자연의 형상화를 시도한 섬유예술작품

Abstract

The arts created by human beings are not only merely. derived from immitation of nature but also sought the possibility of self-expression through nature. Human beings are born as part of nature and the inspiration given by nature to human beings becomes the origin of invaluable artistic life. Therefore, artists have to indulge in the ultimate truth of naturel create an inner form, understand the nature and follow its law. The life filled with profound interests in nature is accepted with the artistic feeling of individual which is led to new recreativity. This is the spiritual process of expressing the world of man's soul toward nature, and the process leads to from other artistic world. Among the numerous artistic works which showed pure volition of construction to express free creative subjectivity of spirit through nature, the fiber art works formed image from nature using fabrics have been selected as object of this study. The process of artistic work expressing the concrete object existing in nature with fabrics rather than logical deploment of limited theory has been taken as subject of this study, analyzing the essential artistic psychology of human beings in a process to express nature into art, correlation of art with nature, and the process of image formation of nature to artistic works. Herein, the analysis of Magdalena Abakanowicz's works that attempted image formation of nature and her artistic experiences, who is one of the outstanding Polish-born artists in the field of fiber arts, has been taken as an example of this thesis. Through above mentioned process, analysis on a few pieces of works which express the nature using fibers was made in relation with the motive of production, the process of creation on how the materials in nature have been converted into artistic works, the materials used and their characteristics and the nature of expression of works & the background of production. In addition, publications on nature and art, studies of literatures on the artists and their works selected as examples of this study, and 7 pieces of fiber works produced in an attempt to form an image from nature have been chosen as scope of this study. Through above process where aesthetic objects and experiences were sublimated within my spiritual world and reproduced into fiber art, the following few problems and means of solution could be found. Firstly, the production of fiber works should be aimed to express the image of pure nature by animation of lively image and the various changes rather than nature's appearance. Secondly in realizing the intention of construction, studios on sketch, color, and the original nature of material and its harmony should actively be made. Thirdly, in producing the fiber works should be aimed to & tools and material, and reformation of selection are much required, which are the major subjects to be solved in the future. Also, as immediate subject for fiber artists and those who are engaged in the fiber business, a diverse development and study on fiber demanded. In methodological viewpoint, a continued research and experimental efforts on the difficult problems should be rather positively exerted. However, the most important matter to be considered, first of all, is the mental attitude of fiber artists who can complete production of work as we intend only through keen observation of nature and efforts with abundant practice and production of works investing considerable time, as well as the establishment of sound aesthetic view on arts.;인간이 창조하는 예술은 단순히 자연의 모방을 위주로 하는 것이 아니라, 자연을 통하여 자기표현의 가능성을 찾는 것이다. 인간은 자연에서 태어난 일부분이며 자연이 인간에 주는 감동은 귀한 예술적 생명의 모체가 된다. 예술가는 모름지기 자연의 궁극적인 진리로 파고 들어가 내적인 형태를 창조하고, 자연을 이해하며, 자연법칙에 따라야 한다. 자연에 대한 깊은 관심으로 채워진 삶은 개인의 예술적인 감각과 함께 수용되어 새로운 재창조로 이어진다. 이것은 자연에 대한 인간의 영혼의 세계를 표현하는 정신적인 과정이다. 이러한 과정은 또 다른 예술세계를 이룩하게도 한다. 본 논문에서는 자연을 통한 정신의 자유로운 창조적 주관을 표현하려는 순수한 조형의지를 나타낸 많은 예술작품 중에서, 특별히 섬유로서 자연을 형상화시킨 섬유예술작품을 연구의 대상으로 삼았다. 한정된 이론의 논리적 전개라기보다는, 자연 속에 존재하는 구체적인 대상물을 섬유로 표현하는 예술작업의 과정을 연구의 과제로 삼고, 자연과 예술의 상관관계, 자연을 예술로 표현하는 과정에서 인간의 근원적인 예술심리를 분석하여, 자연이 예술작품으로 이어지는 형상화 과정을 연구하였다. 여기에 폴랜드 태생으로 섬유예술계의 거장 중의 한 사람인 Magdalena Abakanowicz의 예술적 체험과 자연의 형상화를 시도한 작품들에 대한 분석을 본 논제의 한 예로 택하였다. 위의 과정을 통하여, 자연을 소재로 하여 섬유로 표현한 몇 점의 작품들에 대해서 그 제작 동기, 어떻게 자연의 소재를 예술작품으로 변용시켰는가라는 창조과정, 사용된 재료와 그 특성, 작품 표현의 성격 및 제작 배경 등에 대해서 분석하였다. 이에 덧붙여 자연과 예술에 대한 서적, 예로 선택한 작가와 작품들에 대한 문헌연구 및 자연을 형상화시키고자 하는 의도로 제작을 시도한 7점의 섬유작품을 연구의 범위로 삼았다. 본 연구에서는, 위의 과정을 통하여 우리는 미적 대상과 미적 체험이 자신의 정신세계 속에서 승화되고, 섬유작품으로 재생되는 과정에서, 다음의 몇 가지 문제점들과, 해결방안을 발견할 수 있었다. 첫째, 섬유작품 제작은 자연의 외면보다는 생명적 이미지의 역동성과, 다양한 변화를 중심으로 순수한 자연 이미지를 표현하고자 노력하여야 한다. 둘째, 조형의지를 실현함에 있어서, 밑그림, 색채, 질감의 근원적 성질과 조화에 대한 연구가 활발하게 이루어져야 한다. 세째, 섬유작품 제작에 있어 기구와, 재료의 다양성, 선택의 혁신성이 많이 요구되는 점 등이 앞으로 해결되어야 할 과제이다. 또한 섬유작가 및 섬유 계 종사자들의 당면과제로 섬유재료의 다양한 개발과 연구가 요망된다. 방법론적인 면에서도 어려운 문제들에 대한 끊임없는 탐구와, 실험적 시도가 적극적으로 이루어져야 한다고 본다. 그러나 무엇보다도 중요한 과제로 사료되는 점은, 조형의지를 실현하는 섬유작가들의 정신적 태도로서, 예술에 대한 건전한 미학적사고의 정립과 함께 자연을 보는 예리한 관찰, 많은 시간을 투자한 다습다작의 노력만이, 의도하는 작품제작의 완성을 가져다 줄 수 있다고 본다.
