out the characteristics of double weaves as fiber arts, through understanding the concept of double weaves, relief, and training the techniques of double weaves including the works of the artists who used these techniques. As for the production of works, for the purpose of bringing a human being's internal world into an image, I tried to express a deep sense of space, by using natural material like Cysal hemp and very soft materials like woolen yarn with carded wool. And also for the purpose of enhancing visual and spacial effects, among the several techniques of double weaves, tubular method and slit method were selected. The relief form which was expressed by the techniques mentioned above can even further enhance the effect of the works according to the application method of slit techniques, and harmonized with the space, as well as it gives us the formative characteristics. Accordingly, if we continue our research into the materials and forms with continous studies and creative experiments, there will be an indefinite possibility to the formative and creative relief forms.;현대 섬유 예술은 1870년대 영국의 월리암 모리스(William Morris)에 의해 제작된 타피스트리에서 부터 시작되었다 할 수 있으며, 바우하우스(Bauhaus)시대부터 인정받기 시작하였다. 그 후 작품의 미적 가치에 대한 관심의 증대로 인하여 조형요소로서 질감에 의한 시각적 변화에 관심을 보였으며, 또한 재료와 기법이 다양화되어 2차원적 표현양식에서부터 부조와 입체의 3차원적인 형태로 까지 발전하게 되었다. 여러 다양한 기법 중 2중직은 애니 알버스(Anni Albers), 리챠드 랜디스(Richard Landis), 가이 세끼마찌(Kay Sekimachi), 와렌 실릭 (warren seeling) 등 많은 작가들이 선구자적인 역할을 하였다. 2중직은 구조적 특성이 한 겹의 직물보다 형태, 기능, 기법 등에서 매우 다양하게 표현할 수 있는 특징이 있다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 2중직의 개념과 부조의 개념을 파악하고 나아가 2중직의 기법과 그것을 사용한 작가들의 작품을 통하여 섬유예술로서 2중직의 특성을 알아보려 하였다. 실제 작품 제작에 있어서는 인간의 내면세계를 이미지화시키기 위해 자연적 소재인 사이잘삼, 부드러운 모사와 밤모사를 사용하여 깊은 공간감을 나타내고자 하였다. 그리고 시각적 공간적인 효과를 강하게 나타내고자 2중직 기법중의 원통형(Tubular)과 슬릿(slit) 기법을 선택하였다. 위의 기법에 의해 표현되는 부조 형태는 슬릿 기법으로 만들어지는 활용 방법에 따라 작품의 공간 효과를 한층 더 높여주며 이러한 공간성은 평면과 조화를 이루면서 작품의 조형성을 높여주고 있다. 그러므로 끊임없는 연구와 창조적인 실험을 바탕으로 재료, 형태, 기법을 연구한다면 조형성 있는 독창적인 부조형태는 무한한 가능성을 나타낼 수 있을 것이다.
