1960년대의 현대무용의 흐름에 관한 연구

Abstract

本 論文은 1960年代 初期 美國에서 일어난 전위무용운동의 주역인 Judson Group의 形成過程과 理論的 배경 및 그들의 업적에 관해 다루었다. 이들은 現代舞踊에까지 이르는 다양한 舞踊思潮의 매너리즘에 반발, 표현의 多樣性 및 藝術思潮의 새로운 쟝르를 개발하여 舞踊史 뿐 아니라 전체 藝術史에 큰 업적을 이룩했다. 때문에 이들에 대한 國內의 소개가 미비한 점을 감안, 포괄적으로 각 構成員의 藝術觀과 作品世界 뿐 아니라 他藝術分野와의 연관성까지 考慮하여 Judson Group의 다양한 양상들을 살펴보았다. 序論에서는 人間의 동작이 動物들의 움직임과 어떻게 다르고 어떻게 현대무용과 연결되는지를 이끌어내어 보았다. II章에서는 Judson Group이 參與한 後期現代舞踊(Post Modern Dance)에 관련된 여러 藝術分野, 특히 미술의 Pop Art, Happening, 음악에서의 John Cage와 연극의 Living Theatre를 중심으로 그들의 이론적 배경들을 다루어 보았다. III章에서는 後期現代舞踊에까지 이르는 舞踊史를 간략하게 다루었다. Isadora Duncan에서 Merce Cunningham에 이르는 현대무용이 후기현대무용에 끼친 影響과 또한 영향 받은 人物들을 통해 Judson Group이 極腹하려는 점은 무엇인지에 대한 史的 考察이 註가 된다. IV章에서는 Judson Group의 形成過程과 基本理念, 그 特徵에 關해 다루었다. 그들이 이전의 舞踊運動과 어떠한 연관성을 갖고 어떠한 차이점을 지니며, 그들의 업적은 무엇인지에 대한 고찰이 重點的으로 다루어졌다. 그리고 Judson Group을 이끈 중심인물들인 Simone Forti Deborah Hay, Yvonne Rainer, David Gordon, Trisha Brown의 經歷과 藝術觀, 作品世界에 대해 考察하였고, 그 外의 인물들에 대한 간략한 소개가 추가되었다. 結論 部分에서는 Judson Group이 끼친 영향과 문제점에 대해 살펴보았다. 그들의 活動은 지금까지 繼續되지만 Judson Group으로 출발할 때의 기본이념과 크게 變化되지 않았다는 意味에서 그들의 創造的 作業이 수용될 수 있도록 비판적 시각으로 다루어 보았다. 이와 같이 Judson Group의 後期現代舞踊을 硏究함으로써 世界的 흐름속에 韓國의 舞踊系를 接脈시켜 우리 무용계의 創作活動에 보탬이 되었으면 한다.;In this thesis, the writer deals with the process of formation, theoretical background and achievements of Judson Group that takes the starring role for the movement of avante-garde dance which rose in America in the early part of 1960's. Reacting against the mannerism of diverse trends of dance up to modern dance, they produced a great achievement not only in the history of dance but also in the history of entire art by developing expressional variety and new Genre of art. However, they are not sufficiently introduced to this country. In view of this, the diverse images of Judson Group is looked into in this study with a general consideration of not only the view of art and works of each member of the Group but also of relation with other fields of art. In the preface, how human motion is different from that of animals and how human motion is connected with modern dance are selected to be discussed. In Chapter Ⅱ, their the oretical background is discussed centering around various fields of art, especially pop art and happening in fine art , John Cage i n music and living theater in drama which are related with post modern dance in which Judson Group takes a part. In Chapter Ⅲ, dance history is briefly discussed up to post modern dance. The main theme of the discussion i s what Judson Glcoup trys to overcome through influence that was rendered to post modern dance by modern dance from Isadora Duncan t o Merce Cunningham and through persons who have been subjected to such influence. In Chapter Ⅳ the process of the formation of Judson Croup, its basic ideology and its characteristics are discussed. The main themes of t h e discussion are: What relation they have with former movements of dance and how they are different and what are their achievements. Also, the careers, views of art and works of the leaders of Judson Group such as Simone Forti, Deborah Hay, Yvonne Rainer, David Gordon and Trisha Brown are discussed. Further, abrief introduction of other members is added. In the conclusion, influence and problems rendered and raised by Judson Group are looked into . The overall discussion is made with a critical vision so that their creative works can be accepted i n a sense that their basic ideology is not remarkably varied with that they had when they started in the name of Judson Group, although their activiities are still on the way now. The writer wishes that Korean dance circle may be joined with wordly trend by studying the post modern dance of Judson Group t o render an aid to the creative activity of Korean dance circle.
