히피 패션의 리바이벌에 관한 연구

Abstract

본 연구는 등장 시기별 히피 패션 의 특징, 상호 연계성과 차이점을 고찰하고 앞으로 리바이벌될 히피 패션의 전개 방향을 예측하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 복식사 관련 서적, 연구논문, 국내 외 패션 정보 사이트와 화보, 신문·잡지 등을 참조하여 1960년대와 1990년대, 2000년대의 히피 패션의 경향을 분석하였다. 1960년대에 사랑과 평화를 외치며 기존의 체제에 저항하고 물질주의적인 것을 거부했던 히피들은 그들의 이상과 삶의 태도를 표현하는 방법중의 하나로 의복을 이용하였다. 그들은 물질주의로부터 일탈하여 정신적인 것을 추구하는 의미로 환각적인 사이키델릭 의복, 사랑과 평화의 상징인 꽃과 꽃무늬, 수공예와 에스닉한 요소들을 이용하였고 기존 체제에 대한 저항의 의미로 남성들도 머리를 기르고 남녀 모두 노동자의 의복이었던 진을 입었으며 변형된 군복이나 남녀가 구분이 되지 않는 유니섹스 의복을 착용하였다. 이렇게 히피들의 의복은 저항과 일탈의 의미로 기존의 획일적 패션을 거부하는 안티패션의 성향을 띄었으나, 이들의 독특한 스타일은 곧 상향전파 되어 하나의 큰 패션이 되었다. 히피 패션은 히피들이 큰 세력을 형성하던 그 시기뿐 아니라 90년대 이후 지속적으로 리바이벌되는 현상을 보이는데, 특히 1993년과 1999년, 2002년을 전후한 시기에 중요한 패션 테마로 부상한다. 90년대에 리바이벌되는 히피 패션은 사회·정치적 불안과 경제 침체, 환경에 대한 관심, 세기말적 현상 등을 바탕으로 재등장하였는데, 날씬한 실루엣으로 여성스럽게 표현되며 고급화된 소재를 많이 사용하였다. 꽃무늬, 레이어링은 빼놓을 수 없는 요소였으며 비즈, 프린지 등과 같은 히피의 특징적인 장식들이 많이 사용되었다. 이러한 것들을 통해 히피의 특징적인 요소 한가지만으로도 히피 스타일을 표현할 수 있는 특징을 지닌다. 90년대 초반의 히피 패션은 비교적 과거의 히피 패션을 충실히 반영하며, 그 당시 유행하던 그런지의 영향을 어느 정도 받은 것으로 보여진다. 99년에 리바이벌 된 히피 패션은 70년대 글램록 스타일과 결합하면서 럭셔리하고 섹시한 히피 스타일을 연출한다. 2000년대에 히피 패션이 리바이벌되는 배경으로 사회·정치적 불안과 보보스의 부상을 들 수 있는데, 히피 패션은 로맨틱 무드를 바탕으로 풍성하고 자연스러운 실루엣과 함께 고급스럽지만 절제되어 표현된다. 플라워 프린트나 프린지와 같은 히피의 특징적인 요소는 역시 중요하며, 수공예적 디테일에서 나오는 럭셔리 감성이 눈에 띄는 액세서리의 화려한 사용을 대체한다. 그러나 특정 아이템으로 히피를 표현하기보다는 여러 요소들이 뒤섞이며 나타나는 분위기로 히피를 표현하는 경향이 있으며 그 표현방식이 예전보다 한층 부드럽고 개성적이다. 리바이벌 되는 히피 패션은 사회 정치적 불안정이나 경기침체 등과 같이 과거 히피들의 등장 시점과 비슷한 배경을 가지나, 히피들의 사상적인 면은 빠지고 스타일만 차용하는 경향이 있다. 표현양식은 과거 히피 패션의 완전한 재현이라기보다는 리바이벌 되는 시점에 어울리는 양식으로 재해석되며, 과거의 히피 스타일과 달리 여성스럽고 고급스럽게 정제된 스타일로 표현된다는 특징을 가진다. 리바이벌 된 히피 패션의 수명은 그다지 길지 않으나 현대인의 안정을 바라는 욕구, 자연적이고 정신적인 것을 추구하는 욕구는 큰 테마로서든 작은 디테일로서든 지속적으로 히피 스타일을 응용할 것으로 예상된다. ; This is a study which aims at forecasting the development of the revivable Hippie fashion in the future with an examination on the differences, features, linkings among those of in the past. The forecast of the Hippie fashion in the 1960 s, 1990 s and 2000 s is analyzed herein referring related books, treatises, both overseas and domestic fashion internet sites and pictorial news, and all the possible papers and magazines. Hippies in the 1960 s who cried for peace and love, resisted the existing system, and rejected materialism used clothes as one way to express their ideal and life style. They used fantastic psychedelic garments, flowers and floral patterns as a symbol of peace, handcrafts and ethnic elements in the means of expression to deviate from materialism and to pursue spiritualism while wearing unisex clothes or transformed military uniforms, labor s work clothes for both female and male, jeans, with long hair in the means of resistance against the existing system. Like this, hippies clothes were shown anti-fashion to refuse the standard fashion as a means of resistance and deviation. Their typical style soon spread out and became one of the biggest fashion styles of the time. Hippies fashion not only formed a wide power in its time but has also been constantly revived since the 90 s. It especially came up as an important fashion theme in about 1993, 1999 and 2002. The revived hippie fashion in 90 s appeared based on social and political instability, economy depression, interests in environment, the turn of century phenomenon; was presented femininely with slim silhouettes and used superior quality material. Floral pattern and layering were essential elements and Hippies peculiar ornaments like beads, fringe were also used a lot. Each one of those had its distinctive feature to show hippie styles. The hippie fashion of the early 90 s was comparatively close to that of past, somewhat influenced by Grunge which was popular in those days. Another revived hippie fashion in 99 presented luxurious and sexy hippie styles conjoined with the Glam Rock style of the 70 s. We can mention social & political instability and outstanding Bobos as the background of the revived hippie fashion in the 2000 s. The hippie fashion was expressed temperate high quality with bulky & natural silhouette based on romantic mood. The peculiar elements of hippie like floral print or fringe was definitely important and the luxurious emotion coming out of handcrafted details was replaced by the use of good-looking accessories. However, rather than to express by a specific item, there was a tendency to express hippies by the mood with every other mixed elements. This way of expression was softer and more characteristic than before. The revived hippie fashion has a similar background that appeared with the social & political instability and economy depression in the past but it tends not to include ideology and brings style only. Presentation mode of the revived hippie fashion is not a complete reappearance. It is construed a mode that fits the time of revival. It has features that are presented with a femininely, luxuriously refined style. The revived hippie fashion does not last long enough, however, it is presumed that the moderns desire to pursue something natural and spiritual for stability would apply constantly hippie style no matter theme is big or small.
