한국도시주부의 정신적 갈등의 사회적 요인에 관한 연구

Abstract

본 논문의 목적은 신경정신과를 찾는 신경증적 증세를 가진 주부들의 사례연구를 통하여 한국도시주부의 정신적 갈등의 사회적 요인을 밝힘으로써 현대 한국여성의 문제를 올바르게 파악하고 해결점을 찾도록 기여하려는 것이다. 그와 같은 목적을 위하여 본 연구자는 신경정신과를 찾는 도시주부들 중 신경증의 진단명을 가진 주부를 대상으로 하여 1984년 8월 31일부터 1985년 2월 28일까지 6개월동안 28명의 주부들을 심층면접하였다. 그 내용을 요약해 보면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 결혼을 통해 가부장적 가족에 편입되는 도시주부들은 부부관계, 자녀와의 관계, 고부관계를 포함하는 가족형태 및 구조로 인해 갈등적 상황에 처하게 된다. 둘째, 도시주부들은 혼전 성관계, 결혼 후의 성적 욕구불만, 남편의 외도 등의, 성(性)의 문제로 인해 갈등을 안고 있다. 셋째, 고등교육을 받은 주부일수록 자아실현의 욕구를 강하게 가지는 경향이 현저한데 반하여 기혼여성의 사회·경제활동에의 참여가 용이치 않으므로 갈등을 느낀다. 위와 같은 경험적 사실을 통해 한국 도시주부의 갈등의 사회적 요인을 끌어내면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 산업화로 인한 가정과 일터의 분리는 여성들의 교육수준이 높아졌음에도 불구하고 여성들을 가정에만 고립시킴으로써 주부들의 정신적 갈등을 유발시키고 있다. 둘째, 여성의 주 영역이 가정이라는 것을 강조하는 현모양처 이데올로기는 주부들에게 전통적인 여성적 역할 수행을 강요함으로써 갈등을 유발시킬 뿐 아니라 점점 더 어렵고 불분명한 현모양처됨의 조건은 주부들에게 현실적인 성취감을 갖기 힘들게 한다. 셋째, 일의 성격상 연속적·반복적이며, 한편 평가면에서 노력과 수고에 비해 실제적 보상이 보장되어 있지 않은 가사노동은 한국도시주부의 갈등의 한 원인이 되고 있다. 그러므로 주부의 정신적 갈등에 대한 문제해결에 있어서 이제까지 강조되어 왔던 개인적·심리적 요인과 함께 이상의 세가지 사회적 요인이 고려되지 않으면 안된다. 즉 한국 도시주부의 갈등의 문제를 해결하기 위해서는 사회적 성취기회의 개방, 현모양처 이데올로기의 타파, 가족구조의 다양화, 가사노동의 분담 그리고 평등주의에 근거한 사회화 등의 사회적 차원의 해결방안이 마련되어야 한다.;The purpose of this study os to understand the social factors behind emotional conflicts experienced by Korean urban housewives who seek psychiatric treatment and to come to some suggestions for the solutions. For the purpose, we carried out in-depth interviews with 28 housewives who make visits to psychiatric clinics and diagnosed as neurosis, from Aug. 31, 1984 to Feb. 28, 1985. The emotional conflict can be summarized as : First, through the marriage into patriarchal family, the urban housewives studied are in conflict situation resulting from complicated human relationship involving mothers-in-laws, husband, and children. Second, the urban housewives have conflicts caused by problems of sexuality such as premarital sexual relationship, sexual frustration after marriage, and infidelity of the husband. Third, the conflict situation is related to the lack of opportunities for economic activity. The higher the educational attainment of a housewife, the stronger is the desire to achieve self realization. Based on such empirical findings, one can draw the following social factors of their conflicts. First, through the educational level of women in general is enhanced, the separation between home and workplace brought by industrialization isolates women at home thus contributes to conflict situations. Second, the ideology of 'Wise mother and good wife' (Hyun-mo-yang-chuh) forces women to carry out traditional sex role. This not only cause conflict in itself but also the qualifications of such an ideal type become more difficult and unclear, thus the actual achievement of it becomes harder. Third, the unending, repetitious, economically unrewarding nature of domestic labour and yet being under the sole responsibility of the housewives contributes to the emotional conflict. Therefore in trying to solve the problems of the emotional conflicts of housewives, the above mentioned social factors ought to be taken into consideration along with individual, and psychological factors which have been emphasized so far. In other words, solutions to the problems lie in changes in social dimensions at large such as opening employment for married women, superceding Hyun-mo-yang-chuh ideology, diversification of family, sharing or socialization of domestic labour based on egalitarian principle. On the other hand, short-term programs such as community centers for house-wives organized by specialists in the field of clinical psychology, social work, sociology, law, and Women's Studies should be continuously examined as a possibel alternative treatment program.
